If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
((Yes, an 18 is a success, sorry, forgot to state the DC check, but it was 16, and yeah, Aelar could get the cantrip XD you're already going to start with a +3 proficiency in performance once you're a level 1 bard Lazlo ;3))
Barna nods, then just leans Hyre against her.
"I know, I know all that Hyre. Just... if you need to ask me something, then ask me. I'll admit at first I was upset, but I'm trying to keep my impulses in check.. and the last thing I want to do is just prove to everyone that a half orc can't control herself and is just a slave to her instincts after all." she sighs.
"Have a little faith in me, all right?" she whispers against his ear, then lightly bites it.
"Or I'll eat yas."
She steps back then, and gestures towards the door.
"I'll be at the mission. Training hard. If I'm going to convince the others that I should be able to come with you, I've got to keep up with you all." she says.
Grimbuld grunts as he sees Kallista mishandle the herbs and ruin the batch, nearly breaking the grinding board that he provided her to try and make the mixture with.

Grimbuld considers for a few moments, then sighs and hands her fresh ingredients.
"Try again." he states, standing up and giving her a hand with the processing.
((You're so lucky! One more time, with advantage Kallista, and add 1D4 to your roll.))

Kallista nods and murmers a "Sorry Sir." Before trying again.
OOC: XD thank the gods for the mood tracker
Medicine: 16 plus 3 so 19

Hyre nods but doesn't say anything. He's probably the only one who really wants her out of this trip. After she leaves, he goes down the stairs, ready to cook. Knowing she will be studying and helping at the mission puts his mind at ease. Books can't kill, and neither will helping poor people, he hoped. On second thought, he was the poor people, and helping him might get her killed. Hopefully, no one except the five from Hon is planning to go outside the walls. Not the poor people who need Barna's help, at least.

Aelar listens to Lazlo's music and opens himself up to it and to Raia, not to communicate with her but to just be with her, feel her location, her presence in the wider world. As the music suffuses him, Aelar watches with a detached, clinical part of his mind as Kallista tries, fails, tries, succeeds in mixing the herbs. Then, finally, it's his turn. As he takes the herbal mixture, he feels a stirring at the other end of his connection to Raia.
Grimbuld is trying something to help us locate you tomorrow. Nothing to worry about.
CHA: 10
OOC: Will a success count towards his CHA? What if he gets over 13 but less than 16?
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
ooc: LOL. A critical success and failure in the same advantage roll. That's funny. Also, it should be a nat-20+3, not 4. His CHA bonus is 3 but I typed in a 4. Sorry about that.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
((You're not rolling for an increase to CHA, but it's the most relevant to the roll. Your target is to get over 16, which you did, awarding you with a new cantrip.))
As Aelar concentrates, Grimbuld rolls out the map onto the table, and places Aelar's hand on it.
"That's good, keep reaching. Let her guide you." Grimbuld says.
Slowly, Aelar's hand glides over the map until he comes to a stop over a secluded looking rock formation.
"Hmmm. All right." Grimbuld says, folding his arms.
"The old hivebrood nest. Good hiding place, it's been abandoned for years." he says. "If that's where she is, there's ample water sources near by. The marsh where we'll find billhooks isn't too far away, either. It'd be a bad idea to collect water from there, however, at least without purifying it first. This is good news."
As Grimbuld speaks, Kallista begins to feel the effects from mishandling the herbs the first time. The effect is similar to the herbs she encountered in the monastery bathhouse.

Kallista feels strange, but nothing else happens.

Aelar opens his eyes, swaying in his seat at the sudden exhaustion. He steadies himself, then looks down at the map, where his finger is touching it.
'It worked!" he says in a fierce whisper. Looking at the trapper, he says with real gratitude, "Thank you, Mr. Grimbuld, thank you very much! Not only did we find Raia but something passed between us. Our connection is even stronger now and...some part of her power is now part of me." Looking around, he sees a small pebble on the floor by his chair. Picking it up, he considers for a moment, then closes his eyes clearly concentrating on something. Then he opens he eyes, mumbles a few words over the pebble while making a complicated gesture with his free hand.
He looks around at his friends and companions. "l'll bet I, or any of you, could throw this at someone or something and have it do real damage. And I think I can do more than one at a time, maybe as many as three." He looks around but decides there is no place to safely test the pebble in this room.
"What time should we leave in the morning? And what are we going to do about the permits to leave?"
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Kallista takes a deep breath after the feelings subside. "Thank you for giving me another chance Sir."

