Can't find where this is specified... In the new (2025) Monster Manual, a Specter's Life Drain action states "If the target is a creature, its Hit Point maximum decreases by an amount equal to the damage taken." How long does that last? Can anything remedy it, e.g. Cure/Restoration spell?

It looks like it's permanent until a Greater Restoration removes the effect.
Also applies to Wraiths and Vampires, possibly others.

If your hit point maximum was reduced, it is restored to normal as part of a long rest.
Ah! I was surprised that they took that out of the ability description. That explains it.
