As Rand watches the flood roar past, he reports back to Tarin and Raldaen, "Woah, Salty Joe stood his ground! He just gave the flood his middle finger."
Tarin gawks as Salty Joe takes the brunt of the waves with nary a flinch. "My word!"
Turning to Rand, he nervously harrumphs a bit. "That chimney is a pretty tight space, and it's going to take us more than a few heartbeats to climb up that shaft. And, er, climbing things is not particularly my strong suit."
"I'll leave you my rope and grappling hook here to help you if you want to try it, but I'd better support Salty and Penumbra so they don't take any more arrows." He drops these from his belt for their use. "Either way, good hunting!"
Tarin leaves the wolf kennel and sprints as fast his small legs will carry him to get up to Penumbra and Salty Joe.
Rand weighs the decision on whether to go with Tarin or stay with Raldaen and mutters a curse at his indecision in gnomish under his breath, "Flart Furger!" He decides to stay with Raldaen if he needs him. "Raldaen, do you want me to come with you or go to the others?"
"Yer can lead a charge through that there hole, stop em' comin at me while I shoot. Be like shooting scurvied dogs from the nest again!" Raldaen has a smile on his face as he carefully makes his way up the slope, making the effort to approach as stealthily as possible and hoping Rand can do likewise.
(The narrow fissure leads upwards for about 30 feet. Climbing through is at half-speed, so it will take you two turns. Need you to each make two DC10 Athletics checks. If you roll 6-9, you make no progress on that round. If you roll a 5 or less, you fall, taking 1d6 bludgeoning damage for each 15 feet. So failing the first roll is 1d6, failing the second is 2d6. Plus if Raldean fails the second, he takes Rand down with him ;-). Also, if you are sneaking, roll Stealth.)
Reaching the top of the narrow fissure, you see sacks and crates of looted provisions piled up in the south end of this large cave. A larger opening leads north down a set of natural stone steps, the roar of falling water echoing from beyond. In the middle of the cavern, the coals of a large fire smolder. A bugbear, a wolf, and two goblins are here, looking towards the northern entrance after hearing the flood. There are two stalagmites near the fissure that you could hide behind.

Penumbra, Salty Joe, Tarin, and Bankur (assuming he keeps heading north):
This cavern is half filled with two large pools of water - well, at least there used to be two until the three goblins knocked the retaining wall loose and sent the contents of one of the pools down the passage at you! A narrow waterfall high in the eastern wall feeds the pool, which drains out the western end of the chamber to form the stream that flows out of the cave mouth below. Low fieldstone walls serve as dams holding the water in. A wide exit stands to the south, while two smaller passages lead west. The sound of the waterfall echoes through the cavern, making it difficult to hear.
((OOC - may I take an action before the water hits? If so: ))
Bankur grits his teeth and set his feet firmly into the ground, then points at the onrushing water. A flash of green leaps from his hands towards the water, changing the flow of it and diverting a sizeable portion around his body, sparing him the brunt of the impact.
((OOC: Casting Shape Water in an attempt to divert at least some of the water and lessen (or eliminate) the impact of it on me.
If you roll 6-9, you make no progress on that round. If you roll a 5 or less, you fall, taking 1d6 bludgeoning damage for each 15 feet. So failing the first roll is 1d6, failing the second is 2d6.
Penumbra curses in Internal as she hears the water flood down the passage. She draws her bow and steps back around the corner, she quickly acquires a target and looses her arrow at the nearest goblin.
Tarin pants, wheezing from the exertion of dashing up the stairs. He raises a hand defensively in a circular motion, not quite closing the circle, as he spots the three goblins menacing Penumbra and Salty Joe.
(OOC: Tarin will use his reaction to cast shield if he's hit by any of the goblins. Otherwise, he'll take his initiative-order action after the goblins get to do.)
As Rand moves past Raldaen, the pirate steadies himself and replies to the jibe "Nay lad, just lettin' you poke yer head through that hole first." Then he continues to move up the slope behind the paladin.
Salty Joe jumps on top of the boulder in front of the Green Goblin dripping wet. He pulls out his short sword and says, "Aye, ya booger skinned bastard. Ya wanna dance with Ol' Joe?"Then he gives the gobbo the old stab and slash.
