If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
Ooc: I’m game for jumping right into the journey. I don’t need to RP it out but Lazlo would definitely hit up Lady Ashwa for the coin the satyrs need to get safely to Valis, say his goodbyes etc.
I leveled my character up to level 2, chose spells, etc. but no equipment other than what we’ve been given or found. As far as Feats go, unless your a variant human I don’t think any of us are eligible for them until level 4- unless your giving us a starting feat?

((I had thought about giving everyone a custom starting feat, but we'll see how the first mission goes first before any more homebrew is added. Also, duely noted, when we flip to the next day, we'll skip ahead some more so the other 2 can get introduced.))

ooc: cool, looking forward to the next chapter.

Grimbuld nods his approval.
"Good to hear. It'll be decent training as well. I'll try and interfere as little as I can and not boss you kids around outside of pointing us in the right direction." he states. "Otherwise, you lot lead, I'll follow... and try not to slow you down." he says.
Grimbuld has received medical treatment but he's definitely not moving about as easily as he did before. The beating he took from the Labors must have been more severe than he let on... it's even possible he only survived the attack through sheer will alone.
In the coming days, Lazlo manages to gain an audience with Ashwa and her gratitude towards the group has not lessened at all. She's more than happy to sign off on paying the satyr triplet's way for their journey to Valis, though the next caravan to Valis doesn't leave for another few weeks; trade routes have been understandably thrown into disarray as new owners for various businesses are found and established since so many of the wealthy upper class died in the attack.
((Rolling for the Guiston researchers)) Insight: 17
Hyre is actually asked to appear before the Guiston engineer's guild since he has shown a high aptitude for the kind of spellcraft the labors use, since they haven't been able to unravel the riddle of how the Skell labors are able to persist without a life line.
((Hyre, if you would roll an arcana check for me, DC 24. If you pass, I'll DM you your findings.))
A couple of weeks pass and the group are finally on break from the academy and are able to go on their first journey out of the city. Due to what they've already lived through, their study habits are head and shoulders above that of their peers; after all, they have a village to save, the stakes are far higher for them.
Raia, for her part, spends her time preparing her plans to be captured by the Skell and watch over the people of Hon until a rescue effort can be made. Aelar can feel her anxiety but also shares in her determination. Grimbuld's words affected her more than she let on; a deep sense of guilt is also behind her efforts. As much as she'd like to deny it, she does feel at least partially responsible. Grimbuld was right about one thing; she may care deeply about the 'groundlings' but this time she's spent in Guiston has been the longest she's been in human form, to say nothing about being part of the community.
On the day the group prepares to leave, the Watch supplies the group with the standard provisions that the old knight's brigade used to get when leaving on missions (each); 10 days of rations (including canteens of water), gambesson (padded) armor or a heavy cloak marked by the Guiston Watch emblem (your choice), a survival pouch containing 1 vial of antitoxin, a healer's kit, and 2 of Grimbuld's own healing potions, a bedroll, an oil lantern, and tinder kit.
Geoffrey has also fully decided to gift Lalzo his wife's old instrument, saying that he's sure she would prefer it to continue doing good, rather than languishing in some dusty old chest. The training weapons Geoffrey gave to them are sharpened to full battle readiness by Leon.
Due to the group's combined wages and favors owed from helping to end the attack on Guiston, they may also purchase 4 additional items each with their pooled wealth of 286 GP, due to the shops of Guiston having a lot of bare shelves from the attack. Restocking will take some time yet before the group can make more substantial purchases.

Aelar doesn't need much:
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Hyre is glad to be called there but is baffled when he faces it first. How does one even approach this? Luckily, his latest lessons were focused on a simple yet useful magic trick, that through a bit of pain can sharpen your mind, your senses, or your physical abilities for a few moments. It might seem weird to the others around as Hyre pulls out a small hammer and hits his forehead with it - with a practised, careful movement, of course - but if that's what it takes to figure this out, he has no problem doing it.
Arcana: 5 + 2 from Guidance if it can apply.
When looking for gear, Hyre is a bit disappointed that he's unable to find all he needs, even if he ends up being the one spending the most of all the group. Moreover, that the watch is providing them with an armour that makes so much noise that it is essentially more dangerous to wear than nothing, at least when the goal is to attract as little attention as possible, is beyond his comprehension. He takes the cloak, though he sees little use in that as well. Maybe if it gets too cold... This also means he'll have to look for sufficient armour somewhere else, but that's hard to find. Eventually, he manages to grab the following things and has no choice but to be content with them:
A shield: 10 GP.
Cook's Utensils: 1 GP.
Studded Leather: 45 GP.
Dagger: 2 GP.
Lastly, a day before departing, he'll approach Kallista with an offer. "You know, we've been practising making mundane weapons into magical weapons. It cannot be done for many weapons simultaneously, but I could surely maintain this magical effect on at least one weapon, which could be your bow. It wouldn't be anything as special as Grimbuld's bows, but it would still be better than an actual bow... in case the journey isn't as peaceful as I hope it will be, you know. Would you like me to try enhancing your weapon?"
If she agrees, he'll take the bow and return the next day with the same bow, nearly. "I know it looks the same, but it is different. It creates its own arrows when you make the movement of nocking one, into the bow. Just try, you'll see."
(Essentially, Hyre's offering to make her bow into a Repeating Shot infusion. I put the description of it in the spoiler below, in case you don't know/remember what that is.)
Repeating Shot
Item: A simple or martial weapon with the ammunition property (requires attunement)
This magic weapon grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it when it’s used to make a ranged attack, and it ignores the loading property if it has it.
If you load no ammunition in the weapon, it produces its own, automatically creating one piece of magic ammunition when you make a ranged attack with it. The ammunition created by the weapon vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.

