Areus has difficulty moving forward as he stumbles for a moment. He sets his feet and gets back up and strikes out with his spears. Crackling lightning from Tisto smashes into the elemental as Soren again strikes out with his blade.
This time your combined attacks are enough and the fire of the elemental is extinguished. Darkness fills the area as the light goes out. Saya's storm suddenly ends though she is not the one that ends the spell.
When the darkness clears, you find yourselves once more in the calm skies of Nyx. Stars twinkle overhead, and it almost seems serene, despite your recent trauma.
Two entities form to either side of you.
On one side, the vast emptiness of Kruphix, god of possibility. His many arms each hold a notion of how the world could be.
On the other, the three faces of Klothys, goddess of fate, her three faces exemplifying how the world is in truth.
Both tower above you, staring down with starlit eyes. “The woman Calisto must die”, shrieks Klothys, and her words are like knives through your skull, piercing with the dreadful finality of a goddess who knows the measure of your destiny. “You will reclaim the Ainoe mask and slay her. She is too dangerous to let live. The best path for Theros is Calisto’s death. I have read the threads of destiny and have determined that if Calisto were to die, Theros will be certain to survive in its present form and the Ainoe mask will return to safe hands, though it may have missed the chance to evolve into something better."
“She is a danger”, drones Kruphix, his words laced with cautious wisdom. “A danger to Theros, and her meddling has disrupted the flow of possibility. The Ainoe mask hides her from our gaze. I ask that you do not slay her, but work to temper her impulses — I foresee she will yet be of use to you. Calisto’s life offers the greatest scope for possibility — perhaps she will repent her ways and work great good in the world as a result of intervention. Either way, I would see her full potential come to its conclusion. I resist the idea of her journey being cut short.”
You are caught between two gods with conflicting ideas on how you will proceed. But you are left with one feeling for certain. You must decide one path or the other. Do as Klothys wishes or do as Kruphix wishes. But you must choose.
"Well if I got killed every-time I did something somebody or someone didn't like I would have burnt through my nine lives quicker than you can say cavorting carousing caroling satyrs" Tisto comments "I say we have a chat with this Calisto and see if we can show her the error of her ways" he finishes with.
Areus shakes his head as Tisto suggests to attempt to convince Calisto "That woman can not be trusted Tisto, she already betrayed once and we all know of what she is capable of." the hoplite pauses for a moment before continuong "I agree with the Goddess of Fate, Calisto has to die in order to save Theros."
"I have not met this Calisto, so I would rather not pass any judgement." Saya looks around her companions, to see if anyone is in need of healing. "If, however, I must pass a judgement at this moment, I must agree with Tisto. I would like to speak with the person, and unless she gives us a reason to end her life, I say we let her fate to be determined by the gods."

"Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life."
"I agree with the Goddess of Fate, Calisto has to die in order to save Theros." Areus counters. To which Tisto responds "I'm not saying she gets off skatfree, in fact she will probably end up, and should, pay for her actions. In fact..." here he pauses as if thinking deeply "... if I've learnt anything it is that we are all responsible for our own actions! What we should do is not assassinate her from a distance, we give her an opportunity to surrender and explain her actions, something she probably wont do anyway. And then she is all yours my friend."
"In that case Tisto" says the Arkoan "we have an agreement." Areus pauses a moment "We ask her, once, to repent and hand over the masks. If she does not comply, and I'm sure she will not, we will cut her down." The hoplite touches his shield with the tip of his spear as he says those final words.
"She MUST DIE. You will swear to kill her when you retrieve the mask! I offer a boon to aid you in this task, the touch of a god to bless you in this. "
You are filled with certainty that you would each receive the Lucky feat if you swear to do as Klothys demands.
On the other side Kruphix opposes Klothys.
"You must swear to spare her no matter what when you collect the mask from her. You will have unbounded potential when you swear to me you will spare her life, no matter what. "
This time you know that your most important ability would be increased (+2 to your highest ability score)
Whichever you choose you know you are bound to as you bargain with a god.
Both voices fill your head together
"You, as a group, must choose one path or the other or remain here."
You are certain the two gods are absolutely prepared to keep the group trapped in timeless stasis, and refuse to countenance releasing anyone until a resolution has been reached.
Tisto puts his hands over his ears muttering "will you two get out of my head and let me think!" He turns to Areaus "You've already gotten off the fence. Me, I'm not so sure so I'll have to think on it a bit more!"
Soren shakes his head sorrowfully. When he speaks, his voice is shaky "Everyone deserves a second chance. I did something terrible once, something that I am still trying to atone for. With all my being I regret that day, however I am no longer the same person that I once was."
He stops for a moment as his resolve seems to harden, and his voice is strong when he starts to speak again. "Which is why you cannot ask us to make this choice. Free will is what separates our mortal souls from the divine. Forcing us to look in black and white rips away a core part of who we are. Until Calisto makes her final choice, we cannot take either course of action. If she decides to change, and stands with us, then we will spare her life. If she chooses the path of darkness, then she will die."
(OOC: As they say nothing ventured nothing gained - this could all end very badly for Tisto - yet it is very much in character so here goes ...)
Nobody ever said that Tisto was particularly wise and, so living up to his nickname (Tisto literally translates as "What the ...?") he turns to where the shadow that is Kruphix is lurking and says/thinks "not to say we don't value your gift but it seems to me that the value of the gift your companion is offering were we to snuff out the life of this Calisto is greater than the value of the gift you're offering to preserve her life?"
"If those are the terms of our oaths, we have only one choice." Areus turns around to look at the other members of the group. "Callisto has to die. She already had her second chance. She could have abandoned her quest for gathering the masks as her former master Xenagos did, but she choose to continue. She cannot be allowed to gather the masks and gain godhood, she is a menace." The hoplite pauses for a moment before adding "If you all decide to spare her life, no matter what when we collect the masks from her, I will support you and swear the oath with you all, but I still think that it is not a wise decision."
Soren feels the crushing weight of the two gods who stand over them. "Cannot? We can and we do. You have free will. You are free to choose one of the choices given to you or refuse and face the consequences of your free decision to defy the will of the gods. That is your free will."
Tisto also tries to bargain with Kruphix and feels the weight of disappointment. "You claim to follow me, you claim to be my devotee and yet you defy my will? You wish to further the aims of another god in defiance of my will? Choose your path wisely satyr or I will remove my hand from your life."
A little shamefaced - but not too much - Tisto in his usual irreverent style says/thinks “keep your hair on boss - I’ll do what I can to keep this lot from meting out the justice that Calisto probably deserves!”
Callaphe is silent through most of this, musing. "We have no evidence that if she goes free she wont try something like this again." She eventually says cautiously.
"I have expressed my opinion on the matter." says Areus to the rest of the group "We have to decide otherwise we will never leave this place and Callisto will be left unchecked." The hoplite thinks for a while and then, smiling, says "Since we are five and it looks like we all have different opinions, let's decide it as they decide in Meletis, by voting." he pauses before continuing "I cast my vote for Klothys's proposition."
“I would agree with you on most matters Areus, but unfortunately I will have to disagree with you here. I will cast my vote for Kruphix’s. I am sorry.” Saya declares with resolution.
