Well, Jimjar is too slow to cover the distance and engage in melee; so, I suppose I'll stick with having him throw the poisoned dart and, therefore, miss.
If you do a mouse-over the keyword prone , it mentions disadvantage if you are more more than 5' away. (Interesting... A weapon with Reach could have advantage or disadvantage, depending if the prone target is 5' or 10' away.)

Oh, I didn't know I could do that. So how would that work? #newb
All the way at the top of the web page, type "Ready" into the search bar. The first link found should be this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/phb/combat#Ready (or if you have the PHB in front of you, on page 193) (or hold your mouse over the "Ready" keyword below to get the pop-up description)
The idea is that you can chose one Action (or Bonus Action), and hold off on executing it until some condition is met. So in this case, you only want to do your ranged spell if Shoor is on his feet, so you can Ready your cantrip for when that happens... You run the risk that he never stands up (and your readied action doesn't happen), but with his high AC, I wouldn't want disadvantage if I could help it.

It also means a ranged weapon gets advantage if they're within 5', to cancel out the normal disadvantage from being in melee range while using a ranged weapon. Or to just have advantage if you have crossbow expert or something to remove the normal disadvantage

Thanks for all the sourcing. So if I'm understanding it correctly, I don't roll yet, but if/when Shoor stands up I can loose Eldritch Blast on him "out of turn."
And yeah, I didn't want to cast while he was prone since he's hard enough to hit even without disadvantage.

Pretty much what Quasimodal said. Several things to note:
1) A ready action requires a reaction to be used.
2) If you cast a spell that consumes a spell slot, the spell is cast when you declare you are readying it. Even if the trigger never happens and the spell is never released, the spell slot is still used. Obviously it is not an issue when casting cantrips.
3) Only the action part of your turn can be readied. Your movement can't be readied. But a dash can.
4) Using a ready action does not change your place in the initiative order.
For the sake of expediency in pbp, you can roll your attack and it will apply if the trigger occurs. Just be very clear the attack is a ready action.
Okay. Based on 1), I can't use Eldritch Blast since it's not one of my reactions. So it looks like I'll need to return my post back to its original state. Please confirm.

Also if you noticed, Shoor is doing a lot more damage than his first attack against Valthana. I screwed up the first attack and didn't roll the poison damage. I'll let it pass as Shoor will still accomplish his task.
I'm not trying to set you all up for a TPK. Just weeding out the NPC's and giving you all a shot at some very nice XP. I have a event planned to end the fight if it comes to that. If you all feel it's too dangerous, let me know and we can move on from this fight (with reduced XP gain).

No, you misunderstand.
To use a ready action you need the to use up an action (declare what your action will be) and when you want to release/use your action, you use your reaction to do so. I made a point of mentioning it because if you use a reaction to do an attack of opportunity (or some other ability/spell) before your turn comes around, then your reaction is used up and you can't ready an action as you no longer have a reaction for that turn to trigger the readied action.
Got it. I was confusing my official reactions with readying a reaction as an action. (Probably all for naught since my attack rolls have been less than stellar)

You'll be seeing on the next map update that I replaced many of the NPC tokens with portraits on white backgrounds with a solid blue round border. I hope this way I won't have to label who is who on the map, and the characters will pop out more when looking at the map.
If any of you want to change your token to a portrait (or something else), feel free to give me a link to the art and I'll make it into a token.
Valthana initiative: 14
Shoor initiative: 20
Looks like 8 attacks on Shoor before his spot in the initiative order. Maybe, just maybe, we pull this off.
I'm happy that Shoor (barely) missed his poison save. Disadvantage on his attack rolls will help a lot.
Edit: Ouch, a
1617 misses... Starting next round, Ront will try to push Shoor prone, so that people in melee range can get Advantage to hit.Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec

@ Jimjar: Ranged attacks against prone targets are at disadvantage. You want to redo your move?
Interesting. I wasn't aware of such a rule.

To act, or react, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the adventurer's turn to suffer
The pain and humiliation of a critical fail,
Or to place hope in planning for that triggering event
And thereby waiting gain glory.
I see Xilyrah edited her post.
Narstin and Eldeth can now act.

Regarding the manipulated results message in post 700...
The message was triggered when edited and posted the DM-inspiration roll; so, there's no net change to Tozer's attack. He missed.
Jimjar's attack roll didn't change (it was originally an 18), but the damage roll did change (it was originally a 4).
My apologies. I understand if you'd prefer to negate Jimjar's hit.
I see To-Hit of 18 and a damage of 4 + 2. It's not going to make a huge difference.