Ooc: So the four of us can split the 286 gold? I don’t need much but I’d like to but some armor
Fleabag Fleabane -Tabaxi Ranger | Lenny Coggins- Halfling Barbarian | Sid Shatterbuckle- Dwarf Fighter/Rogue| Lazlo - Satyr Bard in Training
((All for of you have 286 gold pooled, yes. Also, you can get rid of that breastplate, Kallista. I'm not sure where it came from but it may have been a test.))
Grimbuld and Kina are waiting by the gates. Any last-minute preparations are best done now, as Grimbuld warns that they'll be proceeding at a fair pace. Before, stealth was their best option, but now that the group has matured and have proper training, they can proceed with a bit more confidence. As Grimbuld put it,
"Anything we can't handle, we will be able to see coming before it sees us."
Hyre's hawk is a fledgling now, and has learned to stay perched on Hyre's shoulder or riding in a pouch. She can't quite fly yet, but she can hop away from danger with acceptable quickness and her instinct is to hide when trouble is around.

OOC: Given that Aelar can cast Mage Armor at will without using a slot please consider that he always has it cast unless I advise otherwise
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
ooc: OK so we get this: 10 days of rations (including canteens of water), gambesson (padded) armor or a heavy cloak marked by the Guiston Watch emblem (your choice), a survival pouch containing 1 vial of antitoxin, a healer's kit, and 2 of Grimbuld's own healing potions (are these 'regular' healing potions or 'superior' etc.), a bedroll, an oil lantern, and tinder kit.
Studded leather 45 gp, dagger 2gp, .... I'd get a longbow and arrows but that'd break the bank. I'll opt for the heavy cloak since I'm buying armor (this doesn't change AC at all, it's just cosmetic, right?)
Fleabag Fleabane -Tabaxi Ranger | Lenny Coggins- Halfling Barbarian | Sid Shatterbuckle- Dwarf Fighter/Rogue| Lazlo - Satyr Bard in Training
((Grimbuld's healing potions are the same as regular healing potions in that they restore the same number of HP, but they can also be used on unusually severe wounds, such as reattaching a severed limb or regenerating a lost eye due to being made of treated troll blood. Also, yes, the cloak is just protection from the elements, which definitely is a thing in this campaign; hypothermia and exposure is a valid concern that I will be tracking, as will be hydration and hunger. I'll let you all know if your character is suffering from any environmental effects and needs to take care of themselves.))

(So far, Hyre's expenses total 58 GP; Lazlo's total 47 GP and Aelar's total 28.3. A total of 133.3 so far, 152.7 GP left. That would probably be just enough for Kallista's equipment, the last two of Lazlo's items and a little extra for after.)

Did a doodle of Lazlo- not sure its ‘him’

ooc: Strangely, 'cloak' is not an inventory item available on D&D Beyond so instead I added cold-weather clothing.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Ooc: we can add ‘cold weather clothing’ then customize the name to ‘heavy cloak’?
Fleabag Fleabane -Tabaxi Ranger | Lenny Coggins- Halfling Barbarian | Sid Shatterbuckle- Dwarf Fighter/Rogue| Lazlo - Satyr Bard in Training
((That works, sure.... also, not how I pictured Laz XD ))
Grimbuld has his own war bow and has 2 more to spare, though they're finely crafted, they're not magical. The exotic bows he had before have since been gifted to Geoffrey to assist in training the Watch in both archery and marksmanship or to the academy to assist in training the next wave of engineers that will have to bolster the numbers lost when the Hearth was decimated.
Kina is sporting a full saddle with large carrying bags, and will carry whatever the group doesn't want to for them, as she can comfortably lug around 400 lbs (180 kg) besides her own equipment and supplies. She carries an additional 4 healing potions for the group, as well, just in case.

((Huh, surprised balls of string arent an equipment option in the PHB))
Kallista spends probably too much time overthinking extra gear she might want/need. Eventually after enough time of coming up with and rejecting worst case scenarios she purchases a length of rope, an herbalist's kit, and her own leather armor over of the offered padded armor. And seemingly on a whim, a sprig of mistletoe of all things.
