I'm thinking of having a game with a limitation that to learn a new spell, characters have to go on an adventure to get it rather than gain it automatically on a new level. They can get a spell by finding a spell scroll lost in an ancient and deadly mage's tomb or something like that.
Given this limitation, I think my players would benefit from having starting spells that scale with higher levels early on. So if anyone's already got a list of this, AWESOME! That would help me a lot.
Note: I'm specifically talking about spells that use spell slots. I'm not too concerned with cantrips as they are exempt from the houserule. Also, I just need a list of the Basic Rules spells, I don't need every single spell as I understand how exhausting that would be.
Unfortunately, Dndbeyond doesn't offer a "Search Description" filter for their spells list. However, you can fake it a bit by creating a 20th level character and adding every spell of the relevant level and seeing which spells auto-populate as upcastable.
You can also search for "At higher levels" in the search bar at the top of the page, but that seems to cap out at 35 results.
It is worth mentioning that although not all spells scale, any spell can be cast with a slot higher than the spell level. Even though Misty Step doesn’t have benefits for casting at a higher level, you can still cast Misty Step with a 9th level spell slot.
