Torment turns her head towards the noise coming from the establishment that Ruby just pointed to. "Ugh, so rowdy. Probably crowded, lots of people, and it sounds like someone is attempting to play an instrument. Poorly." Torment rolls up her sleeves, shoulders her pack and viol, and heads toward the building. "My kind of people! Yes, Elemoth, to the Ugly Duckling we go. Let's talk to Izzy."
(Let me know if it's too long and you need a summary, I've reserved a 3rd post slot just for that.)
EDIT: (To clarify, if you're in this thread, you're invited to my game. This includes the people that can't post right now because of the Hurricane or other reasons. When you guys come back, you can hop into my game too if you want)
Shadow takes a deep drag of his pipe. He let's out a sigh, "Very well, I could use a drink to ease my nerves." He checks his belongings to make sure everything is secure, and then heads to the Ugly Duckling with the rest of the party.
Flame visibly relaxes when Elemoth begins speaking to the woman. "I suppose I can't assume anything of the people down here. She seemed friendly enough in spite of her choice of home."
Flame follows along on the way to the tavern. "Shadow, I swear to the gods if you take another drink, I will put a hole in the bottom of your mouth. Has anyone ever heard of a 'glyph key' before? Seems we'll need one of those before we can really get started."
Shadow scoffs at his brothers words. "Who does he think he? My father? I'll just have to be sneaky about it." Shadow looks at Flame and squints his eyes, "Sure thing, Father."
Excuse my ignorance. I play D&D weekly at a local game shop. I heard about D&D beyond and took a look. Your reference to roll20 confused me. Am I correct in understand then D&D beyond is JUST the various D&D published books (or parts of books) you can purchase online and the game itself must be played on another site like roll20?

I am not understanding the interplay here....
Thanks, Chuck
Currently, we're using D&D Beyond as a forum, while Roll20 can be used as a way to map out a dungeon and what not. It's simply so that the players can visualize where they are and who they are facing. Roll20 will be used once they actually enter the dungeon itself.
You all walk towards the inn, all shapes and sizes of hooded people rush past bumping and shoving as they travel swiftly. You pass by some kids and a woman playing some weird game of basket-soccer, kobolds selling vials of some green liquid, deep dwarves smashing several weapons and armor in some kind of makeshift smithy, goblins yelling about some kind of miracle fruit, one or two guards, who are dozing off behind a table with a signs that read: "SERVE YOUR CITY TODAY! JOIN THE WATERDEEP GUARD!" or "WE NEED YOU! TO BE A GUARD!" and "WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN THE GUARDSLEEP ALL DAY" the latter part is crossed out and several small hooded creatures have written over it as well as drawn mustaches upon the faces of the guards. As one suddenly rouses and looks around and shoos the creatures away, only to begin laughing at his compatriot until he realizes what has happened to himself as well. Suddenly Torment feels someone grab her shoulder.
Torment only:
She instinctively turns towards them, ready to attack until she realizes it's simply an old man... but as she gains her bearings she sees that it is an incredibly ancient elf. Knobbly knees and a blindfold over his wrinkled face and messy white hair identify just how old he is for an elf. Nevertheless, he moves with astounding speed and grabs your hand quickly moving his lips in rapid succession. It is then when you manage to pick up something. He is actually talking, but very rapidly and in very hushed tones (so it's very hard to hear over the loud noise of the hustle and bustle) "N-not the green. Never the green. Shun the green. Flee th-the green." Right as the ancient elf says those things he begins to continue, but Torment is slammed into by a humongous traveler, causing for her to lose her bearings for a moment, and as she refocusses she finds that he is (cliche, I know) gone. And yet she still hears his voice in her head, except it sounds calmer and more composed: "Three entrances, dire, are all disguised, But to enter you must compromise."
Also as she opens her hands she finds a single glittering sapphire in her hand... given to her by the elf.
Meanwhile, the rest of you head to the Ugly Duckling. A man with a full head of hair and maroon dirt-stained rags sits in front of the tavern as he looks up towards you and says in a hoarse and foreign voice. "Please... I just require the money. Your gods will be blessing you." as he holds out a small wooden bowl.
OOC: I'll leave this up for around a day or so. Also, I apologize for the delay, I've been away at a convention unable to post (and I thought I would find time, but I was busy the whole day).
Elemoth raises an eyebrow as he passes the sleeping guards and the altered sign, wondering how and why they seem to be being so lackadaisical given how many of their fellow both risked and lost their lives in the chaos above so recently. Shaking his head, he moves on until he sees the beggar, and reaches into his pouch and offers him a single silver. "My god has already blessed me more than I have expected recently, so allow me to pass this blessing onto you." he says as he pays the beggar.
(OOC: It's alright by me, I figured you were busy and that it was something like that)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Torment stumbles a bit, clutching something to her chest to avoid dropping it. "Well, that was odd. Not sure of the tune, but the rhyming scheme was very nice. Maybe I can use that later."She mumbles something to herself a few times to commit it to memory. She then inspects the object in her hand a little closer. (Investigation on the Sapphire 17, and maybe Arcana11, for any magic properties?).
Shadow lets out a chuckle as he sees the vandalized signs, and the sleeping guard. "This is such a strange place. I like it."
"Please... I just require the money. Your gods will be blessing you." Shadow eyes the man with curiosity, but quickly digs out a gold coin. He kneels down and drops the coin in the bowl. "Here you go sir, but the gods have forsaken me a long time ago."He stands back up and makes his way in The Ugly Duckling.
