My player had a question about his familiar, can he look through the familiar's eyes while in combat to receive their bonuses of vision for an owl or something.
While your familiar is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically. Additionally, as an action, you can see through your familiar's eyes and hear what it hears until the start of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that the familiar has.
Of course as a DM you could waive that if you wish.
The most important thing to remember is that, while you tap into your Familiar's senses, you lose your own. I don't think that's going to provide much in the way of bonuses during combat.
I used the ability once for an NPC. While tied up, gagged and blinded; Action to swap vision, Bonus Action to subtle cast Misty Step since vision of the destination is required.

The spell description says it uses the same rules and options as the Find Familiar spell but goes on to say "Familiars summoned by this spell can telepathically communicate with you and share their visual or auditory senses while they are within 1 mile of you."
Would this require an action, or can they just share their senses?

I would rule that it just changes the range of the sharing, not the other requirements.

Not so much an answer to your question, but it seems strange that you could get the visual senses of dozens of creatures at once and be able to make sense of that in the same amount of time as it would take to understand what you see through one creature's senses. It takes time for the brain to decode the chemical signals related to light for us to see with out own eyes. Seeing through 50 eyes at once?? That would probably give me a headache.
RAW is yes, you can see what is sees and how it sees or hears, but the double-edged sword is you lose access to your senses while you do. So if you're certain you can do it safely, but can use it for various things and creative solutions like mentioned above.

The real sadness is the flock version of the spell isn't a ritual so you cannot abuse it for hours everyday unless you truly cast it.
"Familiars summoned by this spell can telepathically communicate with you"
so literally give them some order for what to look for and they'll ping you themself it's a more powerfull but shorter vertion of find familiar of course there is some perks for those that are not chainlock just keep in mind their intelligence score / wisdom
also it's ******* magic don't try to make sence of it now with chemical in the brain and thing
as for the question about misty step the area where your character can teleport would be 30 feet around itself you could use your familiar to climb a fence or fly and look down for you to be able to teleport behind said fence but only if you want to use your action to see trough your familiar eyes

It is possible to use your familiar's senses like this, but it is an action to do so, making it unlikely to be worthwhile.
Not only is it an Action to do so - but an Action to do so every single round they want to use it.

Now that's good thinking.
Well, if your familiar is invisible, of course you can see through them! That's the point of invisibility! :P
I'm curious about people's opinions on the Flock of Familiars spell.

"Not all those who wander are lost"
I would rule that it just changes the range of the sharing, not the other requirements.

Well if your player is a Warlock with the Pact of The chain master with the voice of the Chain Master invocation, it wouldn't cost an action anymore.
