I do not know if this has been answered previously, but I came across an situation where a player was using a Centaur character and wanted to charge an opponent with a lance or spear.
I know that under the Centaur race features that if they charge they can use as a bonus action attack with their hooves for 1d6+3 damage, but is there guidance for damage if charging with a lance or spear (pole weapon). In this situation, I gave the player an additional 1D6 of damage for a successful charge on top of the weapon damage. I also, stated that they can use either this or the use of hooves, but not both.
Please let me know what you think and/or an alternative rule for this situation.
By RAW, a centaur PC does not get added benefit from charging at a creature beyond what you described. (As the saying goes, rules do only what they say.) Unless they have the charger fest, of course.
I would be very hesitant to give them any bonus for it. The various races/species are designed with a package of abilities to keep them relatively equal in power. Adding in a bonus to any one of them disrupts that power balance. What you’re doing here is effectively giving them part of a feat for free (a weaker version of an already weak feat, yes, but still that’s what’s happening.)
So, if this player wants to start charging for extra damage, I’d suggest they take the charger feat.

While I agree in principle, I do not think a fairy or custom lineage is relatively equal in power to a 2014 PHB dragonborn. Having said that Centaur is a pretty good race / species so should not be buffed.
As I stated, I only allowed either a bonus action of hoof attack (1d6+3) OR the additional 1d6, not both. I understand that there is a danger in unbalancing the race.
Again, thanks for the response.

Exactly, I would recommend the Charger Feat.
