(I thought the idea was to get Emboldening Bond before any action or talking?)
"We did and we got a warning - the one you are about to blame is not a criminal and if you kill him, you will pay with your life and the lives of everyone in that caravan. Do you really mean to say, that in the place, where no one asks questions about the past and where everyone does have a past he would not want to share, someone would truly suspect you are harboring a criminal? Why would anyone even think that? And how would they find out? Though, the main question, are you truly willing to risk the life of everyone in the caravan by pinning the blame on the innocent?"
Ignazio seems puzzled at Mihris' words, "The one I'm about to blame?" he produces a rolled piece of stained parchment from one of his pockets, "You see, right here I have something you lack on your claims so far... proof." he pockets the paper once again, "And how can you be so sure of the one I'm to blame?"
Vanys raises his eyebrows when Ignazio claims to have proof. "I'm not sure what exactly proof you think you have, but no crime has yet been committed here to my knowledge and even then, your 'proof' may be tampered with. Do you mind if we take a look at it? Worst case scenario, we would have seen it at the trial, at the very least, this just gives us a little more time to ruminate the evidence. With regards to proof of our own, if you would just delay the trial a little we may be able to acquire the proof you seek." With in-depth responses to his other questions, Vanys hopes to just skate over the last question as he isn't really sure how they know that the person to be put on trial is innocent other than the suddenness of the trial and the discovery of the fake Warduke.
Ignazio rolls his eyes impatiently and produces the parchment from his pocket once again, showing it after Vanys' request. The rolled out parchment clearly states: "WANTED BY THE FLAMING FIST: EDGAR PROSPERO" in stamped letters, along with a gold reward, listed crimes, and instructions to escort him alive and manacled to a certain Flame Margusan in Baldur's Gate. "There you go... My guards took this from the pack of one of our esteemed travelers, you can see the drawing is fairly on point." he points to the inked depiction of the young human male with a nervous look about him. Ignazio snorts before even seeing your reactions as he draws back the parchment and rolls it, "And keep your mouths shut about this for now, eh?" he shakes his head and sighs, "And I'm sure Emial has other information from the Lord's Alliance, too. This is not what I'd want done, no. But bringing a known criminal into Bryn Shander... You know what they are doing every new moon there? Actually no better than what we're about to do here, people might prefer to take their chances in the snow." he shakes his head in a mix of hopelessness and frustration, "We're about an hour away from the old stone pillar which we've chosen to place the trial in, you've got that time for your proof." he states bluntly before he turns and starts heading back towards his wagon.
The whole parchment reads:
"WANTED BY THE FLAMING FIST: EDGAR PROSPERO"
"Young human male of Tethyrian descent, considered dangerous. Escaped from the Seatower of Balduran in Baldur's Gate and last heard from in the vicinity of Luskan."
(fairly good ink drawing of the human male you've seen at the back of the caravan)
"Crimes: Assaulting a Patriar Noble, Littering, Theft, Vandalism, and Hampering Justice."
"A reward of 400 gold coins is offered to the delivery of this criminal alive to Flame Margusan."
The seals of the Lord's Alliance and of the Flaming Fist are stamped at the bottom.
"Assuming this is not a forgery, why not simply arrest the man? Chain him? I am pretty sure anyone in the city would be happy to get such a handful reward. I will be as if you brought the gold to that person - in the city. And then let the city decide, while our caravan passes safely. Do you hear what we are saying? It is not about your reputation, it is a matter of your - and everyone's! - life here."
Ignazio seems as if he intended to just look over his shoulder and shrug, but grows so frustrated at Mihris' words that he turns around ad takes a few steps back, "All so simple to you, ain't it?" he pauses for a moment, an annoyed look on his face "In Bryn Shander, next new moon, Speaker Shane herself would order this fellow to be tied to a wooden post with barely any clothes and left to die overnight. One sacrifice a month to appease the Frostmaiden, that's what they're doing. I'm letting him out before that... I call it mercy." he speaks irritatedly and rather loudly, attracting the eyes of a few guards nearby, "I've no authority in Ten-Towns to chain anyone. But I do have authority over my caravan, and I don't want mine or any of my traveler's reputations and businesses tarnished over some criminal that decided to tag along. People talk, words fly fast over here." he sighs, trying to calm down, "If anyone's dragging this man along all the way south to Baldur's Gate for Flaming Fist coin, be my guest." he says with emphatic hand motions before turning once again and heading back to his wagon.
