Vanys takes a closer look at the silvery threads as he pulls the boots across and tries to think about any time he might have seen anything like it with a little help from Mihris.
Neither Mihris nor Vanys have any formal knowledge or will ever have the ability to reproduce this effect through their own abilities, though you've heard of a rather common incantation applied to the private sanctums of wizardly orders or reclusive casters to warn them of intruders—the Alarm spell. However, this effect shouldn't be visible at all, a clear failure in the spell's casting, this one must have been casted by someone in training, or by some hedge wizard through a scroll or other means more powerful than the caster itself.
However badly cast, you know that tugging at the barely visible glittering lines hanging roughly in a 20 ft. cube in the area just before the ice bridge will probably warn someone of your entry. Both Gaoch and Mathis approach behind you at the corridor, the latter asks "What's the matter?"
"Alarm,"laconically answered Mihris, pointing at the threads. "Amateurish but still effective. We step on the bridge - someone will know and come, or worse."She shook her head "I do not know how to get rid of it. Either we risk it and go through or..."She did not finish, "or" was obvious - go home. Sitting and waiting with some crazy rithual on the way was even less viable option.
Vanys immediately recognizes the threads and nods at Mihris's analysis although he shakes his head when she mentions getting rid of it. "What if we don't need to get rid of it," Vanys suggests. "Now that we know that it's there, we can use it to lure out whoever is in there discussing and ambush them. Use their own trap against them."

(GM ffew Q's. How far from our side, to the other side. How deep is the chasm thing. and where with respect to those, is the alarm line area exactly? I c an't quite quantify distances from the last map last time I looked. and currently it won't actually load for me.)
At that suggestion Red pulls out a small cooper tubing with a hole inside, a small needle pointing out. "Well.. I feel like they would just bunker and hold their door d own instead of investigating... but if they do come out. I might be able to pull them over with this. Otherwise...we search deeper around or for another direction."
Functionally I don't see a reason they would come investigate. If they're close to finishing they'd close up or fortify I imagine. but the only other option I see is rushing forward. Or searching around for another pathway, or some tools.
" I have another idea. If we trigger the alarm, the cultists will at least send someone to investigate. What if they can't find something dangerous? What if they find…" Mia gently pads her pocket and awakes her little friend. "… A mouse accidentally triggers it? Couldn't it let their guard down? Oh by the way, do you have any treats? Like raisins or something? Mike becomes quite foodie since he started to work with us"
(OOC: If everyone agrees, Mia will send Mike to trigger the alarm while other members hide in the shadows. Also do you think we still need the improvised crampons? Mia's plan may fail, if the cultist find that there are boots lost)
(Why would they kill a mouse? Not to mention, any sane mouse will run away the moment it's being seen)
"Sounds like a good idea. If they do come out to check." Mihris gave Red an unsure look. "Your fear is very reasonable but if this is a ritual, you can not speed it up in any way. They would have to send someone to stall whatever is coming. Our "mousetrap" could still work. I say we try it."
(I would kill the mouse that may continually trigger the alarm spell and cause us security issues. Same reason standard guards in the real world maintain Pest Control so motion camera aren't triggered. )
"The risk wouldn't be so high. Do you remember? Mike already crossed the bridge to return to me. He could have triggered the alarm once. And I won't let Mike stay long enough so that cultists can hurt him. The moment someone appears and can see Mike, he will run to our direction. If bad guys chase the mouse to kill him, then we are going to ambush them just like Van said. If they turn back and return that means their guards are down. We can try to cross the bridge. Either way I think this "Mouse step" is a more secure way than just charging to the bridge or looking for another direction. " And then Mia has another idea. "… Or we can just poke the alarm, run to the shadows and let Mike squeak aloud. This can do the same trick."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vanys thinks for a second and then agrees, "Let's let Mike cross. That way, we don't risk being seen at all. I can also set up a larger illusion for all of us to hide behind in case we can't find any good hiding spots here." With that, Vanys starts looking around for places that they might be able to hide.
Before Mialee is able to set Mike the mouse loose over the ice bridge, Vanys attunes to the darkness around him and concentrates on his heightened senses, looking at every detail ahead. One thing that he had seen before, but not quite understood, catches the sorcerer's sight—one of the crampon boots on the other side of the bridge behind the woden crates is... moving? You can barely see the tip of it behind the crates, but the boot is heel-down and point up and seems to be slowly swaying from one side to the other, as would a bored person be doing it leisurely. The cold creek continues rushing 20ft below the ice bridge at this area.
