Hastos sticks close to Sera and Merkas. “Even if they’re blinded, they’ll attack with whatever they have. How about you let me be the first in? I’ll take the first round, then you can blind them while they’re regrouping?”
Sera blinks and consider Hastos idea " okay...so after the illusion lure them out you take the lead... I try position myself and the sword so they get blinded"
It was Sharn's time to imitate Merkas. He was close to the ladder, definitely closer than his allies had been when the trap fired last time. But he also had something they didn't, knowledge. The trap was at the height of a small creature, Hastos worked as an excellent elven ruler to measure that. Sharn timed it, patience and anxiety at the flames being his greatest rival. He stepped on one wall, jumping to the other and gaining height. His dense body had enough momentum to vault through the air, a nervous ball of dwarf, to land past the fire as it subsided and to the ladder. (rolled a 20, 18+2, on acrobatics to do monk gymnastics, if a dex save is necessary I'm absolutely in to roll it, I love doing monk stuff.)
Sharn bounds from wall to wall in a graceful blur, with all the agility of a flea, taking to the air as shorter burst of flame bathes the stone below him. His clothes blast against him from the rush of hot wind as he flips through the air, a dwarven cannon ball aiming straight for the ladder! Just as the flames begin to subside, Sharn stretches out his legs, forming a human spear and lands lightly onto the ladder, which his mustache grazing the lip of the dragon sculpture, and does a fireman's slide down the length of the ladder with confident grace.
cheapjoke123 Sharn comes down with enough control to chose not to land on the pile, but there are now 5 of you occupying the same square, so you're all like sardines in a can. Sharn also receives 7100 XP from the combination spear/fire trap XP.
Merkas sends his clone out, looking cheerful and nonchalant.
No Deception check needed, your bonuses clear the DC.
Suddenly, four kobolds jump out of their hiding spots, rushing towards the blue illusion with clubs held high, screaming bloody murder! As they descend on the unaware-looking clone, Sera's Flame Sword erupts with light and the kobolds shriek in pain as their eyes adjust to the brightness! They rub their eyes and stagger backwards, hissing curses. Kobold Blue dives behind a crate, crashing into its wooden side with a hard thump. Kobold Teal's sling bullet skips off the cavern ceiling and ricochets off stalactites before rolling harmlessly onto the ground.
With all of you occupying the same space, you are incapable of fighting or casting further spells until enough of you leave the space. Kobold Blue has Total Cover and is not Blinded for one round. All the other Kobolds have the Blinded Condition for one Round. Kobold Teal has Half Cover. Sera has her Initiative (7) ready. Everyone else, please roll Initiative. I believe Hastos has a Readied Action to charge in and Attack. MrUncleTio please include your Attack and Damage roll with your Initiative check.
Sera’s plan worked exactly as she predicted. At the flash of light, the kobolds were disoriented enough that their initial attacks were useless! As confusion erupts, Hastos charges in directly at the green kobold, teeth bared and growling and sword held high!
Initiative: 10 Intimidation to Green Kobold: 17
Hastos begins to bring his sword around and at the last moment pivots toward the red Kobold, his sword swinging just over the green kobolds head and directly at the red Kobold! As he skids to a stop between the two kobolds, Sharns words echo in his head and in the last moment, Hastos flicks his wrist, turning the blade sideways to avoid delivering a lethal blow.
Kasi remembers this time to shut her eyes when the flame sword lights up. She flutters her eyes open, and still winces from the light, but is unable to ready her bow and arrow in the confined space.
Readied Round:
Hastos charges in, his feral growl terrifying the already disoriented Kobold Green, who holds his arms up in a weak defense!
Kobold Green has the Frightened Condition for 1 Round and can't willingly approach Hastos.
The flat of his blade slams into Kobold Red, sending him sprawling to the ground. The blade still makes a thin cut on the kobold's cheek and a droplet of blood rolls down the length of the runnel, causing the pommel to glow with a gentle heat. It's warm, but not hot to the touch. Runes flare to life along the length of the blade, indiscernible at first, until they fully form in the Elvish alphabet.
Kobold Red is Unconscious.
Round 1:
Initiative Order:
Kobold Green Kasi Kobold Blue Hastos Sharn Sera Kobold Teal (Restrained) Merkas Kobold Red (Unconcisous)
Petrified by the towering and brutal elf, Kobold Green turns tail and runs, unwilling to face his fury!
MrUncleTio you may make an AoO against Kobold Green for leaving your threatened square. He's too panicked to try to disengage.
Kasi crawls on top of the crates to get a better vantage point, and lines up a shot against Kobold Teal, assuming her ranged attacks will be most useful against that one. She adjusts her aim to hit his shoulder and mutters something in Yip-yak that sounds regretful, like an apology. The arrow soars through the caves, pinning the kobold's sling-throwing arm to the cavern wall.
Kasi Attacks with Emphasis (Called Shot) with a 19. Restrained Condition Applied.
Kobold Blue starts to retreat as well, but then he perks up when he hears the sounds of more kobolds approaching. Not wanting to look like a coward, he rushes forward with his club, swinging awkwardly at Hastos! The attack is well-projected, and Hastos easily anticipates the swipe at his kneecap. The club rebounds off his shield with an unimpressive thud.
Kobold Blue Attacks (8) with his club and misses. MrUncleTio Hastos is up; you also have an Attack of Opportunity against Kobold Green.
As Green Kobold starts to run, Hastos takes a wide step in the direction the kobold is starting to run and brings the flat of his sword overheard in a wide arc attempting to bring it down squarely on the head of the retreating kobold.
As Green Kobold starts to run, Hastos takes a wide step in the direction the kobold is starting to run and brings the flat of his sword overheard in a wide arc attempting to bring it down squarely on the head of the retreating kobold.
To Hit: 16 Damage: 6
Before Kobold Green can even finish spinning on his heels, Hastos's sword comes down with a BONK! Kobold Green's eyes cross, and he staggers for a step, then crumples to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
The runes light up into the same pattern. Kobold Green is unconscious.
Sharn jumped off the ladder and rushes over to the blue kobold. His first attack went for the kobold's feet. (12 to hit and 5 damage if that hits) Then with the little creature stumbling, the next attack was an open palm strike to the side of its head. Intended to discombobulate, though not slay, only to knock out. (18 to hit for 7 damage hopefully non lethal)
Sera barely had time to catch her breath before the sharp yip-yap of incoming kobolds echoed down the tunnel. More were on their way.
The plan had worked beautifully—the blinding flare of her sunblade had stunned their foes, allowing her companions to strike swiftly. Three kobolds lay unconscious, while one was pinned to the wall by an arrow, squirming in place.
She moved fast, vaulting over the crates with practiced ease. The pinned kobold hissed and struggled, his eyes wide with fear. Sera didn’t want to kill him. Her sunblade was a weapon of war, and this wasn’t a battle—it was a raid they needed to end with as little bloodshed as possible.
So she raised her shield instead.
With a forceful slam, the lightweight but unyielding metal struck the kobold’s snout, the impact reverberating through her arm. His head snapped back against the wall, and his eyes rolled back.
( nat 20 for 17 dam)
She exhaled, adjusting her stance. The fight wasn’t over yet. More were coming. She do not need to explain as she withdraws the light again and only Merkes shining double provided light.

