Ines gives Jonah a confused glanced, having no idea why he's talking about the seasons, then jerks her head back around to Ervalin. "A Fey spirit? Oh... uhm... wow" She looks up for the owl with wonder then after nearly tripping over a rock focusing back on their path.

Grimadim
Conen made sense. The two seemed to know their way around a hunt equally. "Ok. I will walk the path with you Ranger. Four eyes always better than two."Grim falls in step with Conen, just a half pace behind. He turns to the wizard "You owl is very strange. Does not smell like normal bird. Acts very strange."He is oblivious to magically conjured creatures having never seen one. With a shake of his head he turns his eyes back to the trail.
Jonan sees a pack of 3 wolves about 500 feet ahead run from the general direction you are going. They stop, and perk their heads and ears up and take note of you for a second before darting off into the wood to the left. You see something much further out fly close to the ground and disappear from you view at the distance.
You all continue carrying along the trail and know you are close because you can see the windmill crest into view. As you come closer you see a large monstrosity at the front door of the windmill. I t has the body and mane of a large cat, bat like wings, a spiked tail, a man like face. The body of the monstrosity has a gash along the left shoulder and is favoring said shoulder, lifting the paw off the ground.
It roars out "COME DOWN HERE WOMAN OR I WALL COME TAKE THEM MYSELF, ALONG WITH YOU AS A MEAL!"
A woman in a window higher than the main door of the windmill sees the troupe and waives "HEY! HELP! HEEEEEELLLPPP!"
The monstrosity follows her gaze to you. It lowers its paw a winces a bit as it puts weight on it, but stands strong. It looks you lot over and grins. "Best be leavin' now before there's a problem." it says matter of factly. "And I don't think you lot can handle this problem" it follows with a deep intent on intimidation. (not the mechanic)
((Grimadim and Conen are the closest at 120ft, the rest of you can be as close or far to them as you want but not in front please. If you wish to talk to it then now is your chance. You always have the chance to do or say something until we roll initiative. In which case we just roll lol.))
Ines's eyes widened as she looks at the beast. She starts to take a step back then stops, remembering she is a cleric of Helm. Lifting her chin, Ines edges closer to the others (Assuming Jonah stays 3rd, she won't get in front of him). "It seems there is already a problem," she says loudly and confidently as she can muster. "Why are you threatening this woman?"

Rolls were weird and did not work the first time. somehow showed up once i added the additional roll.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Conen stops dead in his tracks and drops into a crouch on seeing the monster, seemingly suprised with the weird best in front of them, and certainly more surprised when it addresses the group, suddenly very wary of something that provides such a warning. He stands ready to react, waiting to see what the others do being confronted by this encounter, or the woman elaborates on the situation. As he would in any situation like this he quickly scans the surrounding area for other threats (noting that he was walking with crossbow in hand resting on his shoulder)
Critical Damage = max damage+ normal damage roll + bonus (10+1d10+4)
Flanking gives advantage to attacks rolls for the creature(s) flanking. A flanking creature is one who is behind a hostile creature while a friendly is in front.
Once a creature is half HP or below it becomes bloodied. There are no other mechanics to bloodied other than looking haggard and being a visual aid to let other know that the creature has taken a lot of damage.
You have advantage if you are at least 5 feet above a creature you are attacking with a ranged weapon or ranged attack spell.

OOC: Don't want to be too pedantic but you did say we were approx 120ft from the monster but it looks like you have placed us less than 50ft away? If this goes south I would want as much distance for ranged attacks as possible :-)

I've made the changes. Keep in mind the elevation. Sorry about that, I felt like the distance would be annoying to deal with in terms of the room on the map, but we can work with this. Thank you for helping, believe it or not, this is my first time DM'ing.

im counting 75ft-ish. more if diagonal movement is more than 5ft. This would also be a rule that could use some clarification: How much movement does moving diagonal cost? just 5ft or 10ft for every 2nd diagonal square? different DMs handle it in different ways

"Thank you, but I'm afraid she was only trying to startle me, the prankster. Ellairë is a female hawk owl, but only in form. She is a Fey spirit."
Elvish speakers:
Ellairë means "the first of Summer", used to refer to the first month of Summer.
That is a beautyful name, i have to say. But i myself are more of autumn person myself.

OOC: Looks like we are potentially jumping straight into an encounter, could you give us a view on rules interpretation and application - things like;
Advantage (eg high ground, other rules for gaining advantage)
Flanking (bonus to hit or advantage rule)
Critical damage (standardard double roll of damage dice + bonus (eg 2d10+4) or max damage+ normal damage roll + bonus (10+1d10+4))
...and any more that might be relevant to provide.....
Thanks!!!

It did not see you with that 9, Jonah
You used the crest of the hill and odd angles to get to the tree while Ines and the other had it's attention.
