Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
Berker's questioning unfortunately sparks more debate among the children which makes collecting actually relevant information difficult, but the goblin does manage to confirm what the captain already noted of their previous encounters.
Whatever they are, they're not intelligent enough to use even the most basic of tactics, and instead blindly try to take the shortest distance to their target. Also, while they don't seem to react to any sort of pain, they're not invincible. The children have witnessed the warriors of their own tribe breaking and severing the limbs of the creatures, even if they don't seem to notice the loss, though attacking the torso seems to be the least effective. The creatures can be impaled and still fight on.
However, Berker DOES discover two other pieces of information: The only one of the night furies that the children recall seeing killed was completely beheaded, and those who fall to the furies are taken away. They never leave a corpse behind.
Finally, the eldest child seems pretty confident that the night furies attacked them from the south consistently.... where a series of caves are known to be.

Erich look at Fintreun and tilt his head. "What made you say that? Did the children know where their nest is in?"
Kallista makes it to the office before the stirges fully awaken.
(Secret roll) 76
The stirges that did awaken are alerted to the scent of prey nearby and begin to flap around the office door. As they hunt around for her, 6 more are roused from dormancy and begin to mill around the rafters, sensing the rest of the party waiting outside the lumber mill.
"Look alive, seems like Kallista stirred the hornet's nest.. or ... stirge's nest... whatever." Kina says, getting her staff ready.
Meanwhile....
The captain makes a face and rubs his chin.
"Those caves? Well, that's not too far away. A couple hour's ride or half a day's walk at most. It makes sense... if those things hate light, they'd need some place to shelter during the day... I'm just surprised that they'd be hiding so close by." he says.
"They've always pulled back before sunrise, so I can only assume that they have SOME sense of self-preservation, or they'd just continue attacking until they perished."

Erich remain silent as he listen to the captain. Something seems to have cross his mind as he voice out, "What else did the children mention? Even if we know where they nest in it would be meaningless if we don't have the means to hurt or best, eliminate them. I couldn't understand anything they said so some more explanation would be much appreciated, Fintreun." He thrums on his temple with a frown.
Lazlo draws his sabre, muttering a curse. "Here we go, stumbling into it again." He looks around nervously for an obvious way to get to Kallista and help her.
ooc: any other obvious ways in to help her? I can roll Perception if it'd help.

Aelar steps up. "I can help, maybe. With my link to Raia, I can maybe put them into a magical sleep." He looks at Grimbuld and Kina. "What do you think?"
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Ooc: lol I took the sleep spell as well. The range is 90ft- but not sure if we’d need to see the stirges. Not sure how accurate my imagining of the scene is but I think they’re inside the mill gates above us?! Lol- maybe.

"Once again, curiosity put one of us in danger," Hyre mumbles to himself. He inhales, then shouts in hopes that Kallista could hear him: "Kallista! Are you okay? We're coming to help you!" Then, he turns to the others. "But you would have to get in first, right? Unless one of you knows some form of magic that can break the door..." But the doors held this long against whatever tried to open them with sheer force. If they want to get in, they'd have to find a different way.
Then, an idea comes to his mind. He reaches into his bag and pulls out part of his cook's utensils - a small frying pan. Then, he picks a stone off the ground and places it on the frying pan. Within seconds, the stone starts emitting a strong odour, one that strongly reminds everyone of meat. "While you think of that, I hope this will do for a distraction." He explains, then tries to throw the stone towards one of the platforms, from where the scent will hopefully reach the stirges.
(Hyre wants to use his Magical Tinkering ability on a stone. I put the description of the ability below in case you're not familiar with it. Then, he would like to throw the stone as described above. In case a roll of some sort is required: 19. I suppose it could add Dexterity, in which case, add +4 to the roll.)
At 1st level, you learn how to invest a spark of magic into mundane objects. To use this ability, you must have thieves’ tools or artisan’s tools in hand. You then touch a Tiny nonmagical object as an action and give it one of the following magical properties of your choice:
The chosen property lasts indefinitely. As an action, you can touch the object and end the property early.
You can bestow magic on multiple objects, touching one object each time you use this feature, though a single object can only bear one property at a time. The maximum number of objects you can affect with this feature at one time is equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of one object). If you try to exceed your maximum, the oldest property immediately ends, and then the new property applies.

Aelar closes his eyes and listens carefully to the sounds coming from the mill, trying to isolate the location. "Lazlo," he says quietly, "will you go stand over there and tell me what you hear...and where? I mean, how far away you think the sounds are? I'm trying to get a handle on where the stirges are."
ooc: Trying to use Lazlo to get Advantage, via the Help action. For the sake of brevity I will assume that's OK all around and roll Perception with Advantage. He will use that information to know where to cast Sleep. If I have overstepped, I'm really sorry and please disregard the roll.

Erich raise an eyebrow. A slight smirk grace his lips, "Well, thank you for the information Fintreun, we desperately need those crucial intel." He turns to the children. "And you guys too."
"Then, our next course of action is obvious. We should scout their nest while the sun is still up so we can ambush them." He continues as he look up to the sky.
OOC: What time is it now? How long will it be until dusk?
((Sorry bout the delay folks, work got away from me again. I'll post real soon!))

The captain seems divided on the subject of heading out before nightfall. It's currently late afternoon.
"While we have leads of where the creatures might be... if we're wrong about their hideaway or take too long finding them, we'll leave the outpost undermanned for their usual siege." the captain says.
"It's a solid march to those caves... we COULD make it there and back before nightfall, but if something unexpected were to happen..." he adds, but then looks to the condition of his men.
"On the other hand, stopping them in their tracks before another attack happens could be critical for morale around here. It's also the last thing our enemy would expect."
The sheriff ultimately has the say on whether the group goes or digs in to hold off one last attack. He seems more keen to stay put, defend the outpost, and THEN follow the creatures, but he's not taking into account the existing exhaustion that the outpost guards are suffering. They're ragged and asking them to withstand another night-long siege and THEN go trudging through the wilds after the attacks might be asking too much.
Erich and Berker could argue their case to persuade the sheriff, or propose another plan.
Meanwhile...
Kallista takes stock of what's in the office. Thankfully, it too has been left undisturbed, and apparently the stirges haven't found much use for the room itself. There's evidence of old droppings, but they weren't a fan of the door. There's a few dried husks of dead stirges on the floor; likely the wind blew the door shut and trapped some of them in the office, prompting them to stay clear of it. The office itself is neat and tidy; the old work crews took the time to put everything away before they left. Cabinets are shut, the desk is clear, stationary stashed in an orderly fashion... but most importantly, on the wall hangs a series of keys, each marked with a wooden tag and unique, so they're hard to get confused. Whoever the old foreman of the mill was, he ran a very tight ship. She has a key to every locked door in the mill here.
Also, on the wall by the desk, there's a small window that Kallista could possibly fit through. (Athletics check for time required squeezing out)
Meanwhile, the stirges already outside have spotted the rest of the group, but Hyre's distraction acts as a deterrent.
Enemy morale check: 8
The stirges are hesitating. They don't have their full number, so they wait and make high-pitched squawking sounds to rouse the rest of them from their slumber. The group each gets a full turn to act before the 6 stirges hovering near the window take any action. The rest of them inside aren't visible yet.
"I could charge the door down." Kina suggests. "I'm heavy and strong enough."

OOC: what about Aelar’s attempted Perception roll to figure out a ‘center’ to the stirges based on sound?

^ooc: sorry I missed that- I’ll absolutely use the help action to aid Aelar.