Flame follows along and drops a gold coin in the bowl with a nod toward the man, being sure to make eye contact. "Being a beggar must be hard enough, but begging in this retched place must be dreadful. This could easily be my brother and I if we hadn't found work."
Unsure of himself, but wanting to help in some other way, Flame internally, hesitantly, prays for the first time to Lathander, the only god that he has seen demonstrate power to this point. "Guide him to fortune, Lathander. Gods know - er- you know he needs it."
"Don't give him too much coin or he will become a target in this wretched place." Marion whispers to the others. Immediately feeling bad for not giving him something, she turns around and uses Prestidigitation to clean the worst of his clothes with a snip of her fingers.
As you all bend down to add the coin to the beggar's bowl you notice something. Just under his messy head of hair the dirt-stained ragged man has strange black tattoos etched into his forehead. As he sees you looking at this he immediately backs away and spouts out quickly: "May the gods be blessing you!" You do not have any time to dwell on this strange occurance; however, as you are quickly shoved into the tavern by several anxious patrons.
For Torment:
The gem has no apparent magical qualities, and as you investigate it closer it seems to be very light for its size. It is around large enough to fit your hand around, but at the same time it is not very dense, so while it is certainly worth something... it might not be as much as one thinks for a sapphire the size of your fist.
For Marion:
As you begin to wave your arms as the somatic components for the spell, the beggar quickly freezes and raises his arms in a coward's position. Except, as soon as he begins to hear the words he becomes less frightened (note, this is when the words are spoken, not the actual effect of the spell). Eventually, his brown dirt-stained rags become red with black ends in certain places. You don't have too much time to think on this though, as the anxious patrons of the tavern shove you inside.
You all eventually get inside of the tavern. As you enter you look around and see - CRASH - a muscular damaran man with a beard lands on a table right next to you, breaking it. As your eyes immediately jump to where he came from you see a half-orc woman standing triumphant. She bears many scars, but her strength is also very clear. She then calls towards him "That'll teach ya'. Hah, 'I could beat any lass in combat' he says. Whadda ya' know... guess ya' can't. Proves I don't need 'em darned Stone Toothers." She mentions the last part a bit to herself, only to then spit on his face while he lets a strangled groan. Behind him, a gaggle of giggling gnomes gasps as they show a hand of cards while a young Tethyrian man looks utterly shocked as his full house is beaten by four of a kind (aces). The rock gnomes with gadgets galore greedily grab the copper and silver on the table raking it towards them, while you notice that behind one gnome's back are several cards hidden from view. Next to that table, you hear a thunk as a red-faced halfling collapses on top of the table. Several empty glasses lie in front of him, while right next to him a dwarf with scars (if anyone is proficient in medicine, please make me a medicine check) and in front of her lies a pile of at least ten empty mugs. She proceeds to lean back in her chair while the halfling pleasantly snores. Then, once she is satisfied with her victory she leaps on to the table and shouts out: "Tha' blood o' Durgeddin flows through me veins, ye thought ye could beat me... Geddi? You have'nae a clue. (she then addresses the whole tavern) Why I'd bet ten goblin 'eads nobody in 'ere could beat me!" (A goblin in the back growls at hearing this) As people begin to line up in a drinking contest against the dwarf you notice that behind her is a very pale half-elven woman dressed all in white, except for some red dye on her robes (if anyone is proficient in perception or investigation, please give me a check [one for each if you're proficient in both]). She seems to stare off into space, a starry-eyed expression adorning her face. She is entirely ambivalent to the chaos that inhabits this inn. In the farthest corner of the room you see a gnome who seems to be working on a project of some kind. She wears several gadgets and gizmos as she analyzes a strange metal box with compartments and buttons. She slides one of the compartments open and deposits some dust inside of it. She then proceeds to close said compartment. She then presses a button as the the box courses with energy. She begins to look excited, but upon opening the box and pulling out a dead rat her eagerness is instantly quenched. She then continues tinkering with the box.
Your attention is suddenly stolen by a small but exuberant halfling who stands behind the bar with a jovial look on his face. As he sees all of you he immediately jumps up and down excitedly and beckons you over towards an empty chair.
OOC: Sorry for the late reply, my browser quit and it removed my almost entirely finished post (I was literally on post reply). Anyway, hope that you guys enjoy :D.
Torment pockets the odd gem, making another mental note to have someone cast identify on it later.
Taking in the rambunctious activity of the bar, Torment side steps the action, and quietly observes from the offered seat, paying special attention to the gnome with a mechanical box.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: It's all good, I've had that happen to me before too. And yes, I really like this description of this boisterous tavern, lot of interesting details going on)
Elemoth looks around with widened eyes as he enters the tavern, marveling at all the different kinds of activity going on, and the wide variety of interesting people in it, including goblins of all things. His eyes linger on the scarred dwarf for a moment, as well as the other half-elf in the room (or at least the first one he's seen) and in particular at the dye stains on her robe, as odd red stains on otherwise white clothes seems like an odd thing to him.
(Medicine Check: 15, Perception Check: 15)
He arches an eyebrow and stares a moment at the gnome with the box, wondering how someone could turn dust into a dead rat, when the halfling starts getting the party's attention. He wanders over to see what the man wants.
