”Looks like you were right, Sheyla. I think we should stop the wagon and look for those bandits and cutpurses you were talking about. Eyes sharp, everyone.”
Velshir doesn’t mind taking point. He intends to get closer to the horses to examine them. he creeps forward cautiously, alert and ready to dodge any sudden attacks.
I’d like to move my walk speed 35’ towards the horses, stay alert, and use the dodge action, if that’s appropriate at this time
As Velshir approaches with caution, his step is suddenly impeded by Loren, sprinting by his kneecaps to gawk at the horses up close. He holds his nose as he gets close, the smell being not inconsiderable to the city-born youth.
Sheyla pulls the reins and stops the oxen. She drops her hood and hopsndown to the ground. She squint her eye and looks about. "The forest... it's quiet, too quiet," she says. Her hands come up to a readied position and fumbles with getting her shield out just in case.
Unthir's happy gate stopped the moment he saw the dead horses. Specifically looking at the arrows, he started to quietly panic, walking repeatedly back and forth between the animals in disbelief. The paranoia truly set in when Velshir mentioned bandits, and he hurriedly walked back to the cart. Like a seal going up to a ship, he hurriedly looked around from the cart's side for an incoming shark.
@silvercoins to the side of the cart or into the back standing facing outward? (I'm picturing you pacing briefly then quickly back to cart with back to it watching around from the ground)
Sheyla on the ground to left of the cart readying herself, Joshua on the ground to the right of cart readying, Velshire cautiously approaching the horses to inspect, Lymbryl left side of the cart and Unthir to the left of cart facing outward, Loren just ahead of Velshire by horses is how I have placement currently.
@Velshire and @Loren
Upon inspection you can identify the horses as belonging to Gundren Rockseeker and Sildar Hallwinter. They’ve been dead about a day, and it’s clear that arrows killed the horses.
The saddlebags have been looted. Nearby lies an empty leather map case.
@Sheyla
Forest sounds are still very quiet and unusual. You are sure there is something close.
After Sheyla mentioned, you all become very aware that it does seem very quiet - not silent - and you have the distinct feeling that you are being watched, but you don't spot anything as you survey.
(allowing a little time for @10CentEnlightenment to post any adjustment)
Velshir will move cautiously and alertly off the path on the right side of the road (no more than 10-20’) looking into the trees and straining to hear, and still poised to dodge any incoming attacks.
Loren would like to pick up the map-case, curiously inspecting it and remaining generally oblivious to the tense and readied postures of his companions. His relative inexperience in the wilds is also evident, as he does not react to the peculiar quiet that has fallen over this part of the road.
"It's a bag of some sort - I think for papers. I once saw a street artist with seven or eight of these things. Usually nothing very interesting inside. Can I keep it, or do you want it?"

@ Loren and Joshua It appears to be a standard leather map case, currently empty and open, only slightly worn. The horses / equipment bear markings you recognize as belonging to Gundren Rockseeker and Sildar Hallwinter. They’ve been dead about a day, and it’s clear that arrows killed the horses. The saddlebags have been looted.
From each side of the trail emerges 2 Goblins (4 total). 7 <- If your passive perception is higher than this roll, please roll initiative. If not, you were caught by surprise this turn and are unable to attack but may make any 'reaction' moves at the end of this turn.
@Velshire, - please roll an additional perception - use higher of passive or this roll to determine if you were surprised due to your location.
G1 rushes in to engage Loren armed with a Scimitar; G2 rushes in to engage Velshir armed with a Scimitar; G3 and G4 remain on opposite sides about 30 feet from the trail and are armed with Short bows.

Iymbryl hardly notices his companions' comments, mere background noise as he narrows focus. Fixating on the nearest goblin he shoulders his shield and draws his longsword, rushing towards him to engage.
Iymbryl will continue moving towards the nearest goblin and attempt to attack.
If he gets close enough to attack: Attack: 14 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

On Velshir’s turn
I hope I’m not presuming too much. I’ll just post this in the interest of keeping things flowing. Let me know if I’m out of line or too confusing. This is also assuming Velshir is not surprised, and this entire post can be disregarded if he is surprised.
On Velshir’s turn he’s going to move toward the goblin coming at him (if necessary) and attack with an unarmed strike
Attack: 16 Damage: 7 Prefer to knock unconscious
if goblin still conscious, use bonus action to attack again Same target Attack: 18 Damage: 7
if the goblin goes down on first hit, I’d like to try to reach the goblin going after the little hobbit (my move is 35) and attack that one with the bonus action, unconscious again Attack: 18 Damage: 6 assuming it’s still up
Edit: oh geez those are some terrible rolls
so I rolled a 2 for perception and a 5 and 3 to hit, nice
Unthir caught a glimpse of the far away archers as the goblins rushed in, and crouches low to the side wheel of the cart. Hastily planning his next move, he fiddled with the dagger in his pocket. He whispered to himself, "its not bandits. ok. Its not bandits. breathe. What don't Goblins like?"
He will try to use Minor Illusion. He wants to make the echoing sound of a deep and heavy Orcish war drum for 1 minute after. For the cast, he'll blow his horn, but only once-trying hard to imitate the drum on the first beat, then letting his voice take over.
"Thunder in the deep, mmmmm."
As a bonus action, he'll try Bardic Inspiration* on Velshir. Stomping to the beat of the war drum, he'll keep singing low, almost chanting.
"Thunder in the deep, mmmmm." "Thunder in the..."
*As a bonus action, a creature (other than yourself) within 60 ft. that can hear you gains an inspiration die (1d6). For 10 minutes, the creature can add it to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. This can be added after seeing the roll, but before knowing the outcome.
Velshir notices the sight ahead and quietly says,
”Looks like you were right, Sheyla. I think we should stop the wagon and look for those bandits and cutpurses you were talking about. Eyes sharp, everyone.”

Joshua feels the cart stop and looks up and mutters "Great...." He gets off the cart and looks around.
Joshua will ready Mage Armor if the group is attacked
