Currently trying out a new background for a new to me class. I am reading through this background and choosing which build business I wish to be in for the guild.
What I am not understanding is; The difference between smith and armorer? Can't smiths craft armor? I want to be able to make armor, weapons, and misc things. But, this difference is confusing. I do not see why a smith could not make armor?
i suppose its just story and doesn't matter for the game. I think back in the day, most towns had a smith for horse shoes, nails, plows, axes, hammers, work-a-day stuff. Armorers focused on weapons & armor...probably way better paid and only common in big cities/castles. One could probably make the full spectrum of products, but as with any crafting, its all about making a specific product manymany times to become good at it. So sure, smiths could make a suit of armor, but the finest are made by armorers.
I think Heath is generally right about the difference, but the better option is probably to talk with your DM. Make sure they agree with you that the one you pick can do what you want.
Hello all,
Currently trying out a new background for a new to me class. I am reading through this background and choosing which build business I wish to be in for the guild.

Thanks in advance for assistance.

Its all flavor text anyway (no mechanical benefit or restriction). If you say your background is weapons and armor, no one will argue.
Thanks everyone
