Elmo successfully does not laugh boisterously at Grem's misfortunes "A fine halfing beard you got there big fella. No shame in that. That's I beard that I would be proud to have! How did orcs get ahold of such an advanced device?"
Elmo looks at Morgana, "I shot where I shot to save our short bearded friend here. The orc leader deserved a good crossbow, but I don't regret my decision to give aid to our paladin. Know that I would do the same for you given the chance ya tiefling wench. Ill let you in on an ancient halfling secret to survival, keep your allies alive... especially the strong ones."
Also, Pat, we got all your texts this morning as you sent them. I dont think you got our responses in real time.
"I say we rest for as long as we can do so safely. My wee heart is still beating like orc drum. I cant sleep at the moment so I can take first watch."
Elmo puts his fist out to Bupido for him to do a fist bump. "Nice work today our angry friend! How are ye feeling? Do you have any thoughts about our current predicament?"
Not missing a beat Gremryl carries on "this but a scratch my sly halfling friend.. aside from diving and drinking Adbar dwarves are know to grow beards as hearty as Moradins beard himself! And ye poise the question... where did these dim witted big toothed spawn of giant spawn get these smoke screens?..take the first watch I'll take the second"
Gremryl lays against rock and snores like hill giant.
"Shuushar, are all of your people pacifists? if so how do your folk survive in the harsh Underdark? This place breeds harsh people and even more harsh gods. How have you and your gods flock survived so long?"
Shuushar looks to Elmo and says "My people are not pacificists if the Sea Mother wills it. She has given me my path in life and I follow. Not all are granted the same path. Others are much more...aggressive, shall we say?"
I'll address the mushroom: "I doubt you are as worthless as you think you are, little friend. I know that many fungi can put out spores that have a wide range of effects. Can you produce any spore clouds? Do you know what they do?"
I'll address the pacifist: "If your mother (****er) has a plan for you, it had better include saving your ass from peril because I won't lift s finger for anyone that isn't willing to return the favor. I should have left you in that slave pen where I fund you, coward!"
"I'll take 3rd watch" I roll over and go to sleep.
In terms of marching order and speed, I say we go with the same thing as last time. But maybe put a stealthed Elmo in the lead as a scout so he can tell us if there are any ambushes ahead that we might need to prepare for.
I would also like to charge my ring of spell holding with 2nd level charm, 2nd level witch bolt, and first level charm.
Elmo walks over to Morgana and whispers in her ear before she falls asleep, "Stop antagonizing the pacifist! We still require the aid of his bloody village."
You begin your day with the sound of Shuushar praying to his Sea Mother as he's the last to have taken watch for the group.
Shuushar - "Shall we be off?" he asks in a monotone voice that makes it hard to gather whether he's asking a question or giving a statement.
Making your way through the cavern system, you come to a narrow passageway allowing for only a single file approach forward. Elmo, as sneakily as he can be, takes lead for the group, hoping to spot any precarious encounters that may lie in wait ahead. Gremryl follows at a close-ish distance behind, then Morgana, Shuushar, Stool and finally Buppido. It just so happens that Elmo comes across 4 deurgers standing motionless ahead once the passageway opens up. The deurger aren't aware of Elmo's presence, however, they are positioned in something of a sentry formation as if to watch passersby for some unknown greater purpose.
Elmo waits for a few minutes, holding up his hand to signal to Gremryl to stop...Fortunately, Gremryl has Darkvision and notices the signal in time to not crash into Elmo. Morgana sees Gremryl stop and also stops. Everyone behind Morgana are also following closely behind one another to stop without making any noticeable sounds. After what seems like forever, Elmo sees no movement from the deurger. He's sure that he isn't noticed, but it's not likely he'll be able to sneak around them given their obvious intent is to watch the passageway opening for...something.
Elmo carefully inspects the duerger for a better understanding of the threat they may pose. To his odd satisfaction, each of the duerger remain absolutely motionless. They don't even blink, and it's impossible to discern whether or not they're even breathing. Surely they aren't statues, and almost assuredly they're alive, yet...motionless in every sense of the meaning.
Still, you think it best not to disregard them as a potential threat. However, nothing about their current state actually poses any threat, in Elmo's opinion.
Gremryl has a partly obscured view of the duerger, although they're close enough to make out broad details with his [Tooltip Not Found]. He senses danger, although isn't particularly moved to act on that feeling. With less detail, you also see what Elmo sees for the viewpoint you have.
Do you want to proceed as cautiously as possible or...?
Morgana uses Thaumaturgy to see if there's any reaction from the motionless deurger.
Shaking the ground a bit, the deurger adjust their legs to remain upright and then turn in your direction. The deurger that had his eyes locked on the passageway you're entering from continues to watch you closely it seems.
Hold on my stout friend, I have heard tales of creature in the under dark that can tame the will of even the most determined dwarven slaver. My worry mates, is that there are unseen foes ahead. What if this helpless halfling "stumbled" upon them. Then I would run back this way leading our foes into an ambush. If there are unseen enemies, it would draw them out and bottle neck our foes, however many of them they be. Just a humble halfling suggestion mates.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"That's a pretty good idea, my little friend, but let me try to charm them first since it is more difficult to do if they are hostile towards us." I'll try to sneak into range and cast my charm spell from a distance.
Stealth check=16
If I can get within range I'll cast a second level charm spell on the two closest dwarves. DC13 wisdom saving throw for those 2.
So morgana will charm, Elmo wonders into the chamber feigning helplessness, Elmo retreats to group, Grem jumps out of shadows to attack first enemy chasing, the party gets behind grem and we bottleneck the enemy? that the plan?
The plan is set. Elmo, remaining as stealthy as possible, meanders into the broader cave opening while Gremryl shuffles in quietly behind him and Morgana just after that. Elmo, expecting to be noticed and fully prepared to fall back where Gremryl could strike, finds to his surprise that the duerger aren't reacting at all to his advances. Gremryl moves to the side once he's in the larger cave opening area. Once Morgana has line of sight on the duerger, she casts Charm Person on two of them. The spell appears to have taken no effect on either of them!

What would you like to do?
Can I roll a perception check to see if I can tell their classes (are the dressed and equipped as fighters? Clerics? Wizards?): 14
Elmo signals the group to follow him and he leads the group back a short distance, find a hiding spot, and formulate a plan.
Seeing the signals Gremryl stops. Does he see the duergar? Or ate they out of sight to him?

I'll roll a perception check just in case.

I find their motionlessness odd. I'm gonna use my Thaumaturgy to shake the ground a bit, just to see how/if they react.
You feel no more threatened than you did before.
Gremryl shifts closer to elmo
”aye they seem enthralled... gray ones are evil and known to attack on sight...”
gremryl wants to move forward with weapons at the ready. Thoughts team?

Gremryl straps one of his Morning stars back on his back and takes out his shield (adding +2 to my ac) on my dnd character sheet now.
"aye, a sound plan indeed. lets go for it. '