"Mihris did not stop Ignazio but instead looked at the rest of the group. "May be that is a way indeed? We take the man, let the caravan pass and then either follow or return. After all, we just learned what is causing all the troubles here. People brought it on themselves installing Auril as the high goddess and paying her with human sacrifices. We can save the man and let the mainland know about happenings here. What do you say?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mia was anxiously watching the conversation between her friends and the caravan master. And when Ignazio tries to return his wagon, she makes up her mind. The little elf casts guidance at herself and steps forward. "… Please wait master Ignazio! I know you are in a difficult position and frustrated. But my friend's intentions are good. We only want to help your people. My friend Mihris is a priestess of Eldath. And I'm the druid of High Forest. We saw a great danger awaiting us on the next pass. Please tell us about the pass so we can prepare and save the caravan! " While she speaks to the caravan master, Mia flicks a look at Mithann and Email, trying to see how they react to her words.
( I'm sorry. The timeline is a bit confusing but Mia talks to the caravan master before Mihris speaks to the party)
Ignazio turns around at a distance, looking at Mialee a little less annoyed and more resigned and shaking his head with wide open arms, "I know, I know. Let's just hope for the best." he sighs, "It's a narrow pass between hillocks some way after the pillar. Wind has died down a bit and we got many guards. We'll be fine, girl." he speaks in a calming but somewhat disconnected way, his mind still seemingly running the previous conversation as he continues to distance himself from you.
Your read:
You basically stare into their souls:
Ignazio: The Caravan Master just wants to get it over with. He does not seem to have arrived into the decision on his own, but he sees the trial as inevitable and has found undeniable evidence that he should banish the man in the Wanted Poster. He genuinely does not like what he is about to do, but thinks it's better than bringing the man to Bryn Shander and having him tied to a post overnight there. He also trusts the Warduke and the Priestess will have similar judgements.
Emial: The bald man looks at you strangely from a distance as you speak, he seemingly can't place you correctly in his mind, unable to decide whether the event last night actually happened or not, if he'd seen and known you before or not. You see him jump at the mention of the pass, looking briefly over his shoulder at the back of the caravan when you do, then he continues to stare at you and scratch his chin in thought, his already severe-looking features twisting even more into a frown and his fingers fidgeting absently with a golden signet ring on his finger.
Mithann: The priestess looks puzzled, but somewhat hopeful at your interaction with Ignazio. She is seemingly satisfied with the fact that other information lead you to plead with Ignazio for what you just did, and troubled at the mention of the pass, unsure of what to make of it, but her hand instinctively clutch her leather bag closer to her body.
Just when Mia tries to observe the priestess and the imposter, she feels her physical sight blurs and her inner sight sharpens. (It's the same! Same as the time I saw the Great Oak of Kuldahar!)
Mia realizes herself as a branch of the great being. She makes plants sprout and helps flowers bloom. Animals consume her to survive and return to her when they die. She experienced life, death and rebirth numerous times. She has thousands of names and thousands of faces. She is called the great mother, the goddess of all things and the archenemy of the Frostmaiden.
Mia senses nature herself is siding with her, seeing things through her great vision. The amount of information is overwhelming. The little elf feels dizzy and holds her friend to keep standing.
"… Thank you for your kindness, caravan master. We will do our best to make everyone safe." Mia pulls Mihris's arm and whispers. "…Miri, I saw a vision! A real one! Help me, I, I need to rest…"

Vanys notices Mia's instability and frowns for a brief second before quickly masking his expression and responding to Mihris, "Leaving the caravan at a precarious time would be dangerous. If we leave now, then we doom the caravan to its fate once they make it to the pass. Perhaps it would be better to stick with the plan of just offering the exile some resources and staying with the caravan to defend it. Besides, if this man really is a criminal and not just some innocent person, then would it really be all that bad to let him perish in the cold? After all, we don't have any information saying that this is intended as a sacrifice. It was just an assumption we made given that we thought an innocent person was going to be exiled." As he talks, he starts leading the others back towards their original position in the caravan, away from the fake warduke, priestess, and caravan master.
(OOC: I may have just missed it... But if Mia did indeed find evidence that this exile was intended to be a sacrifice then I can go back and edit my post... Let me know!)
