When Jack entered town, the streets were astonishingly barren, the walls manned only by a skeleton crew of guards. The Tavern was one of the only lit buildings in Trishdale. 

As he enters the roadhouse, the common room is empty except the barkeep, who is on slumped on his counter with a few tankards of ale. He looks mournfully at a picture of a women, which he snatches away when Jack enters. 

He slurs his words as he speaks, "You want a room? Eh, just go upstairs and pick one for yourself and pay me in the morning. Just...leave me alone. Oh, and you should take one of these." 

 His eyes go back to the picture, but he points to the box of earplugs on the counter. 

(Chronologically, I'd say Jack managed to enter Trishdale just after the town event party left the town but before the spirit arrived. Hopefully, this won't be too confusing.) 

Jack palms a few plugs and pockets them. He eyes the barkeep,

"I thought there'd be more people. Where's everyone gone to? Something going on outside the city?"

He leans forward and picks up one of the cleaner looking Stein's and holds it up, raising a questioning, even pleading eyebrow, as he glances at the keg behind the bar.

The bartender waves off Jack. 

"The bar's closed! The spirit's coming soon...it would be wise to put on those earplugs." 

At that moment, a distant shriek comes from somewhere within town- a piercing wail that chills the bones. The barkeep's eyes widen, as if he can hear the cry despite having earplugs in.

However, Jack feels the full brunt of the scream...

(Jack must make a (DC 11 CON Save, take 9 psychic damage or half on a success, as well as a gaining 4 Stress, or half on a successful Save. )

Jack feels his veins turn to ice as the shriek reverberates from afar.

"What in the 9 hells was that?! Some wounded beast? How did it get inside the city?"

Jack is still skeptical of the 'spirit' situation.

Fallion grits his teeth. He has one more trick up his sleeve... but it's not yet time to use it. It's a long shot, but he owes it to the spirit to try.

For now, he dashes forward and strikes the spirit with his twin blades.

Scimitar: Attack: 7 Damage: 9
Shortsword: 23 Damage: 8

Khan moves to strike the Husband as well.

Scab's arrow directly pierces the Husband's heart! Khan lands a blow as well, and it's Slurb's Acid Breath which finishes him. The Husband 's heart bursts open, causing a swarm of insects to fly out and vanish into the night sky. 

Limine's blast strikes the mother, while Mordekai's strikes the Spirit. Fallion manages to land with his shortsword, but realizes that the mortal steel seems to be somewhat ineffective against the ethereal spirit. Now that the bladesinger is close, he can make out what the spirit is saying as she sobs.

"They said they loved me...so why would they betray me?" 

When the Husband falls, Lisa becomes incredibly agitated. The fungal, lip-shaped flaps around her head open, revealing her hideous decayed skull. Lines of jagged teeth line the flaps, and Lisa lunges forward and attempts ensnare Slurb with them!

(Attack: 11 Damage: 9. On a hit, Slurb must make a Acrobatics or Athletics check against DC14 or be grappled.) 

Scab fails to escape the Mother's watchful eye. The hunched woman draws a cane from her dress and approaches the kobold. She rasps ,"tsk tsk tsk...you've been a bad boy." 

Cane Attack: 23 Damage: 5

The spirit still floats motionless. Back to the party. 

Mordekai grits his teeth, hoping to finally vanquish this spirit, fires another blast of eldritch energy her way. Attack: 22 Damage: 12

Once again, Limine will blast at the mother.

Attack: 21 Damage: 12

Scab dodges the cane and disengages, runs a ways away, and fires another crossbow bolt at his pursuer.

Bonus Action: Disengage
Action: Shortbow Attack - To Hit: 16 dealing 8 damage. 

Fallion will make an attempt to hopefully finish this by getting her to talk instead of fight... His priority is ending this haunting for good and beating her back to the grave may not be a permanent solution. Hopefully it's not too late, she seems to be in the more agreeable part of her duality right now. And, all things considered, he's the one most insulated from mental damage. It's time to employ some basic human empathy, something he has not used often in past negotiations.

"Lady, you must calm down and speak to me. I know you are confused, hurt, but you are not alone. We came with offerings, I have the best intentions. If we could just talk, everything will turn for the better. You must stop attacking your guests!"

(Persuasion: 22)

Slurb casts Magic Missile, and all of his attacks are directed at the Spirit.

(What a week! I'm been swamped with work, but now Thanksgiving break is here, I've got more time to continue this game. Thanks for hanging in there- expect a post coming tomorrow.) 

(No problem!)

The mother is blown away by Limine's blast, and as she attempts to recover, Scab's arrows finish her. She crumples to the ground and her basket spills rotten fruit. As each family member is defeated, the spirit appears to become more faint. 

Fallion attempts to negotiate with the Spirit. She looks at him with pleading eyes and says, "I'm sorry...I can't. She won't let me." 

Then, she is struck by Slurb's magic missiles and Mordekai's blast. She gasps and her expression changes to absolute fear.

Fissures begin to appear in the grave marked, "me." The ground quakes as suddenly, a lightening bolt strikes the clawed hand tree above. The dead wood ignites, filling the area with acrid smoke. But the smell of burning flesh permeates the air as something appears to be digging itself from the grave. Something big. 

(Will arise in the next round.) 

Meanwhile, Lisa continues her onslaught on Slurb. She attempts to entrap him in the fungal flaps. 

(Attack: 21 Damage: 7. On a hit, Slurb must make a Acrobatics or Athletics check against DC14 or be grappled.) 

Slurb's save: 17 acrobatics.

Scab makes a cackling sound as the Mother is defeated. He sends another arrow at Lisa, trying to help Slurb out.

To Hit - 13 dealing 17 piercing damage.

Slurb shoots Lisa at point blank range with his crossbow...Do I roll with disadvantage?

Seeing his allies surrounded by the undead, Mordekai advances with grim determination. As he does so, he brandishes his shield and utters a prayer: "Grant us your protection, Mother of Knowledge" and then in a loud voice, "Flee you restless spirits!" 

(He will move 30 ft up and use Turn Undead; DC 12 Wis Save)

Seeing his ally harassed violently, Mordekai turns his attention to Lisa and fires an eldritch blast her way (Attack: 15 Damage: 4)