Grimbuld rubs his chin to Aelar's question.
"We'll be wanting to leave first thing in the morning. The majority of predators are the least active then. The less time we spend in the open at night, the better our chances." he states.
"This is our route." he says, putting his finger to the map and tracing over several landmarks.
He then nods to Kallista.
"It hasn't come easy to you, I know. Herbalism is a craft that demands precision and patience. You'll have plenty of time to practice while we're out, regardless. Consider this a learning experience. While it'd be useful to have you supporting us from the sky, there will be places where you must absolutely stay on the ground or you'll attract more trouble. If all goes well, you won't NEED to fire a single shot. I don't much like the idea of bringing out the bow you used before, however, for this excursion. You'll be using my old bow instead." he says. "it's a longbow, but you should be able to handle it almost as well."
"The first obstacle will be making our way through the old logging grounds. Since it's been abandoned while the trees recover, it's become home to primarily annoying parasites living in the rotting stumps. Burrow worms and stirges, nothing too dangerous unless we somehow stumble upon a swarm." he explains.
"Once past there, we'll swing around the forest proper. Going through it would be foolish. It'll take longer, but if we stay just at the mouth of the woods, we'll avoid both the forest predators and grassland predators. Straddling the territories of predator species is a good way to keep from running into either of them. That'll bring us to the end of our first day. After that, we'll have to do quite a lot of climbing. The ground becomes very rocky as we get to the 'flowerpot steps'. The added elevation will allow us to see trouble coming, even if our progress will be slowed. It's all in the name of traveling by stealth. After we get past the steps, it's half a day's travel to the marsh, and finally past that, the old hivebrood nest, tucked in amidst a series of old eruption caves. There used to be geysers around here that kept the hivebrood warm, but a major eruption all but emptied the hot spring and boiled the hive alive in their burrows." he goes on.
As Grimbuld explains the dangerous in each region and how long they'll spend in each location, Hyre is called to work. Hana will be assisting him in the kitchen, so he may roll with advantage to see if he gets the last success he'll need before gaining cooking proficiency. If he fails, however, it could mean Hana will not take a chance on him for some time. However, a success also means he'll get double the pay he'd get just being a stock boy.
If Lazlo wants, he can try to inspire Hyre with another performance to give him an additional 1D4 to roll, DC 16.

Aelar feels his heart drop a little. "It'll take more than a day to get there, then? I was hoping we could reach her before nightfall tomorrow." He didn't question Grimbuld, he was just disappointed. "Well, that's how it is then."
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Grimbuld shakes his head.
"If luck is with us, we'll reach her by mid-morning on the next day. We're traveling safe, remember. We MAY be fortunate and make up time, but I'm being realistic, and I'm going on the assumption that it won't be safe to travel too long after dusk. A lot will depend on how well you all keep up." he says.
Geoffrey clears his throat.
"Of course, because us old men will have no trouble, not like one of us here is missing an arm or anything." Geoffrey remarks. "And you're definitely not still sporting bandages from a recent encounter with trolls."
Grimbuld grunts and tucks his vest in a little tighter.
((How the group travels will depend largely on how you all roll as a group on athletics and/or survival checks. This is essentially training, so any roll over 13 earns you all another success, and because you'll have two instructors keeping you going with encouragement, you may roll for two successes for the travel. Should anyone in the group fail to roll higher than DC 8, however, those who fail will need help getting back up to speed, whether it be because they failed to calculate a jump, tripped over something and needed time to recover, got tangled up in something, or landed on something that collapsed beneath them, requiring time to stop and get the victim out of their situation. Every failed athletics check loses the group an hour of travel time. Every successful athletics check above 13 reduces their travel time by an hour.
If 3 of you fail your athletics checks, Grimbuld will need to make a survival skill check to make sure the group didn't attract any unwanted attention. Should HE fail the check, the group will have to deal with the local wildlife. You've got two level 6+ escorts with you, so that shouldn't be TOO dangerous, depending on what got their attention.
Grimbuld will be encouraging Kallista to continue her training while they go, so you may roll for medicine.
Now that Hyre has cooking proficiency, his meals have a chance of restoring the group to full good condition should he roll higher than 15.
Also, the cooking proficiency's ability score modifier is INT. Congratulations!))
Hana is very pleased to see Hyre is able to keep up entirely with her for the shift, even as a group of hungry kite stable workers drag their sorry carcasses in after a long day's work. Hana's able to serve them all rapidly, filling their bellies. Carmine and the other satyrs are setting up for an evening performance.