Mihris caught Mia and helped her to sit and take the breath. "Take it easy, dear, catch your breath and tel what you saw." That could be an arguement.. albiet a weak one. More so with a Warduke statement-Which we have no proof is a falsehood. We lack evidence ultimately. " Letting it linger briefly before continuing
"I do however, find it odd that they seemingly got a warrant from travler... and they're simply assuming its truth. I tend to wonder if it was from the Warduke-or the preistess' nightmare."
"I am not saying that we should condemn one person to death. But if one person must die so that we are able to prevent the death's of every other person in this caravan at the pass. Then I must say that there isn't even a choice." Vanys looks nonchalant about this, and it appears that he really doesn't want to let this person die, and especially not as a sacrifice to Auril, but is worried about just abandoning the caravan entirely to cart the criminal back to Baldur's Gate. "Besides, you said that you had the means to provide this person with some sustenance, and I doubt we would strip him of his clothing so he would at least have some warmth and food. I'm sure we could sneak him a tinderbox if need be, but trying to take him back ourselves would be foolish, I think."

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
(Mia, Mihris, Red and Vanys were traveling together with this caravan for quite some time, keeping in the same wagon and seen by others as one group. Does not it sound as enough time to you?
I understood parchment part as it was about the" young human male with a nervous look about him" that non of us was talking with (not Arcenio). The parchment itself was found in "the pack of one of our esteemed travelers". Why the pack was searched I have no idea, but looks like "The Duke" "might have other information from the Lord's Alliance too".
The caravan had barely moved a few minutes this day when you see as one of Ignazio's wagons is stopped sideways on the road ahead, forcing the wagons behind to stack near it and closer into view in the now thinner fog, Ignazio himself stands atop the wagon, his waving arms demanding the attention of all, shouting for all to hear with paused and firm sentences “Dear travelers! We have important matters to discuss! I’ve shared my concerns and those of our blessed Mithann and esteemed Warduke Emial with a few of you, and most have agreed that something needs to be done. We will not bring along with us, honest workers, the foul miscreants that seek shelter among us into Ten-Towns, lest it tarnish our reputations as fair folk and bring their misdeeds upon this already troubled land. We approach the waystone where giants of the past gathered to decide upon their paths, let their wisdom and our collective judgement merge in order for us to drive out criminals and even possible cultists from our midst.” with that, Ignazio climbs down from his wagon and the whole caravan sets out on the move once again, picking up pace towards the waystone.
Whenever the caravan reaches a higher part of the ups and downs and the thinning fog allows, its almost possible to make out a dark ruined structure jutting out of a snowy hill far ahead. You have little less than an hour before the caravan reaches it.
((BlueBayou is correct, the poster drawing did not seem like either Arsenio or the noble accompanying him, but rather looked like the second to last fellow in the caravan (in the "Caravan at a Glance" list here. Also, the journey from Luskan to Bryn Shander would take about 20 days in regular conditions, with the Everlasting Rime in effect your caravan is already beyond that and with a few days still to go.))
(Ah so not inhernetly someeone we know seemingly. and not someone we'd have run into. Other than potentially in passing when Red talked to the back end guard. )
"Well that was an ostentatious display to tilt the peoples' thought long before the trial... They're not even thinking about a fair one. How're we playing this? There is the sheer fact the Duke is a fake. We have no proof if that though-other than stating it and hoping they trip up... At worst we'd be tossed out' at best they call for verification if he doesn't have something that he used to prove to ignazio already. I'm not seeing a lot of options we can take that don't rely on extremes and luck." Blowing out a long sigh upwards creating a small ice mist, and lamenting his lack of forsight here.
Vanys just shakes his head. He has made his opinions known to the group, but her recognizes that any action taken must be taken together, and so if all of the others are dead set on trying to save the criminal at the cost of the rest of the caravan, then he has little choice.

(As a bit of OOC; Red isn't opposed inherently to criminal punishement. But currently there isn't an tangible proof of of crime nor of the punishment. Seemingly the proof most likely came from someone who admited their own falshood. The Bounty also didn't state punishable by death; it requested alive not dead w/ proof or alive. So. Currently Red is mainly angling at "False Warduke and possibly false priestess plot" more than "bounty criminal")

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
