Why would you take the revenant Blade feat if when you equip the weapon without the feat you get the same bonuses minus the +1 to Dex or Str? Is this a mistake on how things work in D&D beyond or you would take it if it's a different weapon or is there a difference between double scimitar and a revenant blade?
Revenant Double-Bladed Scimitar is a separate weapon because it has different properties from a normal Double-Bladed Scimitar. The Finesse property is only present on the Revenant version. I believe this is just due to the fact that a feat can't influence a weapon type that way, so they created an easy work around since this is only 1 feat effecting only 1 weapon type.
Essentially, you shouldn't be allowed to choose the Revenant variation of the Double-Bladed Scimitar unless you have the feat since the Revenant version doesn't technically exist. It only gains the finesse property when you use the weapon since your character is so skilled with it. For instance should you give the weapon to another PC they would have a normal Double-Bladed Scimitar.
You aren't supposed to equip the weapon without the feat. Because the feat changes the weapon's properties and they don't have modifiers for that (yet), they made the item as a work around.
