Having been rebuffed several times already during the journey for attempting to talk some sense into the man regarding caring for his animals, Toc stands back....and watches sadly as the horse is kicked. Then something in his mind snaps and with a grim look on his face he walks forward, "Hey now! Kicking the animal you directly put into such a sorry state is cruel and unjust. You should be the one being kicked. Cease that this instant."
Toc moves forward, his hand on his hilt. He glances to the guard and the wizard, "I'm unsure what he pays you to put up with witnessing such hideous cruelty, but I hope you're now realizing it's not enough."

What's the difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer? Class.
The sound of the commotion was not the sound of battle and a moron that destroys his own property by himself, in the middle of nowhere, without the ability to replace it was not her concern. Toc was, though, to some degree. Too bad she could not send him a message. So, she just kept an eye on the happening without interfering.
"Mind your own business." The knight says as he steps between Toc and his employer. He looks like a hard, and cruel, man himself, clearly not put out by the horses's screams, but looking to take pleasure from them. He is the type of man a cruel, and sadistic, man like Bran would hire, someone who would not turn against him for the meer beating of a useless nag like this one. The mage, on the other hand, does not seem to be pleased by his employer's antics, but also stays between Toc and the noble, clearly his pay is enough to get him to put up with whatever his boss wants, at least for now.
Ulric moves up next to Toc, "That is enough. What you wish to do to your animals on your own time is your business. You have made this the entire caravans business by holding us all up. Stop this cruelty at once you pampered fool!"
"Mr. Holdgate..." The mage says, moving in to stand nearer the noble. "This may not be the best time for this." He informs his employer. "Unless you wish to have me and Aanan fight the other guards, we may wish to continue moving..."
The knight frowns back at the mage, but also looks a bit concerned now that both Ulric and Toc are confronting them.
Bran glances up from the horse, which is now on the ground, almost pulling the second horse down with it, that horse in barely better condition. Bran grunts in annoyance. "Commoners should leave things to their betters." he growls, but stands up. Glaring down at the barely-breathing horse, he shrugs. Then he leans down and cuts it loose from its harness. "Worthless pile of meat anyway." he says and moves back to his wagon. The knight and mage follow him a bit slower, but soon the noble is having the knight force the single remaining horse to pull the wagon by itself. The second horse is left for dead on the road.
Unsure how much good it will really do, Germain briefly lays a hand on the horse’s side as he passes, channeling some energy through his gauntlet into it, before he continues on his way.
The horse regains its feet as Germain moves on, looking no longer on the brink of death. It wickers softly and follows Germain. The horse is still skin and bones, having been malnurished for 35 days, and shows sores from the harness and whip, scars that were long healed before Germain's healing.
Germain’s acquirement of his new horse confuses him slightly, as he’s not used to them. But he seeks out Edhelri (she’s the one who really liked the animals right?) and request her assistance with his new acquisition.
Toc watches the scene around him unfold rapidly until Germain is left with the worn and sorry animal. Satisfied with the outcome, he turns back to his usual position trailing behind the caravan.

Watching from afar, Naroth glares at the knight and makes a mental note, to deal with him as well. Adding more people to his list of people he has started that will need a "talking" to.
The rest of that day passes uneventfully. Bran attempts to get the horse back from Germain, but the other caravan merchants push for him to be refused, and Loren does refuse him. Germain finds help from the horse trainer wagoneer, who helps him with getting the horse back into better condition. They explain it is not simply to start feeding the animal, but to do so slowly, so as not to get it sick from the influx in food. He is also given some salve to rub into the scars and old wounds of the horse, to help it heal as much as possible.
That night you camp out again, but nothing different happens.
The next day you travel a bit further, then take a side road to the town of Nightstone. A huge Ebony-black stone sits in the center of this town, which you need to cross a drawbridge to reach. Several towers are built into the wall around the town, and a fortified manner sits atop the hill, a bridge connecting town to manner.
The next morning you all wake to a killing. One of the cultists acting as a wagon guard was murdered overnight. He was stabbed in the back with a sword (the wound is too big to be from a dagger) and left where he fell beneath a cult wagon. The dead man’s companions immediately accuse Toc and demand to inspect his weapons.
Many footprints are around the wagon, but give me an Intelligence (Investigation) check to see if you notice anything about them...
Germain You notice that the tracks around the body all are from those gathering that morning. There are no tracks from the previous night, or, for that matter, for anything before that. It appears the area was wiped clean of tracks sometime after the killing.
"If you did not do it, then show us you blades." One of the cultists says back. "Hand it over and we'll see if it matches the wound." He hold sout a hand for the blade.
"Oh stow it." A voice calls from the crowd that has gathered. Another voice joins in, several of the caravan members rising to Toc's defense.
Loren comes to the front of the group, looking angry, as she looks over the body, and the crowd. "Please get back to your own wagons." She orders everyone. Turning to the cultists. "If you have proof, other than the foolish idea of matching the blade to the wound, then you can speak with me privately about it, otherwise stop pointing fingers."
The crowd starts to disperse, with Loren staying to speak with the cultists. You hear her ask to see the content of the wagons, to help the cultists make sure nothing was stolen. At that the cultists wave her away, informing her that nothing was stolen, and that they are sure it was just a stupid accident, nothing more.
Jos steps forward then, moving to speak with Loren. "Honestly, I think it was likely someone not even related to this caravan." He informs the caravan leader. "I saw Thom there speaking with some lads from town last night, and the talking was getting pretty heated." he shrugged. "Likely just a bad decision that went wrong on Thom's part, and those locals and him got into it. Thom had a bad temper you see, and I would not be surprised to learn he picked a fight with someone he shouldn't have." This is more words than anyone has heard from Jos for this entire trip. Loren seems to doubt his words, but seems willing to let it go at that.
