Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Cat’s Claws
You can use your claws to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
After I read all this I came to a final understanding:
Natural Weapons are both but the user have to say what is going to happen... what I mean the player has to decide if the attack is now unarmed for the unarmed benefits, or is it a weapon attack for the weapon benefits.
Specially with the new DnD 2024 Weapon Mastery in mind... but in the end: whats does the DM say?
I would say unarmed is sadly boring and weak... but as a Barbarian or Monk, being a Tabaxi, Lizard or Minotaur come on thats ducking cool! Specialy with the view feats for unarmed (like tavern brawler) and the unarmed fighting style, grapple as bonus action and free hits every turn.
The Babarian need the tattoo so the unarmed strikes are magical or the subclass with the mutations. Likewise the inki tendrils for one dayli 15 ft range attack with the unarmed strike.
The dmg is never going over 1d8 per attack + some str bonus or something but its fun!!!
Same for the smites as a Paladin, it's damn cool: "the Tabaxi Paladins claw burn with radiant fire while she strikes with the force of her righteous oath" with the fighting style its 1d8 + str + smite spell slot lvl. With lvl 5, extra attack and bonus action second claw, this are 3 attacks and all the spell slots are gone. The Paladin killed something with intense force... and than can't do much more like a dual wielding fighter same lvl xD

AFAIK all species that have been updated follow the same pattern and I would expect that monsters in the new MM next year will be the same.
