Ok. I have a pretty OP character for a one shot. Out DM asked us to get max health for a lvl 15 character cuz this being a one shot he wants us all optimized for truly deadly encounters.
The thing is I got pretty high armor but the calculation seems off. The character builder says I have 20 amor, but how? I picked a legendary studded leather +3, has a base of 15. Why do I have 20? And why not just give the armor a flat armor stat, giving it a "plus" seems redundant because it only works when you wear it... I know it maybe to make the item magical. But still, having bonus AC on an armor that only gives that AC if you wear it feels, again, redundant.
Back to the main question. If studded leather's base AC is 15 and gives +3 while wearing it, why do I have 20 armor? My dex is +5, so if Dex is used to calculate, why is it 20 and not 23 instead?
Yes that's correct, the base AC of the armor is 15. Nonmagical Studded Leather Armor is 12, and the +3 makes it 15. I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from?
They should reword it then. It makes it look like the base AC is 15 then +3 = 18.
That's the other thing I said. Just flatout call it 15 ac +DEX mod. They are making things confusing. But i guess that's DND in a nutshell.
They ARE flat out calling it 15 AC. Just because the item has a description that lets you know it's effect doesn't mean you need to apply it twice. The description tells you it has a +3 over "normal" Studded Leather. Therefore instead of the 12 AC it usually gives, it gives 15 AC. I think you're confusing yourself with the rules, and the rules aren't that confusing this time around (which, funny enough, is ALSO D&D in a nutshell).
It factors in the +3 for that number. So the Ac of 15 is WITH the +3 already and as stated before it sounds like you have a 20 dex so that is a +5 to your ac equaling the 20 ac you have in the picture.
Base ac for leather armor is 12 You have a +3 leather armor so now its a 15 you have a 20 dex so that's another +5 to your ac
12+3+5=20 15+5= 20
Same things just simplified nothing more.

Yea... not quite adding up. Like i said. The base AC of this armor is 15.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
