"Wait! If there is something or someone causing avalanches, we can expect another one. We need to use ropes, probably, to keep us together and protect from getting lost one way or another." Mihris produced one from her backpack but if that was not enough, they sure had some more to bind them together? Once that was done she was ready to head up.
"Who knows the ebest way to go about that... But I can't imagine there is much snow left on this trail; might be best to go along the same path...and be wary of what could come out from the snow." Red adds to the plan. Or the outline of a plan; fully aware that they're pulling strings and threads and hoping for a fish from the icy river so to speak.
Red is initially unable to see anything special from this lower point of view, apart form the disturbed snow and wreckage left behind in the avalanche's path. Your group eventually makes the way up the hill and after a several minutes clearing paths up the rocks and carefully treading ice-covered areas while tied among yourselves, you reach the top of the elevation.
From this advantage point, you are still able to see the road all the away down, just a bit dimmer. Additionally, due to a curve outlining a hill a bit back on the road, this hilltop has a view of the Ten Trail that allows you to see anyone coming through much earlier than they are able to reach the pass. To the north-east, the trail continues towards Ten-Towns and eventually fades among fog and rolling snowy hills, and to the south-east this rocky arm of the Spine of the World mountains rises and joins other more mountainous regions.
Even though the now thickening fog and already setting sun makes it difficult to see, you are clearly able to spot the point from which the avalanche originated, a conical blast of some force that cleared all the snow originating from behind one of the rocky outcroppings at the top. The dark rock of the hill on the bare rock of this area even shows cracks and signs of damage. You can also observe several medium-sized booted footprints around on what's left of the snow at the hilltop, near the rocky area.
((All of you may make an Intelligence (Arcana or Investigation) and a Wisdom (Perception or Survival) checks.))
You all take a moment analyze the terrain at the top of the hill.
Red crouches down and takes a closer look at the cracks over the snow-cleared area, it is roughly 15 ft. in length and width at its longest points, and seems to have applied enough force over the surface to completely clear it of several inches of snow, with enough power left to blast against the dark rock of the hill beneath and crack it. Red does not think that this is the result of the impact of some heavy object, due to the lack of a central point in the cracks, though it is definitely caused by some sort of force specially effective against mineral materials. As Mialee approaches to take a look at the same area, she recalls how some of the more experienced druids of her homeland used spells of thunderous energy to blast away monsters that would encroach on their grove, a spell well off the current reach of her spellcasting, but one she remembers well and matches perfectly with the effects observed here, a Thunderwave spell!
Vanys and Mihris both check the many footprints around the hilltop. The sheer amount of them and the many directions they face suggests that some humanoid creatures were around here for many hours of this day, probably waiting for something to happen. After closely observing, they both conclude that not that many different sets of footprints are around, and probably only two people were here waiting, stopping several times at a points of the hill which faces the curve on the Ten Trail way back (where you came from). The more recent footprints sprinted towards the rocky outcropping which Red and Mialee are crouched down upon, from which the bare rock area originates, and then rush off together running towards the south-east, into the rocky mountains.
"Tracks!" Mihris was so excited she found them, she could not keep it quiet. "Look, over there! Leading to the mountains."Not that she understood what it meant, but at least it proved the avalanche was artificial.
For a moment Mia stops walking and looks down on the world below. A puff of wind strokes her carroty hair and comes back to it's sisters who are wearing white toga and dancing along The Spine of the World. It's beautiful. She thinks. And a perfect place to ambush.
"I've seen this mark before. "Says the little elf crouches beside the crack."There was one time, my parents took me on a field trip. A group of kobolds appeared and tried to attack us. Mom used this spell. Then Kaboom! The kobolds were blown away. They run like a flock of silly sparrows!"The old memory puts a smile on Mia's face. "What's the spell's name? Oh I remember. Thunderwave…it means our enemy is a druid who is much stronger than me"
"Then it's a good thing that you are not alone," Vanys responds to Mia, narrowing his eyes towards the mountains. Still brushing snow off of his shoulder, he continues, "They messed with the wrong people." Looking to the others he asks, "We ready to go? I have a feeling that finding these people is going to be the key to resolving a lot of our confusion back at the caravan."

"We can not stop now anyway. Caravan would have to stop here now to dig up the road, we have some time." Mihris was ready to move forward. "That powerful druid still can have... some not evil intend,"(Mihris really wanted to believe it) "at least we can hope he might want to talk to you, Mia, before attacking us."
Settling up the gear, "I mean.. presumably that was the Goat attempt no? Then the avalanche was for us to knock us down and remove us for a few hours, or to stop the caravan for a few hours." Gesturing at the remains of their gear post avalanche, "If we're lucky that was taxing for them, if not we might get it again. So, keep an eye out and maybe don't clump up too much-but still be nearby."
Red doesn't have any other preperation before we track. Unless folks were wanting to tether to one other person in teams of two. Which would be fine but has good and bads. Either way he's not great at the tracking portion, so he'll opt to be in the back this team to be overwatch while others track and or weakened stay protected.
"I don't know Miri. I don't know if they would talk with me. They have already warned us before we climb up the hill." Mia stares at the footprints. Slowly she starts to walk." But I must try. I know there are druids who hate all civilizations and want to level down all cities. However siding with Auril is a totally different thing. We are mortal enemies beyond remembering. I have to confirm their true intention. And if they are hostile… Miri,Guys, I want to tell you about some druid spell and how to counter them.First how much do you know about our magic?"
Vanys creates a minor illusion of a dark rose in his hand. Then as he closes his hand and dissipates the rose, he shrugs and shakes his head, "My magic is of a much different nature, so I am quite uneducated about natural magics. But are we sure that this is druidic magic? I imagine someone with magic like mine would also be able to create an effect like that."

"I can't do it, but I've worked with folks who've created bombs with simliar properties. The talking Goat is a fair indicator though." Red lights, and implants a single torch into there starting point, forming a point they can see and keep perspective on directions, as well as to spook the caravan slightly with the thought that it wasn't a natural avalanche-to help them be on guard. If the torch lasts long enough in the cold and wind.
"I have seen some of the druidic craft in the grove, but do not possess powers like that myself and might pay less attention to it as I should have. Any explanation will be useful." They did not have much time but Mihris would be the first one to agree - preparations are needed, of course.
The trail of footprints leads you through the rocky slopes on the other side of this hill, which connect to other higher ones close by, and soon enough you're almost losing sight of the torch you stuck at the top of the previous hill. Further ahead you're able to see the footprints become more difficult to follow, specially as they cross rocky patches of terrain bare of snow or get into the pockets of pine trees you're able to spot at a distance, and the increasing snowfall isn't making them any easier to follow either. At times, you're initially glad you've found them once again, only to deduce they were older large canine-shaped paw or cloven hoof prints instead of the ones you were following. As you crest another hill and are still able to barely see the footprints at a distance, it becomes clear that this tracking is going to be an hours-long endeavor, and not some sprint after your assailers.
((Okay, let me know if your characters have any way to enhance the tracking or the journey through this wilderness terrain. Then, let's make 3 group Wisdom (Survival) checks. We may need more checks after that, but let's go with this for the moment.))
