How do lineages work at character creation? Could i make a owlin hexblood at character creation and get 30 fly speed? or at character creation do i just get hexblood traits.
If you are choosing a Lineage at character creation you are only that lineage, any "previous race" is irrelevant. If, however, you become a lineage after character creation then the lineages usually tell you what you keep and what you lose (I think under the "Ancestral Legacy" section).
from the Dhampir, Hexblood, Reborn:
Ancestral Legacy
If you replace a race with this lineage, you can keep the following elements of that race: any skill proficiencies you gained from it and any climbing, flying, or swimming speed you gained from it.
If you don’t keep any of those elements or you choose this lineage at character creation, you gain proficiency in two skills of your choice.
This only applies if you were already a character and at some point, in the campaign, your race is replaced by the lineage. But if you are in character creation, you just ignore the Ancestral Legacy section and only have the other race traits.
Ok thank you :) how does replacing your race with a lineage work tho? is it when you level up you can change it or is it basically your dm can decide if they want it
Yes talk to your Dm about it. When it applies is basically a DMs ruling. You just need to fullfill the condition of gaining the respective lineage, by story or campaing events.

If your DM allows it, yeah go ahead. Lineages are the best flying races, since flying races don't have many traits to lose, so it is all gain.
