OK,so l have this idea for a human who wants to become immortal, but wants to earn it,so they become a hombrew druid. one of their goals is to become a elf, cause they have crazy long lifespans (or l could use a different homebrew vampire race, but l think that is going a bit far,but l am game if the dm is). The question is,other then a wish,is there any way to change your race permanently? l know that spells like polymorph and alter self exist (this druid has those) but they aren't forever, and if l am reading it right, neither is true poly, cause it can be dispelled.
So,other then a wish spell (or a hags curse\other DM controlled power or homebrew spell),is there a way to have a permanent race change,or do l have to settle for true poly,or hope we run across a wizard or magic item willing to wish me into a elf? (not a fiend, fey or djinn though,l'm not stupid)
So,is there a RAW way to do it? if not,l guess l will hope the party has a wizard to cast wish,or better yet,Widogast"s Transmogrification
Reincarnate - but it's a crap-shoot. You could become anything. Short of having a tonne of gold (for the 1,000g material component) and getting your party to kill you over and over and bring you back - Wish is really the only truly permanent way. True Polymorph is a temporary contender - it's technically permanent - but it can be dispelled.
It's worth noting - as long as your DM is aware that this is something you want - they could totally make a quest and storyline for it to happen (just like Mercer did with Widogast's Transmogrification). They don't need to follow the rules like players do.

All true. (And let's be honest,if the dm allows the character with THAT subclass,it's not a stretch to allow this)
With Wish, a use in this manner would cause the stress (unless it is used to cast Reincarnate), so you have a chance of it only working once (or a few times). Other uses of wish are also limited (ring of 3 wishes, etc). Reincarnate though has no limit other than the 10 days or less rule and it can meaningfully extend your life (new adult body, regardless of your characters current age, no restrictions on death by old age). So if you are truly wanting a long term multi-use option, that's your best bet.
