so i know you can purchase other backgrounds to have more variety from the ones available for free. so i wanted to know the different bgs availale [as in like post the bgs with thier description and link to which module i can purchase them from] cause im making a new character but i wanna know what more i could do with them outside of the base stuff thats available.
You can also filter to a specific source if you just want to see backgrounds from certain books. Keep in mind that backgrounds from some sources only make sense if you're playing the adventure they come with (Ravnica backgrounds, for example), so if you pick an exotic one just run it by your DM.
I recommend looking at the Saltmarsh and Acquisitions Incorporated backgrounds. I've made several characters with them, and IMO they're fun backgrounds. The Acq Inc ones can be a bit silly if you want some comedic flair.
does anyone know if it's possible to purchase the backgrounds individually? I don't want to have to buy the player handbook for 1 background, but when I follow the link it only let's me buy the entire book
The skill proficiencies, tool proficiencies, and languages are really all that are mechanically relevant and the rest is just flavor.
Geez that’s a stupid move imo- no way I would purchase an entire book for a couple items…where before, ‘sure I’ll spend $5 for those options’. Maybe I’m the minority

You're not in the minority. There's multiple threads around here about it calling out WotC for the terrible practice.

The background features can have a mechanical impact some of it depends on the DM and what the background and campaign are but hear are a couple of examples.
Acolyte: If you get into combat in or close to an urban area you should be able to get healed up afterwards without using resources
Nobel: Access to the nobility of the town is often a quick route to contracts with better rewards
Sage: Fail an int based skill check and at least most of the time you know where you can find the information
Sailor: For most hiring a sea passage is expensive but a sailor can usually get free passage in return for work.

You can find a list of all backgrounds here, along with links to buy them: https://www.dndbeyond.com/backgrounds.

Apparently DnDBeyond recently changed their marketplace to no longer support the purchase of game features a la carte: https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747224960788-FAQ-D-D-Beyond-Sales
Although Backgrounds specifically would be an odd thing to want to purchase anyways as there are rules for just making up your own in the freely available in the basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#CustomizingaBackground
