I am new to dnd,and am makeing a wizard (yeah,i know noobs should stick to monks or rogues, but i dont care). What was i saying? oh yeah! l am makeing a wizard, and noticed that they had "ritual" spells and "prepared" spells. am i correct in thinking that a "ritual" spell can just be used from my book, rather then needing to prepare it for the day and or expend a spell slot?
(my only knowledge about wizards and their spells is from watching caleb widogast)
EDIT:new players really should read the free stuff here ,like "basic rules"before posting such easily answered questions. the stuff you learn is amazing lol.
You are correct, the Wizard version of Ritual Casting does not require the spell be prepared, only that the Wizard have learned it and copied it into their book. But note that by casting it as a Ritual, it will take longer than the normal casting (add 10 minutes). You also cannot upcast the spell to a higher level, though to my knowledge there are only a small handful of Ritual spells that have any benefit to that.
