"Did you ever hear of Dank Shufflebeard?"Kei begins the tale of a most sour of dwarf in reply to Dwal's complaint. "One of the worst thieves back in the Styes. Silent as an elf. You wouldn't believe it. But always got knabbed. It was the stench. He never bathed you see".
His unusual story offer Dwal some inspiration. Perhaps he too could be silent.
((Nature check 16 for what Peri might know of trolls))
He knows they're tough, and they're evil, and they regenerate.
The party starts to carefully back away – this may eat up more of your time, and your daylight, but it may save you an ugly battle.
Make a DC 12 Stealth check, with advantage from Valignat's marsh knowledge. (Except Dwal, but he may take inspiration from Kei's tale of sneaky dwarves.)
Oceanus: 9 Valignat: 19
"Fyrirgefðu!" says Oceanus sheepishly, after he steps on a loudly cracking stick.
Whoops!
(I guess you don't need to roll stealth, now...)
The trolls freeze, and squint in your direction. They both lift their ugly snouts into the air and smell deeply. Perception: 12, 14
They look at each other, grumble, and bound through the brush in your direction.
They are about 30 feet away, but the terrain is difficult.
"Damn sea elf!"He curses the misstep of Oceanus. Stealth was something that came naturally to the shady bard. He couldn't understand how people made so much noise.
The rustling of twigs and brush give him an idea. "Let's see if these trolls make as much noise while floating above the ground?.!"
He plucks at the strings of his cittern in an upwards scale. The smallest looking troll begins to lift into the air. "Up you ugly beast. UP."

One of the trolls happens to be rather small relative to the other. Aged, by the looks of it. Still, barely within the 500 lb limit of Kei's spell. Con Save: 11
Unfortunately, trolls have rather extraordinary constitutions.
"Stay near," mutters Valignat to Peri as he steps forward and holds up his spiked shield in front of Peri and himself, bracing for attack. (Dodge.)
Still muttering apologies, Oceanus stands his ground and fires his crossbow at the larger troll. Light Crossbow Attack: 6 Piercing damage: 4
Oceanus' bolt misses completely.
The trolls charge forward, clumsily smashing through the undergrowth, their ugly jaws snapping and their claws slashing the air. (Dash.) They manage to flank Valignat; the smaller troll is now next to Peri.
Bjorn attempts to sting the larger troll. Sting Attack: 14 Piercing damage: 6
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peri:
Peri jabs his spear into the smaller troll (25 for 6). He snaps a pair of kicks into its legs (11 for 4 and 19 for 5) and uses the impetus to push himself away (Disengage) from the troll. "Back away!" he shouts, retreating as far as he can from the trolls (45', unless it's still difficult terrain). He knows they are dangerous in melee but have no ranged attacks. "Stay out of their reach and kill them!"

Gerrard:
Moving in to flank the troll that Dwal just fried with his fire bolts, Gerrard unleashes a torrent of strikes at it, stabbing repeatedly and trying to take it down before it can unload on Valignat!

Gerrard steps forward and mercilessly slashes the big troll. It takes an enormous amount of damage but continues its charge unabated. Nevertheless, Gerrard has most certainly gotten its attention.
Peri similarly dishes out a painful flurry of attacks on the smaller troll before retreating, with difficulty, into the swamp.
Dwal hurls a pair of flaming missiles at the big troll before diving away.
Valignat is left alone, flanked by both trolls. (Gerrard is on the opposite side of the big troll.)
Kei may act next. He is 10 feet from the big troll, 15 feet from the smaller one. Both trolls are seriously wounded, especially the larger one.
"Damn heavy buggers."His attempt to take one out of the fight unsuccessful, he watches as the rest of the party deliver an almighty succession of blows. He slings his cittern across his back and stares down the large troll, sizing it up.
"Are you sure you're a troll? Not just a bag of bones covered in green goo. I mean you don't seem so scary to me." The insult, while poorly formed, was laced with a subtle magic.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The troll pays little attention to the mocking bard, but the infused magic does its work nonetheless. Wisdom save: 4
Valignant, surrounded by the massive creatures, delivers a pair of blows to the big one with his morningstar and spiked shield again. Morningstar Attack: 5 Piercing damage: 3 Spiked Shield Attack: 10 Piercing damage: 5
Oceanus charges the big one with his trident, holding it over his head with both hands: Trident Attack: 19 Piercing damage: 10
And with that, the big troll goes down, a trident through its chest, battered, slashed, and still sizzling from Dwal's bolts. It is dead.
The smaller troll roars with anger, and you see Peri's spear wound begin to seal over and heal before your eyes. It turns its attention on Valignat:
It bites deeply into Valigant's shoulder, and he hisses in pain.
Bjorn circles and attempts to sting the remaining troll on the back of its neck: Sting Attack: 6. Piercing damage: 5
Bjorn again fails to puncture the thick troll hide. Gerrard, Peri, and Dwal may act next, then Kei. Gerrard and Kei are 15' S, Peri is a little over 20' SE, and Dwal is 20' E, all through difficult muck, from the remaining angry troll.

Gerrard:
Slogging over to the remaining troll, Gerrard stands shoulder to shoulder with Valignat on his left. Stabbing repeatedly at the troll's left arm, he tries to damage that limb so much that the fearsome foe can no longer attack with it!
OOC: Attempting the Disarm Combat Maneuver -- since the creature is only using natural weapons, it will likely just add a bit of damage and do nothing else by the rules, but it is good for combat flavor.

Gerrard strides forward across tufts of swamp grass and holds ground next to Valignant. He manages to connect with two of his three blows, taking several fingers off the troll's left hand in the process. It shrieks as yellow blood oozes thickly from its wounds. "GFHOR!" it shouts. (Anyone speak Giant?)
"Guess we're not runnin' then..."Peri grumbles. He gestures at the troll, and a burst of blue faerie fire flares around it (positioned to not catch any friendlies -- DC 13). He edges forward, 15' from the troll, keeping out of its reach but near enough for his own strike.

Bjorn still has no luck piercing its thick, nasty hide.
