Really depends upon what you really want. Do you want an axe that looks comical but deals a normal amount of damage or do you want an axe that is big enough to get additional damage die (like Gurt's Greataxe).
If all you are going for is looks then be an Artificer and take the "Returning Weapon" infusion.
Or you could ask your DM to allow for a thrown/returning weapon. The Dwarven Thrower is a very rare item but it is an +3 weapon with an additional damage die, if you stick to just the thrown/returning features it could probably be just an uncommon item and then it could show up at lower levels.
I don’t want a hand axe. That’s the only axe with the “thrown” property. I’m pretty sure the Artificer Infusion you mentioned requires a weapon that already has “thrown” as a property.
I’d settle for a battle axe, but the point is to use the biggest axe this guy could find. Hence the Great Axe.
I know there’s a popular home brew feat that allows you to turn any Melee weapon into a “thrown” weapon, but I didn’t want to rely on home brew.

If you are looking for the mechanical benefits of having a big axe then your best bet is to ask your DM to create an axe modelled on the Dwarven Thrower.

If homebrew isn't an option then you pretty much are out of luck because the designers apparently don't think big axes ar good for throwing. AFAIK the only axe (bigger than a handaxe) that can be thrown is the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords but I wouldn't bet on finding that easy to get your hands on.
Wtf does “AFAIK” mean? Bro, I’m new to this, so cut the acronyms.
Also can’t any axe be used as a throwing weapon with a Giant Barbarian? I know it’s something I said I was trying to avoid but you’re acting like it’s just across the board not possible without a specific named weapon or home brew.
AFAIK = As Far As I Know - it's a relatively common acronym for all online conversation, not DnD specific. No need to get snippy with the person trying to help you

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
Mechanically, by RAW, it’s tough to pull off with the options and restrictions you have. You could try to find an artificer with a returning weapon infusion (I think it has a different name, to get it to come back to you. And you could maybe talk to your DM about just flavoring it as comically large. Use all the stats for a hand axe or whatever, but just say it looks really big.

I want to make a Kobald character that carries around a comically large great axe and throws it at enemies before it automatically returns to him.
It’s a stupid gimmick, but what are my options?
I’ve looked into Path of the Giant Barbarian but there’s 2 problems:
1. I play Barb too often…
2. If he grows larger then the difference in the size of him and his weapon would no longer be comical…
