So in the campaign ive just joined i am playing a vampire cleric of light who uses a crossbow, whos backstory summed up is that her dad (a vampire) turned her, then gave her away to the church as a distraction from them thinking hes unholy himself, then during the exorcism the god that this church worshipped took pity and decided to spare her life. I was thinking in the future as my character develops i could multiclass into ranger so i could take the favoured enemy of undead, and use my crossbow as a mean to shoot wooden stakes.
would this work as a decent build, and if so what subclasses of ranger should i look at?
in case it helps, she has high wisdom and dex but low strength so she doesnt use physical weapons, and she has light armour with a shield
Gloomstalker or monster hunter (vampire) tak to your D about “vampire poisons” like coating the stakes in garlic juices or soaking them in holy water .
The Gloom Stalker ranger is by far one of the most powerful subclasses for a Ranger, though I think the Monster Slayer subclass fits the motif you seem to be going for as they seem to specialize more in the theme of Vampire Hunter. If your DM allows it, you might also take a look at the Blood Hunter class introduced by Critical Role's Matthew Mercer. It's not an official class, but it is the only one recognized by many DM's and is even useable here on D&D Beyond's character creation. It very much has the Monster Slayer Ranger vibe, can rely on your Wisdom Modifier, and has a lot of blood-based curses that also seem on brand. I myself played a Dexterity-based Dhampir Blood Hunter not long ago that thought it was quite fun.
First off...COOL concept! As others have said, the GS Ranger is pretty much tailor-made for hunting things that hide in the dark. Cleric is a good dip for this since you get your subclass traits with one level.

gloom stalker is good for character with high wisdom
also that is a pretty dope character build and backstory
Ranger works well, allows you to do better against undead with favored enemy, I would advise and XGE subclass.
