Hi, it's late, I know. But I gotta get this off my chest tonight!
A thought crossed my mind when I was thinking on the backstory of a Rogue Warlock.
The whole schpeel with this character I have is that they've dawned their appearance of a fictional character they've seen in magazines. He lives his thievery as an anatomy among the world as this character, who mimics this once perceived fictional character, perfectly and without a clear background. It has even gone to the point that the law needs any answers they can find on this phenomenon. They've arrested the Author of the magazines, heavily investigating the company that owns copyright on this character, and has put all the actors who played the character, in any small or big gig, into custody.
Now here I am, in the slumber of the night, writing this to ask one question: (Two questions, in a short bit. I lied.)
"Is it possible that Changelings can take on the appearance of a fictional character or a real person on a photo?"
If no, then it's back to the drawing board for me tomorrow, I guess... :( If yes, explain how the rules allow this.
OH! One more thing! As long as we're talking about Changelings, about the UA racial feature I've been very intrigued in, 'Divergent Persona". I really think it's really cool we can further customize our Shapechanger abilities! (If you're unfamiliar with the ability google it, I rather not take my chances hyperlinking something in any thread)
Though I will ask this from you all, (but you don't have to, cuz it's not a part of the thread.)
"Is Divergent Persona broken in any way? Is it considered overpowered?"
Its UA, and UA is already shaky as it is. Every table I'm in currently sitting in banned UA content, and I can really see why. (Holy Spear Mastery, batman!) But gosh-darn it! This racial feature is so cool!
Tell me about your thoughts, and thanks a ton for coming in on my thread! -Scrub

The Changelings ability 'Shapechanger' says:
You can’t duplicate the appearance of a creature you’ve never seen
It doesn't specify how you must see the creature, so presumably a picture or painting would suffice, although that would be down to your DM.

Divergent Persona was removed from Changeling when it was published and the UA version has been depreciated.

As a matter of fact, in the Eberron book, if you go to the Changeling section, there is art that appears to show a changeling transforming into the appearance of a humanoid in a painting.
"Not all those who wander are lost"
Wow, that is a good spot! There you go

But how accurate is the representation in the painting? :-)
Let's hope the painting isn't some cubism by Picasso.
This was exactly what I was thinking when I read the title. "There is literally official art of exactly this happening."

Thank you all for posting your feedback! (Also, I'm really dumb. There's official art about the race and it flew over my head when I was making it.)
Other than having a brief explanation on 'Divergent Persona', I'd consider this thread to be answered!
Thank you all once again! -Scrub
