Background: Her family history, attractive but not beautiful looks and her smooth movements made Xi Chi a natural at being a high-society courtesan. Her green eyes were her special draw and helped her gain information or eliminate marks during her adventures. She always wears at least one piece of red as a reminder to herself of her violent nature. Xi Chi left the big city after her politically-connected father informed her the local authorities were investigating her for a murder that she actually had committed. Until that storm died away, it was best for her to explore the world and gain some skills.
So meeting an elf who introduces her to an animate tree was not what Xi Chi was expecting but, like she had done many other times, she rolled with it. She accepts the acorn and bows deeply before moving to the mouth of the cave where the first wave of Twig Blights moved forward.
Wave 1
Initiative Xi nat 20+4=4
Being alert from Treant's warning and with the Blights 60' away, Xi uses her short bow (attack 12) but misses
The two Blights move forward, now 40'
Xi tries the short bow again (attack 21, damage 8) this time succeeding in killing one
One Blight moves forward, now 20'
Xi uses the bow again (attack 9) but misses
The Blight closes the distance and swipes at her (attack 4) but misses badly
Xi swings her short sword (attack 21, damage 10) killing it.
Wave 2
Initiative Xi 17, TB 15
Again, Xi sees the bushes transform into threats so she resumes with her bow (attack 11) but misses. That's three out of four misses with the bow. Drat.

Apparently the short bow heard or felt Xi's frustration and blows away one of the TBs (nat 20+6, damage 14)
The remaining TB moves to 20"
Xi keeps practicing with the short bow on live targets (attack 9) never a good plan
The TB closes and successfully attacks (15, damage 3)
Xi pulls out the short sword but misses (attack 10) but catches it cleanly with her dagger (attack 15, damage 7) to kill it

She may miss with the bow alot but she is getting alot of attempts. She sees the third wave approach and she shoots with her bow (attack 18, damage 5) killing one

Xi shoots (attack 17, damage 9) killing the second one. Maybe she is learning to use this bow.
She searches the area and discovers the pile of coins.
Xi enters the cave and is startled by the shrieker's call. She realizes that she has used 8 of her 20 arrows so strides up to the fungus and hacks it apart.
Wave 2
Initiative Xi 14, Bullywugs 15
The cave brings everyone closer, so the Bullywugs start only 40' away and both throw spears at Xi (attack 13, 19) with one hitting (damage 4)
Xi pops the acorn into her mouth (+5hp) then attacks with her short bow (attack 23, damage 5)
The Bullys continue and attack with their teeth (12, 16) with one hitting (damage 3) before stooping to pick up their spears
Xi uses her short sword against the one she already hit (attack 20, damage 7) killing it then attacks the other with her dagger twice (attack 15, 15) (damage 5, 6) killing it
Xi wasn't pleased with being hit twice but feels the experience has made her tougher and wiser (advance to level 2). She stacks the Bully's 4 spears to possibly retrieve when she leaves and quickly realizes there is a crazy bear nearby.
Initiative Xi 14, Bear 13
Xi shoots her bow (attack 12, damage 9) with success
The bear quickly closes to attack her with mouth and claw (7, 14) but misses
Xi uses her short sword (attack 17, damage 9) and dagger twice (attack 11, 12) (damage 7, 5) Bear is very bloody (down to 4 hp) but still dangerous
Bear mauls her (attack 7, 17) (damage 8) giving her a solid blow
Xi resumes her desperate attack with short sword (attack 15, damage 8) to kill the bear.
Xi rests for a while, enough time until she feels whole again before resuming her trek.

The two beasts fly down to attack Xi (attack 19, 14) with one successful (damage 5 and attached)
Xi successfully kills the one that landed on her (attack 22, damage 8) and kills the second with her dagger (attack 15, damage 7)

The next wave continues the aerial assault (attack 6, 17) with another one landing on Xi (damage 5)
Xi responds by chopping off the head of the one that landed on her (attack nat 20+6, damage 14) before dispatching the other with her dagger (attack 23, damage 7)
When Xi moves to close to it, the Ooze attacks (14) as a melee weapon but misses
Xi attacks it with a short sword (attack 10, damage 7) then dagger twice (9, 10) (damage 8, 5) leaving the ooze with only 2hp
Weakened, the ooze misses (4) and Xi kills it with her short sword (attack 23, damage 8)

Knowing what to look for, Xi targets the stirges with her short bow (attack 14, damage 10) killing one
The last stirge drones in but misses (attack 6)
She chops it down with her short sword (attack 15, damage 8).

Breathing a sigh of relief, she kills the fungus that is poisoning the stream.

She reports her results to Treant, who looks her up and down slowly before saying, "You need a bath," to which she replies, "Definitely." She accepts the Staff of Flowers and again takes the acorn and bows deeply before departing. She has the money now to enjoy a tavern with a bath and she plans to do just that.
Having heard Erybend is the largest settlement around, Xi goes there. She spends they extra coin for a wealthy room (2gp) and pays even more to have a wealthy meal with a pitcher of wine brought to her room (1gp). It wasn't all for pampering, she didn't want many people to see her before she was properly dressed. So the next day, after a good wash and use of her various outfits, she sashayed into the common room and inquired about where to buy and sell gear. She buys a hand crossbow with bolts and a scimitar (100gp) and trades in the short bow (12gp10sp). She also sells the staff of flowers (125gp). She buys a disguise kit and three healing potion (too many close calls on that last adventure). She turns down several invitations for drinks and again requests the same meal and drink be brought to her room (another 3gp). She starts making plans for resuming her adventure the next day.
A slave to a goblin tribe for many years, his skills with animals - domesticated and wild - kept him alive until he escaped. However, no "civilized" people will accept him, so he wanders from town to town with his faithful mastiff, Adie, and periodic friendship with local animals.
Dealu is surprised that someone approached him with an offer of employment to do something good. He was used to people approaching him with weapons unsheathed and bile dripping from their words. Of course he said yes, particularly since the task involved helping the forest, a living if amorphous being that he greatly respected and relied upon. Dealu accepts with gratitude the acorn, not only because of its healing properties but that it was a gift freely given. His vow of success is earnest.

