Germain moves up and nods politely to the elderly man, "As we have come from opposite directions, perhaps we could share information of the road ahead for each of us?"
"Seems like a good idea in these times." The old man says with a nod. "I heard there were some issues with a blue dragon, back down the trail you are traveling, near Greenest, any news about that?" The man smiles as he looks you over, his eyes landing on Taviel longer than most.
Germain nods, but but tries the reassuring smile he'd sometimes give nervous patients, it definitely looks practiced rather than natural, "There was indeed, though we arrived after the attack. The city is recovering and the threat seems to have moved on for now. It seems there is some kind of group working with chromatic dragons to raid the area. I'd advise a certain amount of caution traveling that way. May I ask if you've heard any news of that nature from the other direction?
"More of the same." The old man says, eyes moving from Taviel back to Germain. "Not with any of the chromatics, as you call them, showing their faces, but some reports of the cult of the dragon hitting small villages and looting them."
"The raids were a few days back, the most recent anyway." The old man says with a nod to Toc. "From what I've heard they seem to have dropped off after that, with the cult members seeming to be on the move." He grips his walking staff as he glances down the road in the direction he was headed. "I best get on getting along." He says with a nod to the group, eyes staying on Taviel for a moment longer than the others. He pauses then, before moving off. "I have heard that some hobgoblins are working in this area recently, but am not appraised of their intentions. I'd be watchful if I were you, they seem intent on finding something... or someone."
Normally Taviel would not pay much attention to the stranger's interest to her - of course he was interested - but not this time. Taviel trusted her feelings and right now they were screaming "it can be the Gold!". Well, she was no bloodhound but never complained about her sense of smell either, all she needed is a close enough distance. She dismounted and walked to the old man, looking intently and smiling "Wait, good man, if you cautious of hobgoblins, you are heading in the wrong direction. We saw one just this morning in Silverspan." She stepped as close as she could while keeping at least a semblance of decency and took a deep breath (she could not just sniff if the man smelled of saffron, could she?). "Can it be the one they are looking for is you?"
The old man lets Taviel approach, but seems more amused than anything at her suggestion that the hobgoblins are after him. "I have nothing to fear from the likes of a band of hobgoblins." He says, a bit of arrogonce coming into his voice. "He holds Taviel's eyes for a long moment and she sees gold specks floating within those orbs for just an instant. "Take care of yourself little one..." he says in a soft voice, though does not try to keep the others from overhearing. "You tread a dangerous path just now, and know the black ones you saved from the cavern will be given a chance to grow up, thanks to you. I can't say what will become of them once they are older, but they have a chance to be whatever they will become now." He holds her eyes for another long moment. "Our paths are not together right now, but return here after all is done and I will be glad to talk with you further..."
Giving the group a nod the old man then turns and starts down the road again.
Naroth waves to the old man, "Travel safe old one." Then nudges his horse in the direction north and waits for the others. One the old man is out of earshot he moves up next to Taviel, "Pray be cautious approaching one not of our group, you can never know when evil might strike, an dI will not lose another."
The rest of that day passes without incident. You travel a good distance, then set up camp once more. Are we using the same watch schedule? If so it will be:
Taviel, then Naroth, then Germain w Toc, then Toc. If anyone has any issues with this then let me know.

Please give me perception checks for your watch. You can do so with advantage if you have someone helping you on your watch, such as animal companions, servant, or other PCs.
Taviel ignored gossips on the background - in front of her was standing the real true (she just knew it!) transformed Golden Dragon! Soooo many questions! So much excitement! She could name ten wizards from the top of her head, who would give their right arm for a chance like this - and yet she had to keep silent and retreat, because the great one did not feel like talking right now! "Tantalizing" did not even begin to describe the feeling. Taviel smiled stoically: "Then I will see you later. Safe travel to you." She bowed her head politely and return to her horse, absentmindedly nodding to Naroth's words. "Looks like we are doing it by ourselves. Still, nice to know that the territory is watched." For the next few hours she was quiets and lost in thoughts.
During your watch Toc hears some rustling in the grasses around the camp sight. He is just looking around to find the source, when a curse is heard as someone startles up a small bird that was sleeping in the grass near the camp. Germain and Toc instantly realize someone, probably multiple someones, are approaching the camp under the cover of night.
Everyone Roll initiative, only Toc and Germain may act at this point.

Taviel...
The old man seems more interested in you than the others in your group for some reason. You would sense a kinship to this man for some reason.