Raldaen jams the torch he was carrying at the bottom of the natural chimney, providing him enough light to climb without having to hold it. He climbs a little more than halfway up before getting stuck...but after taking a moment to survey the rocks he is able to complete the climb up and settles in behind a stalagmite, peering out in the dim light from the glowing coals in the center of the cavern. He sees a pair of yellow eyes looking in his direction, reflecting what little light there is. In the darkness he can just make out the shape of a wolf behind those eyes... Rand follows easily behind Raldaen, also hiding behind the large stalagmite.
The wolf walks slowly over towards your hiding spot, sniffing the air as he comes. It seems to spot Raldaen (your Stealth score was less than the wolf's passive perception score...) and lunges at him, sharp teeth snapping! Attack:6 Damage: 4(If it hits, Raldaen must make a DC11 Str saving throw or be knocked prone.)
(You are both up, with a surprise round on the bugbear and goblins. But not the wolf =)
Salty Joe moves to attack the first goblin (green) he sees with his shortsword (miss) and dagger (hit, but wrong damage dice. 3 damage), cutting the goblin across the cheek.
Penumbra draws her bow and steps back around the corner, quickly acquiring a target and loosing her arrow at the nearest goblin (green), dropping it into the now empty pool.
Bankur is able to cause the water to flow around himself, but can not progress any further into the cave without some kind of light...
The two remaining goblins draw their scimitars and attack Salty Joe, yelling something in goblin as they slash at him! Attack:19 Damage: 4 - Attack:15 Damage: 7
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: @Raldaen - You're right! I was using acrobatics, not athletics. Add three to all those rolls. :) ). @Rhanloi - Can I see or do I need more light? I'm guessing we need light, so I'll use an action to light my torch, drop it, and then attack the wolf.)
Rand sees a pair of yellow eyes, and knows they do not belong to Raldaen. He takes the torch that he had readied and strikes it, immediately dropping it and switches to his sword to attack the wolf (Attack: 16 Damage: 9).
(OOC: Hang on, Salty! I'll try to get there fast as I can!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the goblins slice into Salty causes Tarin to feel momentarily ill at first, then horrified as the bard crumples to the ground.
"No!" gasps the gnome with audible dismay at his companion's collapse.
Tarin steadies himself against the stairwell, still panting from climbing the stairs. He collects himself long enough to shape his hands into a spell, crumpling a fist and scattering it wide, as if throwing a handful of invisible dust to a point just beyond the two goblins, releasing it with a final word. "Essero!"
(OOC: Tarin casts sleep and puts 33 hit points worth of creatures to sleep within a 20-foot radius. I've put a marker at the point he targets, which should reach the four blue and purple goblins if I counted correctly.
It should also reach Salty Joe, but fortunately sleep doesn't affect creatures who are already unconscious.)
He rushes to Salty's side and, unsure what to do, begins applying pressure to the wound. "Hang in there, friend!"(OOC: Tarin plans to make a Medicine check on his next turn to try to stabilize him.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC @ Zercious - You might have to pick between the two - interacting with an object uses your action for a turn, so would forgo an attack, as far as I understand it. @ Rhanloi - Is that a fire pit in the middle of the room? I'll make the following action on the presumption that we can see the wolf at least without any issue, since we were able to determine the goblins and bugbear are there, and they are ~30 ft away)
Dodging the snapping jaws by the barest of margins, he steps back as Rand takes a swing at the wolf and catches it with his blow. Raldaen's preparation pays dividends and allows him to bring his crossbow to bear on the shape of the wolf before letting fly the bolt at close range.
Bankur will make his way North/NorthEast while lighting a torch. "Stand fast friends! I am coming to help!"
((OOC: I think I'm a move or two behind because of my recent posting delays, so I'm going to take the liberty of lighting the torch and moving myself as one action here. Rhan - set me straight if you disagree))

Penumbra sees Salty go down and chokes back the urge to scream, instead she fires another arrow at the closest remaining goblin then runs into the fray stopping just over the vulnerable form of Salty. She draws her daggers, grits her teeth, and hopes she has the skill to stop any killing blows and stay alive herself while doing so.
Attack: 18 Damage: 6
(If the goblins both fall asleep before Penumbra acts she still reacts by firing the arrow and running to Salty, but she will ignore the unconscious goblins and try to stabilize Salty.)
