[edit] It's a class feature. It is only usable by Barbarians with the Battlerager subclass, but a DM may lift the restriction of needing to be a Dwarf.
You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
If you wanted to house rule something, I would say it grants a +1 to any attempt to defend against a grapple and does a set 1d4 damage when you successfully grapple someone or someone else fails to grapple you.

but why only battlerager dwarf, this is the only restriction other than attunement

Did you follow the link I posted? It's literally a class feature, not an item that's available for anyone to pick up. It exists as an item in the database because DDB doesn't have the capability to make the feature work without an item to be equipped on the character sheet.
It's exactly the same as the Revenant Blade feat and the Revenant Double-Bladed Scimitar. It exists because the system requires it, but it's invalid for anyone to use it without the feat.
Here's the detailed info:
Path of the Battlerager
Known as Kuldjargh (literally “axe idiot”) in Dwarvish, battleragers are dwarf followers of the gods of war and take the Path of the Battlerager. They specialize in wearing bulky, spiked armor and throwing themselves into combat, striking with their body itself and giving themselves over to the fury of battle.
Restriction: Dwarves Only
Only dwarves can follow the Path of the Battlerager. The battlerager fills a particular niche in dwarven society and culture.
Your DM can lift this restriction to better suit the campaign. The restriction exists for the Forgotten Realms. It might not apply to your DM’s setting or your DM’s version of the Realms.
Battlerager Armor
When you choose this path at 3rd level, you gain the ability to use spiked armor (see the “Spiked Armor” sidebar) as a weapon.
While you are wearing spiked armor and are raging, you can use a bonus action to make one melee weapon attack with your armor spikes against a target within 5 feet of you. If the attack hits, the spikes deal 1d4 piercing damage. You use your Strength modifier for the attack and damage rolls.
Additionally, when you use the Attack action to grapple a creature, the target takes 3 piercing damage if your grapple check succeeds.
Your DM can lift the requirement of being a Dwarf, but not the requirement of being a Battlerager Barbarian.

I noticed that the formatting for the armor spike attack has it labeled as a melee attack not a melee weapon attack like it should. Not a huge deal but it affects the chrome extension I use. Beyond20 has a rage feature where it automatically adds the rage bonus to your damage rolls. This should work for the armor spike attack but it doesnt due to the afformentioned formatting error. You can check the wording in the battlerager subclass where it describes the armor spike attack as a weapon attack, not just a melee attack. I hope someone sees this and patches it in the next update.

Sadly beyond20 and DnDbeyond are not the same folks as I know it. That might be something to bring up here in the feedback forums if its with dndbeyond and if its an issue with beyond20 then you might wish to poke them

hi, i'm wondering how spiked armor works. it says nothing about damage in the tab, can anyone clear that up for me?
It doesn't say anything in the item tab because the item is restricted (by default) to Dwarven Battlerager Barbarians.

Oh, okay. I see how it works now

I disagree - DMs can lift any requirements they like!
Spiked Armour is hardly game-breaking.
