And yet, it's really not.
Can we all agree that a Steel Defender is a Construct as described in its stat block and that a Construct is a Type of Monster as described by the Monster Manual?
This exchange is not productive and beside the point.
If you want to debate whether a Construct is a creature or not I would recommend starting a separate thread instead of derailing this one.
Constructs are creatures -- it's not ambiguous. I understand that in fiction, things that would likely be categorized as constructs if they were in D&D are often subject to in-universe questions of "is it really human/sapient/alive?" It's sort of the most popular thing to do with them in fiction. That's beside the point: they're definitely creatures.
