Once the three wounded are secured in the barracks, Ivolyn searches the barracks once more for anything else of use. She coils the rope and hangs it on the outside of her pack, then finally nibbles on some hard biscuits from her pack as she sketches in her book.

“Our fellows will wake up soon, but they will not be in condition to do much. I think we all need a full night’s rest.” The young woman subconsciously places a hand on the slash across her shoulder as she speaks with Umbutu and Grimbeard. The blood has dried, but it remains more than just tender. “I know a short rest will not do much for me, and I think it is quite late.”
Ivolyn turns the paper toward her companions. She has drawn a sketch of the goblin cave. “I do not think there is much of the cave left to explore. The bugbear was here on the bridge,” she points to an area on her map. “And not much later appeared here,” she slides her finger along the paper. “If anywhere in the cave would have something of use, it would be the bugbear’s rooms,” she speculated. “Should we clear the cave and maybe stay here tonight?”
Ivolyn, who is trying to maintain a calm, stepwise approach to their current circumstance, finds her eyes welling with unbidden tears and her voice suddenly pitches with a plead for rest. She rubs her eyes hard, trying not to seem weak before her new friends, but it is clear the events of the day are taking a toll on this woman who has never seen so much adventure before.
Seeing the exhaustion on the faces of all the group members, Grimbeard says "I think we can take a bit of a rest here. If the others are in a better condition when they wake, than perhaps we can explore more before leaving this forsaken cave." He then sets his staff against a cave wall and sits, preparing a ration to eat.
Ivolyn curls up her bed roll on the dirty floor. “Wake me up for the next watch....” Hardly before she is finished speaking the young woman is asleep, curled into a tight ball.
Umbutu piles dry wood on the smoldering coals of the goblin fire. "I hope Indlovu is managing on her own. " He mutters to himself. Once he has the fire going again he pulls out some dried meat and begins to chew on it in contemplation.
Ivolyn’s sleep is full of odd and vivid dreams characterized by a few low murmurs and jerking motions while she slept. She awakes four hours after practically passing out and moves over to sit next to Umbutu. She sighs deeply and looks at her traveling companion for a beat too long, as if considering her words.
“They would have killed us, if we didn’t kill them first,” she spoke these words as if trying to convince herself or get confirmation. She sighed. “I guess I thought I could save a few. Almost worked - but what would we have done with them after?” She spoke of her successful spellweilding and wordsmithing that seeming changed a few of the goblins’ minds to work as allies.
Umbutu throws some more wood on the fire. "I believe there is an alternative to this kill-or-be-killed world we live in. But until we have found it, I am prepared to do what is necessary for the survival of my friends."
He glances over at Sildar as the man stirs. "Well met, friend. We did not have the time for a proper introduction earlier. I am Umbutu. "
Alberich stares into the fire thinking, after a moment he says, "Goblins and their ilk are motivated by greed. Nothing will ever be enough, no matter what you give them. They are violent and will use violence to accomplish their goals. If there is no one else for them to take from they will turn on each other eventually. Sooner or later this band or another would target Phandalin. If they were successful it would attract more goblins, bugbears, and hobgoblins until the whole north would be under threat if no one stopped the horde."
Ivolyn sighs and nods. The moral dilemma still tugging at her it seems, but she pats Umbutu on the back. “Get some sleep if you wish. I need to study a little anyway. “I will wake you if I hear anything. Thanks for everything.”
To Alberich, she smiles, a little weary but much of her optimistic charm has returned, thanks to some long needed rest. “I’m Ivolyn. How did you come to be inprisioned? Sildar was the body guard to our employer and when we found their mounts dead at the same spot goblins ambushed us, we assumed....” She trailed off, leaving the obvious to speak for itself. As she speaks she retrieved her book and begins taking notes if Alberich speaks.
Umbutu nods to Ivolyn, shakes Sildar's hand, and collapses on his bedroll. He continues to lie awake, listening to the conversations around him and musing on the events of the day.

((Does this time count as a short rest for Alberich?))
Alberich wakes up and rubs his head. Wincing as he sits up. "Well done. I thought that was the end of me. Thank you."
Umbutu shivers under his wet clothes and glances at his companions. "Should we light a fire? The goblins are already well aware of our presence. "
