Butter shrugs and polishes off whatever was left in his waterskin.
Seth stows another finger in his pack. "Now THAT'S how the Saltmarsh Guard operates. The long arm of the Crown!" he crows. He pats Butter on the back and swings his sword through air, killing another couple of imaginary enemies.
Seth's crowing threatens to shatter Peri's calm. He moves his [spell]mage hand[/skill] holding its torch into the tunnel ahead of him and turns down the passage to the room where the guards killed the bald bandit. He is mostly just distancing himself from the idiot guard, but will take the opportunity to look around the room, focusing his mind on the task rather than dwelling on his own thoughts.
(He leaves the hobgoblin's armor alone, as he has no use for it. Perhaps one of his companions can use it?)
Dwal will look at Seth with disgust and will turn away from the human. He will go to the others and say: "I found these on Sanbalet.' He will present the items to the group. " I am not sure what they are or what significance they hold but we should find out what this key opens."
Peri wanders down the passage where the guards killed the bald bandit. It terminates in a dark, roughly circular, naturally formed, and quite empty cavern, about twenty-five feet in diameter.
Missy stares at Sanbalets dead body. It's not that she thought he didn't deserve this, he was a bad person and this was what they'd come to do. But... the whole situation felt very unsatisfying. Not to mention Seth's exuberance and Butter's nonchalance over murdering someone who'd basically surrendered. Despite what Seth claimed, it didn't feel very... guard-ly.
She does look up at Dwal as he approaches and holds out the items.
"I could cast detect magic on these and see if they come up as anything. That would take 10 minutes though. Otherwise, I guess there are those other paths we haven't checked out and the room upstairs."
Pull yourself together man. He stands. Composing himself he turns towards the crates against the southern wall. "Anyone got a crowbar" he shouts as he attempts to open the first one. The crates providing a focus for his hands while he gets himself into the right frame of mind.
There are five bolts of silk here, of some value. There are eight casks - not crates - here. One has been tapped, and Butter is already refilling his skin with what smells like brandy. They look like high-quality casks, and Butter seems pleased with whatever is coming out of them.
All is quiet. You hear the sound of surf coming from the unexplored tunnel just outside this cavern.
Seth stands, grimacing at the substantial burns he received from Sanbalet. "You magic types take your little naps," he announces. "Butter! Farley! Let's go see what else we can kill. Missy - do your magic..." (he waves his hands uncertainly) "...thing." Seth lead the two guardsman around the corner and down the steeply-sloping passage.
Peri will walk into the westernmost cavern and give it a quick look-around to be sure nothing nasty is in there, then set the torch down and sit in the middle of the chamber. He will run through some meditation exercises to clear his mind and decide how to proceed. Dwal and Qivys seem like typically honorable dwarves. Yes, Dwal blasted Sanbalet, but it looked like we were fighting so he reacted, and when he saw that Sanbalet had indeed surrendered he honored that. He's solid. As for the Town Guard? Missy and Farley seem good enough. Who knows how Butter is when he's sober? Probably hasn't been in years. And Seth? His recklessness is his business, even if it'll probably get his men killed someday. But attacking a prisoner is inexcusable. It's not your place to judge them, though, so when we get back to town you can report them to Farbern. He will punish them or not, and you will have to live with his decision. His mind calmed, he will take up his torch and rejoin the others.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peri wanders into the westernmost cavern. This uneven, naturally formed cave is about twenty feet in diameter. He gives it a quick look-around. Perception: 19 - and notices that a roughly 5-by-10 foot patch of the ceiling is covered with a bright green, patchy, wet, slime.
Not being one for brandy, Qiv leaves Butter to his vice. He heads to the ashes of the hobgoblin to check it's remains.
(I know Peri checked, but I wasn't sure if Qiv was in a position to know this. Plus, I think I'm becoming a bit of a loot lover. Shiny scale mail sounds pretty)
Seth, Butter, and Farley have disappeared down the steeply sloping, slippery passage to the south, but you can still hear Seth's voice as he crows about some conquest or other to the other two. It goes on for awhile.
Peri rejoins Qivys, Dwal, and Missy in the storage cavern. "So what's the plan? We've done all we set out to do. Sanbalet is dead, your friends avenged, and their bodies are ready to be recovered when we go back up. Is there any reason to stick with those fools any longer? No offense intended, miss."
Picking up the scale mail he realises that carrying three separate suits of armour is a little absurd. Seeing as his only intention for the chainmail was to sell it at the Dwarven Anvil, he decides that the finely crafted scale is a better choice. He unceremoniously dumps the chain onto the hobgoblin ashes.
Back at the cavern with the others he listens to Peri's question and responds "As much as I can't stand these "guards" I gave my word to Farbern, I can't go back on that now. I vote to follow Seth."
The passage declines steeply, and coarse matting has been laid in places on the floor to negate some of the slope’s slipperiness. It widens to the south to form a small cavern. There are three bolts of cloth and five small casks in the middle of the floor, resting on a piece of coarse matting. They look identical to those in the first cavern.
From here, a cave opens directly to the sea. The tide is out at present, and there is little water in the cave, but there is an obvious high-water mark three feet above the floor. Pulled up onto the sloping cave floor is a small boat, perhaps large enough for about eight people, with oars, a step-down mast, and a neatly furled sail. A rope tied to the bow is being held down by a large boulder that serves as an anchor.
Seth, Butter, and Farley are hashing out a plan to split the party - some will return by this boat with the silk and brandy; the others will carry the bodies home over land using the cart.
Farley stares blankly.

Dwal
Dwal will go to each of the bodies of the dead and say a short prayer over them.
"May ye return to the forge that made ye and be refined."
After that he will sit down away from the bodies: "I would like to take time and rest and regain me spells." he says. "it won't be but a short while."
Seth stands, grimacing at the substantial burns he received from Sanbalet. "You magic types take your little naps," he announces. "Butter! Farley! Let's go see what else we can kill. Peri doesn't trust the slime so he moves back to the bottom of the steps to do his meditation.
(I feel like I just got chastised. :) )

(...We never chastise here! :) But fair warning before you open a brandy cask with a crowbar, unless you're very thirsty!...)
Qivys pulls the scaly scale mail from the hobgoblin's remains. Unlike the hobgoblin, it's in perfect condition.

Farley walks in leisurely, counts the casks and the bolts of silk, and then disappears back down the tunnel again.
Peri:
"All right, then. Let's see what our brilliant investigators have turned up." He follows Farley down the tunnel.
