"In a fight, everyone is constantly watching for a chance to strike an enemy who is fleeing or passing by. Such a strike is called an opportunity attack.
You can make an opportunity attack when a hostile creature that you can see moves out of your reach. To make the opportunity attack, you use your reaction to make one melee attack against the provoking creature. The attack occurs right before the creature leaves your reach.
You can avoid provoking an opportunity attack by taking the Disengage action. You also don't provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction. For example, you don't provoke an opportunity attack if an explosion hurls you out of a foe's reach or if gravity causes you to fall past an enemy."
Shoving a Creature
Using the Attack action, you can make a special melee attack to shove a creature, either to knock it prone or push it away from you. If you’re able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them.
The target must be no more than one size larger than you and must be within your reach. Instead of making an attack roll, you make a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target’s Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). You succeed automatically if the target is incapacitated. If you succeed, you either knock the target prone or push it 5 feet away from you.
No. This is addressed in the rules for Opportunity Attacks which states: "You also don’t provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction."
From your own post: "You also don't provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction. "
If the text in the rules for opportunity attacks for some reason isn't enough then the SAC is pretty clear about it too.
Does Polearm Master let me make an opportunity attack against a target that is being forced to approach me?
A creature doesn’t provoke an opportunity attack if it is moved without the use of its movement, its action, or its reaction. For example, the effect of the antipathy/sympathy spell requires the target to use its movement, meaning that it would provoke opportunity attacks when it does so.
Similarly, dissonant whispers requires the target to move using its reaction (if available), so that activity also provokes opportunity attacks. In contrast, a creature that’s pushed by a gust of wind spell does not provoke opportunity attacks.
Yeah. The topics where I have seen the discussion brought up have been mostly people confused on what makes a creature use their movement vs what is simply taking said creature from A and putting it on B.

No, for shove the literal wording of the ability means it only works when the target moves under their own volition.
Other abilities, such as Moonbeam, DO trigger if you shove them into the area.
It's so nice being able to come to the forums to find people who actually know what they are talking about instead of spending days and days arguing with someone over basic wording of how something words vs how they wished it worked. I may cry from sheer joy.
By RAW, no you cannot provoke opportunity attacks if a creature is shoved out of your reach. Although, I think it is cool and allow opportunity attacks to work as such in my games. Also It gives a nice little addition to the shield master feat, allowing you to possibly get an opportunity attack after your main attack.
No. I don't think it should, since it would break the game. SO many different things would trigger an AOO if such things were allowed. Is it a rule of cool type thing? Sure. Should people be able to do what they want and how they want at their tables if the table agrees that is how it should work? Absolutely. The question wasn't "At my table, could this work?" The question or idea presented behind the threads in question was "Is this how Shove an AOO works?" The answer is 100% no. That isn't how AOO works. Can you allow it at your table for you and your friends? Sure. Go for it.
It's the kind of thing that sounds cool until you think about it for just a few more seconds. Immediately, Warlocks come to mind - Grasp of Hadar/Repelling Blast become instant staples, allowing each of the melee characters another attack per turn at the cost of basically nothing. The Telekinetic feat becomes pretty bonkers. Forced movement is so common partly because of the exemption from opportunity attacks - without the exemption, these features just don't get created in the first place.
Several defensive actions suddenly become non-options too, like the Psi Warrior's Telekinetic Movement, or even simply shoving an ally out of a grapple.
Guys, sorry to get off topic a little bit, but do you believe that psi-leap generates an attack of opportunity?
I ask because this skill as well as teleport and other race skills do not consume any action, movement or reaction, being possible to use them freely before or after the leap.

Do you mean the Psi Warrior feature, Psi-Powered Leap?
"Psi-Powered Leap. As a bonus action, you can propel your body with your mind. You gain a flying speed equal to twice your walking speed until the end of the current turn. Once you take this bonus action, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest, unless you expend a Psionic Energy die to take it again."
This just gives you a flying speed for the turn. You'd still move normally and take attacks of opportunity.

THANK YOU! Finally, people who get it!!!

My brother in Christ, the question is do you think it should. The guy is not asking what the actual rule is.

The rule exists because it improves the game.