((hello, folks! sorry for the delay, dad got bumped by a car this week and had a couple of fractures, been helping him out at the hospital, but he's OK and almost back home after the surgeries. also, finally got my 1st astrazeneca shot yesterday and been a bit woozy 😁 I've marked the Alarm-ed area with red, roughly a 15ft cube right before the bridge, the creek crevasse was only 10ft deep back at the larger chamber, though its 20ft below the ice bridge since you had to climb a few steps to get here))
Vanys almost jumps in surprise when he notices the moving boot. His finger is instantly at his lips as he hushes the other members of the group and whispers, "There is a moving boot on the other side of the bridge. Someone is wearing the boot." Vanys shakes his head in disappointment, "That complicates things. It means someone might have already seen us. Should we just go in guns blazing then? Can someone knock that person out without seeing them fully?"

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
It took some time for Mihris to process the "moving boot" thing, but when she understood, she shook her head. "Not me, would not know how to do it. But maybe "mouse alarm" will draw the boot owner out? And we here will be ready to attack."
(Glad its smoothing out a bit. so the cube is 15ft. looks like another 10-15ft to where I assume the boot is? So even if he stood up, and Red stoo at the edge, its a bit too far away for his pull trick.)
Red like wise shrugs, "Mouse it up. maybe they'll walk over and I can yoink em? Or at least we can get a look at them... if they don't s ee us."
After a brief scare at the sight of the partially hidden boot wearer, the group settles on the previous plan again as Mike the mouse practically jumps from Mialee's hand to her knee, then to the cold floor. The rat scurries forward, scratching and testing parts of the icy bridge at random, eventually into the area covered by the barely visible silvery lines... to no effect, no sound of alarm. Mike continues forward until he reaches the other side of the bridge and jumps at the full sight of the boot wearer hiding behind the wooden crates, turning back to face the group with a puzzled face while squeaking low. If the boot wearer caught sight of Mike, they don't seem to think much of it.
Hmmm... That was not accounted for. "Maybe it only works with humanoids." The conclusion was obvious but someone had to say it. "Guess it's either rushing through as a group or one of us simply walk in there, risking to be shot, while others prepare to fight as soon as the "boots" come out." Mihris looked at everyone. "The time is precious, we need to act. I volunteer to be the bait".
(To clarify as its b een quite a while and I am having hard time tfinding the page.... Did we take anything from any of the previous guards we took? I'm wondering if its key'd to an item for safe passage~ but if we didn't take anything ignore that idea).
Red breaths out watching the frostbitten breath and the snow and ice around him."It seems like the best plan... but I'll go. That bridge is going to be a problem. I've got a dumb plan. I'll try to jump across all at once-and if he runs I"ll try to yoink him back. Whether I make it or not focus on the target at hand. The rest of you hammer him when he stands, or cover up his alarm shout if you've got the means." taking a moment to hand off his saddle pack, but retaining his healing potion, "This is dumb but best bet... If you've got a god better pray." Stating as much, Red clicks his heels briefly, takes a running position and waiting until everyone is ready.
(Not sure if there is an illusion on the other side showing an empty bridge.. but if thats doable while being ready to attack, might give an edge). (Guidance would not be opposed). (The plan. When folks are ready. Red will use Expeditious Retreat to gain more movement. 30ft ffrom move and 30ft from dash bonus action. That'll help with the slower terrain. Then he'll leap 10ft (str mod) across the bridge. Which looks like it will clear the bridge, or almost clear the bridge. At least the momentum and sliding will be less likely to fall into the pit. His action will either be used to grasp the edge if he is falling. Otherwise he will have Thorn Whip ready to hit the person when they show themselves. This will either prevent them from running very far. Or pull them over the boxes giving the other 3 clearer attacks on them.) (THorn whip is 30ft so if i want to pull him I can't do it from far.. I do have a diferent ranged one though if Mihiris truly wants to do it instead. Not sure if the higher movement is actually needed... I'm just assuming so in order to cover the whole distance of bridge and alarm all at one turn.)
