Nothing happens when Tempest attempts the spell. Arcana check to see if you can figure out more.
Gadvelt, you see that the drow that are in the guardhouse quickly grow bored watching the cell and give it only casual glances after a few hours. Eventually, watching long enough, you see that they change shifts around every 8 hours or so. You see the rope bridge is well made and strong, and you hear shifting around from sounds like way below it, which would probably be the giant spiders.

Jimjar reaches up and shakes Tempest's hand. In Undercommon:
Deal! And it's great to hear someone laugh. It's been too long. Jimjar's the name. As to my imprisonment, well, Jimjar always pays his debts. Just sometimes he doesn't have the money right when someone else wants it. You see, I'm a reasonable man, and happy to wait to settle until one of us can pay up. Not everyone has as much sense as me. Can you believe the bastard actually sold me to these tortuous, spider-loving drow? Incredible! If that fool's still in Blingdenstone when I get back... ooooh he'll be in for it then! I'd bet anything on it!
Don sits next to the quaggoth and begins drinking a bowl of broth.
He turns to him and says, in Elvish:
"Prince Derendil, we're working on a way out, and appreciate any aid you can offer. What can you tell me about his place or our captors? Do you know their routines? Have you seen more of this place? I would really like to know where our gear is being stored. It is very important that I get my pack back, and I know Tempest needs her spellbook returned to her. As for the others, I'm sure we'd all be more effective in a fight with our own weapons."
I've only been out of here to do mindless labor. They don't let us anywhere near their equipment rooms, which is where I assume everything is kept. The only one in here that might know is him. He nods towards the brooding drow.

The drow, they speak the fair tongue was well, do they not? They are still elves, twisted and evil as they may be. You're right that he's probably our best bet for information on the working of this place, if he can be trusted, or convinced to talk... Have you spoken with him? How long has he been imprisoned with you all?
Seeing Tempest attempt magic and fail, Egret will pick up a small pebble in his hand, reach out of the cage and attempt to cast Light on the pebble, if it works, he'll quickly close his hand to hide the light, and then draw his hand back in to see if it still works inside the cage.
(OOC, also, would he have felt whether or not his casting of Guidance earlier worked?)
Either way, he'll then grab a bowl of broth and eat with every sign of enjoyment (low standards). As he eats, "Now that they think they've put us in our place, having thwarted an escape attempt while most of us stood by and did nothing, perhaps they'll be overconfident and more lax giving us an opportunity to escape. Or maybe we can get the disgruntled, demoted drow to help us out in revenge against the new guy."
(Also, was he able to make a noose with his rope?)
Don frowns and tries to calm the quaggoth, in elvish:
"Don't give in to the curse. Fight it, friend! I believe you can keep your humanity. Don't draw the guards here before we have a plan for escape. We will get out of here, we just need patience for a little while longer."
Don leaves the quaggoth and approaches the imprisoned drow. Keeping a respectful distance he says, in elvish:
"Greetings elf. I am Don Karnage." Don bows. "Can you tell me why your people have imprisoned you here with us? It seems a great injustice. I seek information about this place and I'm hoping we can help each other."
The quaggoth calms down, and just sits and slumps against the wall, head down.
The drow looks up at you warily, and says in elvish:
They tell me I killed someone. I didn't do it. At least, I don't remember doing it. He starts getting angry as well. And don't you think I'd remember if I did? That's not something you just forget.

Seeing that the Drow is a bit of a short fuse and is obviously concerned with his memory, Don will play along and try and trick him into divulging information. In elvish:
Why yes, I do think that's something you would remember. In fact, it is absurd that they think you could forget such a thing! You aren't having memory problems at all my friend. Lets do a little demonstration to prove just how good your memory is. You tell me the answers to these questions and we'll know for sure that you aren't having memory problems. First, an easy one. What is your name? Second, what happened to the scarred drow that brought us our broth? Third, something a little more complicated. What prevents magic use in this place? And forth, to prove that your spatial memory is good as ever. What is the path from our cell to the storage room where our gear is being kept? Answer these questions and prove once and for all that you didn't kill anyone and forget about it!
The hanging tower, upon further study, is a hollowed out stalactite dropping from the ceiling of the cavern. It connects to the pen you're in by the rope bridge, which looks to be made of spider silk and difficult to cross. The rope bridge is about 30 ft long. You can't really tell what the interior of the tower looks like from here, you can just see the 3 drow in the upper part of it at a window cut out of the rock.
Don, give me a charisma check.

Don sees Egret and Tempest fiddling around, trying to cast magic and will turn back to the quaggoth and ask, in elvish:
Does this cursed form give you access to the magic possessed by others of that kind? Do you know how they are preventing magic in these cells?
Thinking back, you don't remember any signs that the spell worked at all, Egret.
The quaggoth replies:
Some sort of antimagic field they have up. I have no magic anymore. I am nothing but a beast.
The quaggoth starts getting visibly angry, starting to pace around and slam its fist into the rock.
