It says, quote: "If damage from this spell kills a target, the target is turned to ash."
Out of curiosity, if the spell were to be used on a player character, would they be turned to ash when they reach 0hp, or if they run out of death saves while the spell is on effect?
I know most rule that when a enemy reaches 0hp, they're dead, so I was wondering if that would apply here.
(Yes, I'm thinking of having a enemy npc have this spell, and I want to know if the players will be at risk of loseing their character if it KOs them, so I can plan around that possibility. Also, I know I could rule that it does, but I want to know if there's a official statement on the matter.)
(In short, does it work like disintegrate, (0hp=Thanos snapped) or does it only dust a PC If they run out of death saves while on fire?)
EDIT:That's what i thought, thanks for the confirmation!

immolation would turn a PC to ash if it was the cause of their final death save failure (either cast of them after 2 or if they carried on burning).
Its niche, but this would prevent spells like revivify as there is no body to touch.
It kills them 2 turns after dropping to 0 from the burn damage.
