The unit appears to be four heavy crossbow rigged on a platform that can be swirled and fired from the small seat situated on top of it. You pieced that together from seeing it in action. You aren't able to learn much more about it.
Blaire stares at Ikki for a while then answers, "No, this is just a ***** crazy $$$$ Gnome. From what I can understand when she happens to say something in common, she's still going on about the contraption, its design, and I think its lack of firing strength. Thank the $$$$ gods for that or we'd be bloodied something awful."
"We should probably haul her along though, right? If she's as loony as she seems, she's going to end up a monster meal or killing someone else."

"RINN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I SWEAR IF YOU CAUSE THAT THING TO FIRE OFF, I AM COMING AFTER YOU FULL ON!"
Eli will reply: "I think this one may have consumed some of the 'special' mushrooms. Aye maybe we should take her back to the kitchen/barracks. I do not want to babysit her while we are looking for the other Gnomes or the shape-changer."
"I think that was their dinning area and kitchen. That one let us bed down out a sympathy. You're right though. Let's take this one back then? We barely got round the corner!", Blaire responds
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Before they take the gnome back the way they came, Rinn hangs back and looks around the room for anything of interest or value (Perception: 15). Failing finding anything, he slinks along behind the group as they return the gnome to the guards.
Rinn, you find a Tinker's Tools set between the crossbow platform top and the seat above it.
The party doesn't find the group in the dinning area, but in the kitchen just beyond it.
There is a door between the dinning area and the kitchen.
This kitchen is furnished with gnomes in mind, so everything is either close to the floor or readily reachable by tugging on an overly complicated rope-and-pulley mechanism.
The five gnomes from this morning are busy here: Joybell (female) uses a poker to stoke the fire of a hot iron stove standing against the east wall. Dimble (male) uses a complicated press-like contraption to squeeze oil out of a big red mushroom and filter the liquid into four oil flasks. Panana (female) stands atop a low table and uses a mechanical rolling pin contraption to kneed green bread dough. The severed caps of several big green mushrooms are set around her. Uppendown (male) forms the dough into loaves of green bread, his tongue sticking out as he carefully shapes each loaf like a master sculptor. Tervaround (female) teeters on a stool as she stuffs a big purple mushroom into a barrel, so that it can ferment and be turned into mushroom wine.
When you close the door, all the Gnomes working immediately look up from what they're doing.
It is noticeably quieter with the door shut.
Dimble, Panana and Uppendown are immediately with you asking questions and looking over the Gnome they identify as Facktoré. Apparently, Facktoré will only talk about the platform and her testing and needed improvements.
While they're apologetic regarding Facktoré's behavior, they're also having a good laugh at Blaire's new color scheme. Tervaround assures that the change will "probably" ware off in an hour.
When the others are getting back to work, Joybell provides the party a map. Pointing out the rope bridge, and the enchantment workshop in the far southwest corner. There is also apparently a set of blades that can be switched on or off at the other side of the bridge.
Joybell says, "We'll keep Facktoré with us for now. Do you have any questions before I get back to work?"
Rinn pockets the toolset and then runs after the others. When they enter the kitchen, he looks around, jaw agape, as he takes in everything happening in the kitchen.
"No $$$$; an avoid ***** color changing @#$% craziness! I still don't understand what that $%^&*#$ was expecting! I mean; is it lucky that I'm only blue instead of a mushroom or some #$%^&*?"
"Anyway! It looks like Ikki could fly straight from here over to those barracks and walk right into the Enchantment workshop. Looks like we were nearly at the bridge too; just a short way south past that contraption, right?"
Blaire's pointing at different sections of the map or tracing paths while looking repeatedly up to Joybell who's nodding her agreement.
"No, no, let's all just get on the path? Stay together, right?", says Blaire following Eli and Ikki while gesturing Rinn to follow along and still trying to remember what happened to Various.
The party makes the first seventy feet out of the kitchen, through the dining area to the split where they initially entered. (Ikki: Do you split off here and fly or stick with the party?)
They then continue left and right then through the crossbow platform room and another eighty feet where they can see a room of wine casks directly in front of them, to the east, and to their right, continuing south, is a path leading into another opening with a guard station. The station is on a platform about ten feet raised from the main floor. Pog is clearly visible alongside another Gnome.
You know from the sound of the falls, you cannot be heard from this distance, but Pog clearly sees you and waves.
