The look on William's face is one of shock. "I mean, rat marines speaking in common did seem rather weird, but Purgatorium?!?" He says, as he sits down on the closest flat surface, looks down at his weapon and wonders if that explains the voice he sometimes hears emanating from the ax.
"I have so many questions, but it sounds like if we die here we wink out of existence. I suppose our sense of urgency dealing with the Rat King is still the number 1 priority. Shall we prepare to head to the town center for the showdown of our lives?"
Farel scratches his flames and says, "Well... you don't blink out of existence... dying here means you'll probably go to Infernum or Hell." He sees the horrified expressions of the other villagers and says, "Yeah... doesn't sound much better... Well, I'll be watching the fight from the sky and playing battle music. Maybe you'll be able to come up with some way to beat the Rat King." With these parting words, the fire god flies off into the sky.
The owner of the castle, Francis the Rich Dude says, "My man, you guys are tired and wounded. My house is fortified enough. I think you should rest before going out there." (Suggests Long Rest)
Havena steps forward and says, "The three of you are now our village's biggest hope. If we are going to fight the rat king, then you need to be at full power."
Orianna leads her dad to her room to sleep on the floor. She says, "You look a bit different dad. There's something different. Maybe it's a more powerful presence?"
Orianna’s comment snaps William back from staring off into space. “Huh? Oh, yes, I guess dealing with the rat marines has had a distinct effect on me....” ....His voice trails off and his stare returns to the same blank look as he starts to listen again for the voices.
The next day (Around 3AM) everyone gathers at the breakfast table to eat breakfast and to discuss tactics. The fisherman's wife says, "Alright, so at the end of the day we are dealing with rats. Rats are the least active at around 5 AM. What I think we should do is try to sneak over as close as possible to the square without being detected. Once there, Joben and William can engage the Rat King. The rest of us will fight to hold back the rat army from attacking them. We can't hold them forever but we don't have to. If the Rat King falls, the army flees." The hunter says, "I can climb on to a nearby roof with a longbow. Then I'd be able to offer supporting fire."
In the wee hours of the morning, when the sunlight had just begun to shine from the distant horizon, the town's resistance moved through the shadows. They wove stealthily around tired rat guards and through dark alley-ways. The gods, well... the fire god watched with bated breath as the villagers came closer and closer to the rat king. It was time. Orianna wished William good luck while Joben's old boss promised a feast should the halfling succeed. Then it was time. The villagers scattered and engaged the rats, giving the two champions an opening to rush into the Village square. As the village around them devolved into a war zone, Joben the pervert and William the woodcutter stood facing the Rat King.
The Rat King wasn't a giant rat. It was a normal sized rat with a tiny crown and king's robe. In its right hand it held a tiny scepter. The only thing that didn't fit its size was its throne. It was a normal looking wooden chair, the kind you see in restaurants. It was human sized. The Rat King says, "So you've come to take back your village eh? Well, it is futile. Humans have ruled this village for long enough. Now it is time for the reign of the rats to begin. As long as I, James Sullivan Vermin III, The Rat King, live the rats will not fall. If you think you can beat me by yourselves you are dead wrong.
The Rat King presses a button on his scepter and the chair transforms into a giant robot. Using the Rat Megaphone fitted into the Rat Mech, James says, "BEHOLD! The pinnacle of Rat technology, the 1st Generation Rat Mech: Fungi 8. You cannot hope to defeat this war machine!"
The Rat Mech is a towering construct made of wood and metal. Its chest is fitted with an impenetrable wooden wall. There is a towering shield attached to its left forearm. Mounted on its left wrist is a gigantic great sword. Its right hand is a chain operated gattling gun. Its legs have huge pumps which allow it move at incredible speeds, blowing away any who stand near it. Finally, its special weapon is a shoulder mounted heavy ballista.Truly the Fungi 8 is an unstoppable war machine... BY RAT STANDARDS.
By human standards, it is barely taller than a goblin. Its body is made of cheap wood and tin. The impenetrable wall on its chest is cheap shield that can be made by any 3rd rate blacksmith. The towering shield on its left forearm is of a similar size and shape as a dictionary. The wrist mounted great sword is a dagger and the gattling gun is a gattling dart thrower. The pumps allow the machine to move about as fast as a wood elf. The special weapon is the only thing worth being concerned about. It is a shoulder mounted Heavy Crossbow.
Seeing the final battle about to begin, Farel takes out his flute and begins playing boss music (video related). By virtue of him being a god and his flute being magical, he can produce any kind of sound he wants when he plays his flute. Hearing the boss music, Joben and William feel pumped (both of you get Inspiration. You can use it once but it doesn't have a time limit). The Rat Mech may not be as unstoppable as the Rat King thinks it is but it is definitely going to be harder to take down than Giant rats or Swarms of Rats. But if you can destroy it, you've won and the village is saved.

Lair Action (Villagers): Hunter shoots RatMech: 5 Dmg:6 Lair Action (RatMech): Airstrike - DC13 DEX or be blinded until next Lair Action Joben's DEX:7 William's DEX:20
The Ratmech raises its hand. The Hunter tries to shoot it with his longbow but misses. After stopping to give the hunter a look that says, "What were you even aiming at?", the Ratmech lowers its hand and calls in an airstrike. A swarm of Rat Marines riding on diarrhea afflicted pigeons fly over the battle field and try to shit on the party. Joben gets hit in the face with pigeon diarrhea and is blinded till next turn. William raises his table shield to block the aerial bombardment.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(William and Joben both already have inspiration for boss music but I'll allow the inspiration to stack as long as you don't use two of them in one turn)
Ratmech Fires its Gattling Dartgun and moves back 35 feet. 1 damage: DEX12 to prevent. Joben:25 (Dis: 8) William: 13
James puts the Fungi 8 in reverse and moves 35ft backwards. While doing so, he opens fire on Joben and William with his Gatling Dart Gun. William raises his shield to block the spray of dirt. Because of spray and pray tactics, every single dart misses Joben.
William's turn. (Note: To reach the Ratmech now would require a dash action)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
William takes off, running towards the mech and yelling the incantation to his Hexblade curse, targeting the creature. Then, with his free hand, he lets loose an eldritch blast.
William chases the Ratmech that's still moving in reverse. He hurls a bolt of Eldritch energy which the Rat blocks completely with its shield. It then commands, "Fire the Rat Cannon!". A large boulder hurtles toward William. At least, it's a giant boulder by rat standards. For humans and halflings, that rock is about the size of a volleyball. It's still pretty big for a rock, especially considering that a makeshift ballista (an actual one) flings it at William at high speeds. He manages to slow down just a bit to let the rock pass in front of him. The Hunter keeps trying to hit the Ratmech but it is hard to hit thanks to it moving so much.
The look on William's face is one of shock. "I mean, rat marines speaking in common did seem rather weird, but Purgatorium?!?" He says, as he sits down on the closest flat surface, looks down at his weapon and wonders if that explains the voice he sometimes hears emanating from the ax.

“Ok, let’s head to the town square. Any thoughts on how we might get there without having to fight all the rats from here to there?”
The house is big but it is pretty full thanks to the majority of the villagers taking shelter here. Joben finds a place to sleep on the floor.
"I agree," William says as he goes to find a bed.
OOC: that's actually a good idea. I think it's comical how much I forget to rest in PbP. in my IRL games, we're always trying to rest. LOL.

You guys can also get any common weapons and armor from this place with some exceptions:
No: Plate, Half-Plate, Splint, Halberds, Lances, Mauls, Heavy Crossbows.
Awesome! William eats heartily then dons a breastplate. He’s rather fond of his makeshift table shield though, so he keeps that.
