(sorry, didn't see Pax's last post)

Fireball covers about 40 5'x5' squares, but many of these oozes are Large, so... one Fireball could catch probably about 12-15 oozes.

"Agree, let's return for now. We learned what we could here." Sekkar did not run and was ready to cover the retreat of others.

When Kastix can, he'll just send a fireball into the cavern to catch as many as he can in the blast.

"Who are you?" The cleric shouts in Undercommon towards the cave, and tries to reach the creature with her mind at the same time. "Are you preparing for the great feast on behalf of The Faceless Lord? If that is the case, perhaps we may be able to assist you. We know of another one that is also on the same mission."

Kaylyn initiative 14

Kaylyn calls for Pensive to return to her as she readies her magic to blast any oozes that get too close.  She walks backwards towards the others and closer to the door.

"Didn't the gnomes just tell us they weren't going to let us back through?  If there is this much of a threat to the city right here and its not ready yet, then clearing out the problem before it is ready is the right course of action."

The answer echoes back: Many are called, but few are chosen! Others there are, yes, but we are all shepherds of different flocks. Soon all will be one under the same Lord at the wedding feast! Assist you will, yes, you will! I will call upon thee and all of Blingdenstone to announce our glad tidings of the Faceless Lord at the proper time! Begone!

The oozes move steadily closer, each foot of progress also generating more grasping psuedopods, until they are a scant few feet from the front of the group. Sekkar holds his ground ready to cover any retreat, but the decision to fight or to flee still hangs in the balance...

"It sure is, if you already know how. Do you know how?" Sekkar was not trying to be sarcastic, his question was genuine. Hundreds of oozes plus the huge "mother-ooze" producing them did not seem "fightable" with just blades (or no-matter-how-powerful-but-still-single fire stuff). And gnomes had to be at least warned about the magnitude of the danger. The whole city collectively was more likely to come up with a solution.

Rhayna will slowly step back with her companions. "What is it that you want from Blingdenstone?"

Pax puts her hand on Sekkar's chest, trying to push the lizard man backwards as she begins to retreat, "They're letting us go....we can't defeat them all right now....let's go discuss...come...."

She tries to get the group to back away. 

Sekkar was all for the retreat! Just would prefer to see everyone move together - it seemed Rhayna was caught in the conversation.

(OOC: Rhayna is moving back, and hopefully leaving this place. Trying to find as much info as she can while doing that.)

The group step backwards toward the heavy door while the oozes continue to encroach into the tunnel. There is no answer to Rhayna's final question, but if there was, judging from the amount of oozes here, it is probably "nourishment". The proximity of the approaching oozes finally gets too much for jittery Kastix, and with a word his pointed staff suddenly releases a small flash which travels a short distance into the cavern and then explodes in a huge ball of flame. Light and heat wash over the group but the smell of burning slime is almost enough to cause one to gag. The oozes don't seem to appreciate this kind, and they start to move closer at a faster pace than before. Kaylyn also decides that things are getting a bit too cosy, and releases a few magic blasts of her own. Holes are burned in the tide of approaching slime, and a few yellow spots seem to splatter fairly widely, but if anything it seems like more take their place, and soon the black oozes are even climbing along the walls. Pax and Sekkar are the first to reach the door, and tap rapidly on the metal... but there is no answer.

Pensive, send images to the gnomes of the impending attack!

Assuming there are gnomes within 100 feet, even if they are on the other side of the door, Pensive begins to communicate to these gnomes sending images of the ooze hoard and the party banging on the door trying to get their attention.

"Perhaps a tactical retreat is, in fact, in our best interest!" Kaylyn calls to her fellows.  Louder she yells to the voice "We're going, we're going!"

Pax, seeing that the group is indeed trapped, also lets loose a fireball on the front ranks of the slimes.  24 DC 14 save for half.

Sekkar did not have any fancy fireworks at his disposal, but had a glowing sword to add to the light show:

It is unclear whether Pensive's communication has reached the intended targets, or if it was received but is being ignored. After all, the gnomes did indicate that they would not re-admit the group if they feared any risk to their safety, and the images that Pensive is transmitting certainly convey a terrible risk. Pax fires another fireball with again causes several more oozes to burn and fall apart, but the approaching horde seems to still be drawing closer. Sekkar steps forward and bright sunlight fills the tunnel as Dawnbringer slashes back and forth, barely holding the oozes at bay (although in Sekkar's mind Dawnbringer seems to be enjoying herself).

Finally the sound of locks being disengaged is heard from the door, and in a few moments the heavy door swing inward. The group has to step closer to the oozes to allow room for the door, but they quickly slip back into the Trader's Grotto and help pull the door back into place before, shutting themselves off from the slimy army. The last sound they hear before the door clangs shut is a tittering laughter from deep inside the dark ooze-filled cavern.

"It appears that we have a little bit of a problem people..." Rhyana says, with a great relief after the iron door closes, to no one in particular. "We must alert the chiefs."

Pax lets a shiver run through her whole body that ends with her making a bit of a gagging face.  "Well....that was horrible! Uh...ya....we obviously have to talk to the chiefs....they have an army of slime just on the other side of that big ol' door....what was with the big round talking sphere?  I may have missed it but....is it another demon, or...just like another slime lord?  I'm afraid I don't really understand these things....can we reason with it or send it away?"
