(you know guys, maybe there's a tattoo artist looking for a new shop in the middle of the woods and maybe he pays us back in dragonmark tattoos instead of gold)
How early would I notice? As soon as I do, I'd like to go to Fala and request some herbs that will help with sleep and anxiety. Since Lucian knows what is going on and the risk Chen is in, he wants Chen to be able to defend himself.
My goal is to help reduce the exhaustion by treating it early.
"If you don't want to fight, you don't have to. I can turn you invisible, so you can get out of town safely, and you can hide out at the treehouse until they set sail again. That being said... if you do, we can make it happen. I can disguise myself to look like you, and we can lure them into a trap. We can try to convince the Captain to meet you somewhere to settle things."

I will say that on the 7th day you are able to notice it affecting him. So the day before the Battle of the Bards

Did Fala have anything that actually would help him get a night's sleep before the battle?
OOC, Josh had me do some rolls privately, and this is the result:
Chen has been complaining of not sleeping well. By the time day 8 rolls around (the day of the Battle of the Bards), Chen looks quite haggard. He's moving at half his usual speed, and he's making a lot of mistakes at whatever he attempts to do. He says, "Just as I feared, The Blushing Bride and her crew are in town for this horrid festival. I've seen some of my old shipmates in town. They've been watching me for the last two days. I don't know how they recognized me, since I've been wearing these great disguises all the time, but I think they have." He will look at Nijal and say, "You said you thought we should attack Capt. Whitecap and send him and his dogs to the bottom of the ocean. Well, it looks like the time has come, whether we are ready or not."
Chen will then describe The Blushing Bride as a ship made of white wood, and that its most distinctive feature is the figurehead on the ship's bow that is perpetually red, from the blood of Whitecap's victims. If it's moored in the docks, it should be pretty easy to find.
Nijal looks Chen in the face with an intensity the borders on unnerving in his eyes,
"Next time you see one of your old "mates", make sure you point them out. As for this ship, I want to see it for myself. That way we can figure out how and when best to sink it with the whole crew trapped onboard."
Nijal gives Chen a quick nod and quickly heads out towards the dock ward looking for The Blushing Bride.
OOC- I forgot to pose this to the group the other day so I wanted to toss it up here. We can do this in character if you want but basically the idea is this...whatever gold we make from the tavern, jobs, loot, etc. gets immediately split 50/50. Half goes into the Reputable Fellows fund for whatever expenses the group comes across adventuring, spells we want Kherek to have for the group, etc. The second half gets split evenly among us so that we all have our own pocket money for whatever we want to spend it on. After awhile I figure the fund will have enough money to help us pay for just about anything related to adventuring (weapons, armor, mounts, gear, etc.) and our "pocket money" can be used for whatever else you want. This would just ensure a positive cash flow towards future endeavors and help avoid not having the coin to pay for something we really need in a pinch later on.

Did Fala have anything that actually would help him get a night's sleep before the battle?
Yes. She can give you something that will make him sleep. It is a powerful sleep aid that will allow him to gain the benefits of a long rest but he will mechanically be under the affects of a sleep spell. She can have it ready for you the morning of the Battle of the Bards. That means that Chen is still at 2 lvls of exhaustion but you can prevent any further lvls and begin to get rid of the ones he is currently affected by.

doubtful
Can I do an insight check to see if I noticed that chen has been struggling to sleep before the 8th day?
You would notice it without a roll

Side note: How much is the dex tattoo, and does it come with side benefits like other dragon marks?
Lucian would also approach Chen,
"If you don't want to fight, you don't have to. I can turn you invisible, so you can get out of town safely, and you can hide out at the treehouse until they set sail again. I will look into the costs and effects this week so you guys can decide what, if any, you want.

If any of you want to do an Perception check for the Blushing Bride, you can do so.

sounds great.
For the Perception check: There is no sign of a ship by that name or description.
Kherek has been spending a not-insignificant amount of time looking into home and small business defense systems and services available in Waterdeep
(if this is acceptable I would love to make a roll to see what systems and services are available)
(Perhaps Arcane Defense Trust for instance)
