Which part of the building is the tapping coming from?
From one of the workshops. You can't tell which one.
There are 4 doorways in this 30' x 40' building. An office to your left, a workshop to the right, another doorway on the right further down the hallway, and the last doorway at the end of the hallway.

"Hello?" Hildigrim calls quietly as if satisfying some bit of ingrained decency. Seeing one door to the left and three to the right, he heads to the left first.
A wooden plaque on the door marks Captain Bevan’s office. The office itself is neatly kept, and at a glance, nothing seems out of place.
The office (left doorway) has a desk with various papers, and a large wall fireplace (cold and dark).
(OOC: Describe what you want to do, and roll a d20 in case I need it.)

Jorin is sticking close to Hildrin. He is a little on edge, unnerved by the atmosphere and wanting to be near his small friend in case something needs axed.
(OOC: On the outpost roster, the captain's name was Morys Bivin. In this section of the module, it is Mairwen Bevan. I am using the later. And I went back and "fixed" the roster.)
Pascal causes a bonfire to flare up in the fireplace, which quickly dies out due to the lack of wood. But it gets the stones hot enough to make the room more comfortable.
(Perception 19) Pascal takes a look above the mantelpiece. A section of the wall is cleaner, revealing that there was recently a large picture or mirror above the mantelpiece, which is now absent.
There is a tome, bound in silk and embellished in silver-leaf. (Not-a-spoiler, but to make this easier to find later.)
It’s titled "Sight of Poem and Prophecy" by Eydus Zadeik.
The inscription on the flyleaf reads as follows: Mairwen. For your numerous questions on the future, perhaps this tome will bring you comfort if not insight. -AN
Hildigrim and Jorin check the papers on the desk. Two papers are of interest:
An itinerary of the items expected on the missing cargo shipment. It appears complete.
There’s a log indicating that Faelana Hallothel and Idwal Mordecai didn’t return from harvest. It’s noted that the incident was reported to Immeral Lomithradia, who held the evening watch.
They also find one of the desk drawer's is locked. (Sleight-of-hand 8) Hildigrim fiddles with the lock. "Almost got it... almost got it..." (Athletics 19) Eventually Jorin steps forward and rips the drawer open, sending splinters of wood flying.
Inside is a love letter, written by Telor Bevan, the husband of Mairwen. It was crumpled up, then flattened out.
Your eyes hine as castaway stars, bringing warmth on colorless days. Golden ears tipped like delicate wings, brush so gently against my cheek. Your breath is cool and playful in the wind, trailing after each kiss. How true my heart beats for you, my darling Faelana.

Quillary jumps as the fire roars to life, throwing a haunted look first at the hearth, then at the shadows it throws. She quickly calms though, and says quietly, “This is not death,” she crouches and feels the floor. “Death leaves a trace, this is something else, sorrow. Disappearance. Could lycanthropes have taken these people?”

OOC: We know that Telor Bevan was the husband of Mairwen Bevan? Also, how do we know he wrote the love letter?
Hildigrim does the same quick perusal of the book for more information, then puts it away with the first tome. After reading the letter, Hildigrim pulls the roster out and lets his eyes take in the names again quickly. "Faelana Hallothel was assigned to the kryne harvest," he comments to Jorin.
Intelligence: 5
He looks up at the human. "Do you know what kryne is?"
OOC: We know that Telor Bevan was the husband of Mairwen Bevan? Also, how do we know he wrote the love letter?
(OOC: I should have mentioned the quote was a highlight of the kind of stuff in the love letter. There is more to it, that confirms Telor wrote it. For the marriage, other papers on the desk would mention that, or Seren would confirm that from one of the letters Andras wrote... If you are asking if it could be a forgery, that is possible but seems unlikely.)
Nature check for someone (other than Hildigrim and his "5") to remember what kryne is. Pascal has Advantage on the roll.

Jorin looks at Hildi and says, "Aye, Faelana. She must have been..." he pauses and searches for a connection, you can probably smell smoke burning as thumb and forefinger rubs chin, "...good with a scythe, uh, to be assigned to the harvest."
Pascal informs Hildigrim, and the rest of the group, that kryne is a silvery swamp plant that can be quite lovely to view, and is harvested as a food source.
(Pascal is not terribly interested, as it has a bland taste, unsuitable for his exciting dishes.)

Hildigrim smiles genuinely at Pascal's story, then turns back to the letter. "So, it seems Captain Mairwen Bevan discovered her husband was having a tryst with one of the settlers." He replaces the letter and does his best to put the drawer back into the desk. "Shall we see if anyone is to be found in any of the other rooms?" Hildigrim heads toward the other doors.
As you approach the door to the right, you hear the rapping of a hammer on nail coming from this room. The din is slow and monotonous, and then stops before you reach the doorway. Peering inside, the scene is still. Planks of wood lay in piles, waiting to be stripped and bent into shape, or chiseled into oars. The workshop appears to be devoted to the creation of canoes.
Quillary notices a journal on the workbench, written in elvish. The canoe maker's name was Gengolor. Nothing else is learned from the journal.
You hear a yelp from Drusk. There is one finished canoe on display, mounted on the wall. The bottom was painted with a glossy black paint. "I was checking my teeth in the reflection, as blurry as it is, when I saw some movement behind me. I turned around, but all of you were over there. I don't see it anymore, but I don't think I was imagining it. Something's moving and it ain't us!"
The party looks around the room, but there is nothing else, beyond the journal, piles of wood, and the canoe-making tools.
