"I think Holzane and I are going to hit the slums while Cross talks to the guards.  You can accompany either group or talk to the nobility since you're a local."  Vanoryn responds

Cross stomps after the cart and accompanying guards. "Hail, friends. What is your business at this hour?"

The human riding the cart looks at you, surprised. ''Just transporting my produce to Oakendale.''

"Who killed the king?" Cross booms, unintentionally terrifying the commoner.

"I think I'll talk to a few of the higher-ups." Myra starts on her way to the castle/keep

Cross, you successfully unintentionally intimidate him. ''I don't know! I am just a merchant!''

"Looks like Cross is off to a good head start Holzane let's go"  Vanoryn says as he starts looking for the slums of the town.

"Where might I find one who knows?" Cross asks, looming over the merchant.

(Cross) ''I don't know! Maybe the guardian would know? He must be at the tower.'' He says as he leaves on his cart.

(Myra) The closest thing to a keep that Jedburg has is the Tower.  It is where the king usually resides when he is in Jedburg.

(Vanoryn+Holzane) The further away from the center of the village you get, the poorer people get. The 'slums' of the village would be the farms closest to the mountains. The mountains are located at the side of Jedburg opposite to the forest entrance.

I go over to the tower, would i know the "mayor" of Jedburg?

Cross heads for the tower and inquires for 'the guardian '.

Cross and Myra, you would both know that a guardian is a knight if the shield promoted for an act of self-sacrifice or bravery. Guardians act as the protector of a village, town or city, and have sworn oaths to never leave their specified area, even under threat of death. Being a guardian is the highest honor for any knight of the shield.

(Cross aspires to be a guardian.)

Both of you walk to the tower. Sanding at the door is a huge half-orc wearing gold trimmed armor. With him are 4 of the standard guards.

"Greetings," Cross says, bowing. "We wish to speak with The Guardian."

The half-orc turns around, ''That would be me. What brings you out at a time like this?'' 

Vanoryn reaches the slums and begins to question the barkeeps, store owners and shady looking folk about the king and his potential murder.

"We have heard of the late king's death, gods rest his soul, and we wish to investigate his death further." Cross replies.

(Vanoryn) From the few people that agree to talk to you (mostly shop owners) you learn that King Damian ShieldBearer was a kind and fair king. The first thing he did as a king was to build the Shield (the wall that surrounds the kingdom). You also learnt that because he is very peaceful and does not want war, that the other kingdoms have become suspicious, and want to get rid of him. Is there anything else you want to ask about?

(Cross) "That is my goal also , maybe we could both work together, but first I wish to know your name." He replies.

The location or name of any large assassin/thief guild in the shield and if there were any other monarchs/ nobles that didn't like the king within the shield.

Vanoryn thanks each person and hands each of them a gold piece.