Sharn's leg sweep sends Kobold Blue airborne. And before he can even hit the ground, his calloused palm turns out Kobold Blue's lights. He crashes hard on the ground, concussed and unaware of the attack that knocked him out.

Sera makes scaling the wall up to Kobold Teal look almost too easy. And the last thing Kobold Teal sees before darkness is her shield flying towards him.

OooOooh you are welcome here no more” The kender wails as the dancing light apparition shambles forward. Kobold Yellow is Frightened for One Round and will not willingly approach Merkas's Dancing Light ghost.
As Merkas's light source moves towards the kobolds, you can now see them better, but the rest of the party (except Hastos) is in total darkness. Kobold Pink and Gray examine the scene and prepare their attacks.
Kobold Gray barks out orders in Yip-yak and readies his dagger.
Delayed Initiative and Readies Attack.
Kasi, thrilled to be back in darkness lines up her shot, drawing her bow and taking a deep breath, lowering her bow to aim towards Kobold Yellow's knee.
Kasi uses High Ground to Attack with Advantage, calling her shot (Roll with Emphasis): Attack 20, Condition (Incapacitated).
Her arrow flies perfectly into Kobold Yellow's knee dropping him to the ground with a pained howl! Kasi winces sympathetically as he drops, and Kobold Gray yells something vicious sounding her way.
Hastos sheathes his sword and steps forward, hand out palm outward facing. He yells back over his shoulder to Kasi "Kasi, tell them we're not here to hurt them or steal from them and ask them to hold their weapons!"
Hastos prepares his response should the Kobolds choose to take advantage of his peace offering.
Kasi, looking somehow even more concerned than before, calls out to the kobolds, then crawls down from her perch atop the crate, translating more of Hastos's words.
Initiative Paused.
Kobold Gray hisses back and points at the unconscious kobolds. Kasi shakes her head, and replies in Yip-Yak. Kasi looks to Hastos. "Big one say Masters invade home. Kill kobolds. Big One say surrender or die."
Sera stayed on the ledge, gripping the edge with tense fingers as Hastos sheathed his sword and began speaking to the kobolds. His voice was firm but measured, carrying through the chamber with an air of authority. He told them they weren’t here to kill or steal.
She listened, but doubt curled in her stomach. We came to take the crates. To bring the ones responsible to justice. But what did justice even mean for these kobolds? Would they surrender willingly, knowing full well what awaited them? A trial, perhaps. Facing justice for the slaughter they did. More likely, a swift execution awaited them.
No one had spoken about what came after.
Her grip on her shield tightened. Sera wanted to believe in the possibility of peace, in the idea that they could solve this without more bloodshed. But deep down, she had no illusions. This would end as most things did—with steel and fire.
For now, though, she held her tongue. She let Hastos speak. Maybe, just maybe, the kobolds would listen.
Sharn smiled hearing Hastos' attempt. Even if they didn't agree to the parley, it showed restraint and conviction. Sharn sat down with his legs crossed, his hands visible. Perhaps it would put them at ease, perhaps they would take offense to the gesture. He would not take action until they did again.
Kasi translates, putting away her arrow back into her quiver. The other kobolds look to each other. The gray one reaches down to Kobold Yellow and cuts the arrow out of his knee. Kobold Yellow yelps and whimpers. Kobold Gray holds the arrow up and continues yapping at Kasi angrily, pointing at her. Kasi looks down, ashamed, then puts away her bow and holds her hands out, like she's pleading. She looks to Hastos, concern in her eyes.
"Big One no trust Kasi. Big One say Kasi shoot brothers. Kasi had no choice! Kasi protect Masters!" She seems genuinely pained by the act of harming another kobold, and the scars and wrinkles on her face, stretched by worry, fear, and shame enhance the expression, even in the dim light.

Still staring intently at the Kobold doing the talking Merkas says “This is Kasi, Newt Slayer.
