Having taken her time examining the slaughtered sheep (and cleaning up afterwards down at the creek!), Vanja finally makes her way into the cottage to find out how the rest of the investigation is going.
"Well, it was definitely those twig creatures that killed the sheep...though I guess that doesn't help us much without knowing where those things came from. How are things going in here?"
Seeing that everyone seems a bit at a loss for the moment, she takes some time to look about herself and see what she might notice. (And she'll happily accept some Guidance from Drusk if he's available to cast it.)
(I'm pretty sure that Drusk and Hildigrim are help-ing out, so I'd take advantage of the Advantage.)

Like any good detective, Hildigrim circles the perimeter of the building. Without really paying attention to where he is or what else is going on, he continues back into the house, still measuring things with his eye, calculations floating about in his mind.
Hildigrim comes inside and looks around. He glances at the fireplace, then turns to the opposite wall, where Criella’s bed lays on the ground. He walks over there, kneels down, and feels the floor and the seams with his fingers. The floor here is not as flat as elsewhere. It would appear that the flagstones under the bed were laid atop something irregular. To find out what, they would have to be removed.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Drusk fishes out his light hammer and grappling hook (for leverage, since he doesn't have a pry bar).
"Criella, would you like to investigate the uneven floor that Hildigrim pointed out? It is your cottage. It will require tearing up the floor, and none of us are masons for the repair afterwards."

"There has to be something under this floor. Drusk, give me a hand with your great." Jorin says before adding, "oh, if that is, uh, ok with you of course, Criella."
Assuming she agrees, Jorin will spit on his hands, rub them together, and try to pull the odd flagstone up from the floor. Athletics: 21
With her assent, you move Criella’s bed aside. Hildigrim shows you what he found, and Drusk and Jorin get to work with makeshift tools. With a little whacking, scraping, some grunting and prying, and a tremendous heave by Jorin, you pull up a flagstone, then another, and another.
Underneath, covered with mortar and dirt, you uncover a metal door set into a metal frame in the floor. It has a strong metal padlock that looks to be in remarkably good condition. The whole thing looks remarkably secure.
Criella is shocked that this exists in her home. Mrs Brinarei shushes and comforts her.

Jorin, make an Int roll (so add your Int mod), and add your proficiency bonus since you’re experienced in metalworking.
Drusk, you should roll Investigation when examining things. If I recall, your Investigation bonus is +1 (your Perception is +2? But I can’t see your sheet right now) which gives you a final roll + guidance of 16. You do not see any traps or holes in the “hatch.” In fact, it seems remarkably... secure.

Jorin gets down close to the door and runs his hands along the seams and over the hinges.
"This is a very nice piece of metal working! Is very old, a couple hundred years if I had to guess. The lock though, is newer but not anything particularly special. We should be careful when opening it as the lock could have been placed on the door to keep something from getting out." Jorin says while drawing his axes, "Hildigrim, you want to try your hand that lock?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hildigrim immediately and gleefully produces a set of tools as a reaction to Jorin's request. But as the halfling prepares to use them, he suddenly stops and gives Mrs. Brinarei, Criella and Vanja a sheepish look. "While I have supplemented what I have gleaned from literature on the subject of picking locks with practical study, I promise I have not used this knowledge for ill-gotten gains. I hope you'll believe me." He gives them a slight shrug, then bends over the lock and goes to work.

(OoC: If only that's how Guidance worked...)

Jorin is providing a detailed description of the acoustic-topographic research he and Drusk did of the floor to help Vanja with her own investigating.
OoC - help and guidance for advice + 1d4??
Vanja seems as lost as the rest of you. The flooring is definitely a curiosity.
At some point you all will discover what you are looking for, but I would be happy to wait for the Rogue to do what he does...

When the time comes, he will pray to give Hildigrim guidance to unlock the door.
Before that, Drusk will check the door for traps (wires connected to the lock or the exterior of the door, and openings for spikes or gas).

OoC - snap! I'll write an RP post after we find out what Jorin discovered.
