Sael diced the last spider up into many small pieces.
Combat is over. The room has gone quiet except for the slight sound of wind outside of the arrow slits on the front side of the building overlooking the entrance. Once again, you are able to notice the features of the room now that you're no longer under threat.
You're in a large chamber that extends over the outer gauntlet of the main entrance and contains many former defensive measures. Arrow slits to the north allow outside light to enter, filling the northern half of the room with sunlight or moonlight depending on the time of day or night.
Thick webs are strung between the walls and pillars where the giant spiders used to be.
Other items that looked to be defensive in nature include two fireplaces, which were probably used to heat cauldrons full of oil that the dwarves likely poured through narrow slits in the floor. Three empty cauldrons are lined up along one of these slits. Arrow slits along the south wall open up onto another area of the stronghold, and stone staircases descend from where you came from.
There is also a door over on the western wall that no one has gone through, yet, and there are tunnels that no one has explored.
The group heads west and opens up the closed door. Inside, you see a fireplace that is built into the west wall of this room. Hanging from a hook above its mantelpiece is a steel shield bearing the symbol of Axeholm: a dwarven gauntlet clutching a handaxe.
Andrømeda steps into the room, up to the shield. "Should vi take it?" She gives it a tap with the knuckles of her left hand. "Den may be of some sentiment, if vi find any survivors."

If you think my puns are bad, I'll remind you, my profile pic says otherwise.
"If only we could find a light weapon that would deal more damage then these," says Sael, holding up her handaxes.
"Doesn't look like there's much else here. I say we explore the back, or those dug tunnels if we're looking for survivors."

So, where do you all want to go from here? (You'll have to use a previous map for reference, because right now, I'm in a hotel on vacation with my family and the hotel internet isn't quite good enough to upload images.)
"So, not the tunnels then..." says Sael, who shrugs and then follows Andrømeda down the stairs.

Alright, so the lot of you walk down the stairs into a room the mirrors the one on the other side of the entrance. It contains seven ballistas pointed at arrow slits, a winch that raises and lowers the portcullis, and each ballista has 5 arrows.
From here, there's only one door, or it's head back upstairs.

So, you all walk out of the west door, then take the hallway south until it opens up into a foyer-like room with a set of double-doors leading back into the main room of the fortress, then four other doors that you haven't been through, yet. The floor is strewn with bits of armor and the gnawed bones of dwarves who were killed and eaten by ghouls.
Sweet. So, I don't have access to my computer right this second, so I won't be able to update the map, but there first door to your right, when you open it, appears to have been the armory.
All the weapons and armor from this area are gone. All that remains are empty stone weapon racks, wooden mannequins upon which armor once hung, and iron hooks in the walls that once bore shields.

Andrømeda takes a moment to wipe the spider juice off her weapon, looking around the area. "Wie do vi go now? De door, or down again?"
“It makes sense to me that we explore the original parts first, then any new tunnels.” Rush heads for the door, waiting for any objections

Andrømeda shrugs. "As good as any other place, ja?" She exits the room, walking to the nearby staircase to return to the lower floor.
"So, not the tunnels then..." says Sael, who shrugs and then follows Andrømeda down the stairs.