Dealu was about to resume his journey into the cave when a young human came running up. "Wait for me," said the newcomer, before slowing to a stop and bending over with his hands on his hips. The newcomer's breath was rapid and sweat was on his brows. "I'm Zragas. Zoinks Zragas." said he. "Treant sent me here to join you in cleaning up the stream. I hope I am not too late. All I saw was a bunch of sticks back there. I'm frequently late, or at least that is what my previous masters said about me. Who are you?"
Dealu looks the youngster up and down. Much too clean to have had a terrible life, but the word "masters" means he hasn't always been free. Possibilities. "I'm Dealu Burntland. Yes, I would welcome your assistance with cleaning up the stream. Let's go." Dealu was naturally quiet and conversations usually had a way of turning potential friends into complete enemies, once they learned of his goblin past, so he was happy to leave aside the getting-to-know each other part and resume moving.
The two enter the cave and soon enough the shrieker shrieks. Dealu and Zoinks take turn using the creature for target practice - Dealu (7, 13) Zoinks (8, 13) - and quickly kill it although neither of them shot well. The shrieker did its job though, with 2 Bullywog Warriors emerging abuot 60' away just as Dealu and Zoinks killed it.

Background: Her family history, attractive but not beautiful looks and her smooth movements made Xi Chi a natural at being a high-society courtesan. Her green eyes were her special draw and helped her gain information or eliminate marks during her adventures. She always wears at least one piece of red as a reminder to herself of her violent nature. Xi Chi left the big city after her politically-connected father informed her the local authorities were investigating her for a murder that she actually had committed. Until that storm died away, it was best for her to explore the world and gain some skills.

So meeting an elf who introduces her to an animate tree was not what Xi Chi was expecting but, like she had done many other times, she rolled with it. She accepts the acorn and bows deeply before moving to the mouth of the cave where the first wave of Twig Blights moved forward.

The cave brings everyone closer, so the Bullywugs start only 40' away and both throw spears at Xi (attack 13, 19) with one hitting (damage 4)

The Bullys continue and attack with their teeth (12, 16) with one hitting (damage 3) before stooping to pick up their spears

Breathing a sigh of relief, she kills the fungus that is poisoning the stream.

She reports her results to Treant, who looks her up and down slowly before saying, "You need a bath," to which she replies, "Definitely." She accepts the Staff of Flowers and again takes the acorn and bows deeply before departing. She has the money now to enjoy a tavern with a bath and she plans to do just that.
Having heard Erybend is the largest settlement around, Xi goes there. She spends they extra coin for a wealthy room (2gp) and pays even more to have a wealthy meal with a pitcher of wine brought to her room (1gp). It wasn't all for pampering, she didn't want many people to see her before she was properly dressed. So the next day, after a good wash and use of her various outfits, she sashayed into the common room and inquired about where to buy and sell gear. She buys a hand crossbow with bolts and a scimitar (100gp) and trades in the short bow (12gp10sp). She also sells the staff of flowers (125gp). She buys a disguise kit and three healing potion (too many close calls on that last adventure). She turns down several invitations for drinks and again requests the same meal and drink be brought to her room (another 3gp). She starts making plans for resuming her adventure the next day.

A slave to a goblin tribe for many years, his skills with animals - domesticated and wild - kept him alive until he escaped. However, no "civilized" people will accept him, so he wanders from town to town with his faithful mastiff, Adie, and periodic friendship with local animals.
Dealu is surprised that someone approached him with an offer of employment to do something good. He was used to people approaching him with weapons unsheathed and bile dripping from their words. Of course he said yes, particularly since the task involved helping the forest, a living if amorphous being that he greatly respected and relied upon. Dealu accepts with gratitude the acorn, not only because of its healing properties but that it was a gift freely given. His vow of success is earnest.

Background: He was a former scribe at a secluded temple. While he learned calligraphy and cartography from his efforts, what really made an impression was how conceited elves are. So while stewing internally about their embellished prose, he watched the monks and secretly tried to copy their moves. He just left the temple in the hopes of making his own stories that future scribes would transcribe.
Dealu was about to resume his journey into the cave when a young human came running up. "Wait for me," said the newcomer, before slowing to a stop and bending over with his hands on his hips. The newcomer's breath was rapid and sweat was on his brows. "I'm Zragas. Zoinks Zragas." said he. "Treant sent me here to join you in cleaning up the stream. I hope I am not too late. All I saw was a bunch of sticks back there. I'm frequently late, or at least that is what my previous masters said about me. Who are you?"
Dealu looks the youngster up and down. Much too clean to have had a terrible life, but the word "masters" means he hasn't always been free. Possibilities. "I'm Dealu Burntland. Yes, I would welcome your assistance with cleaning up the stream. Let's go." Dealu was naturally quiet and conversations usually had a way of turning potential friends into complete enemies, once they learned of his goblin past, so he was happy to leave aside the getting-to-know each other part and resume moving.
Not sure how to pin (so I can come back) to post so will reply to have this in messages and work to get a character
The two enter the cave and soon enough the shrieker shrieks. Dealu and Zoinks take turn using the creature for target practice - Dealu (7, 13) Zoinks (8, 13) - and quickly kill it although neither of them shot well. The shrieker did its job though, with 2 Bullywog Warriors emerging abuot 60' away just as Dealu and Zoinks killed it.
