For AL games, the DMs are required to adhere to the rules stated. The DMs are not allowed to deviate from the rules. Those DMs say otherwise shouldn't run AL games. And a player simply asking the DM to adhere to the rule isnt wrong when the DM is wrong. DM isnt always right when they fail to adhere to the AL rules. When they are wrong, they should accept it and they should not blame the players for pointing out that they are wrong. I simply hate DMs who keep telling me that DMs are always right even though they are wrong. And DMs do not follow the following fundamental rule is definitely cheating because they are not allowed to make rules up when the rules arent ambiguous or vague. For example, a line is a line not a cone.
"THE RULES OF THE GAME
Adventurers League play uses fifth edition Dungeons and Dragons. You can issue rulings to your table when the rules of the game are ambiguous or vague, but you must otherwise adhere to the rules as they are provided in the core rulebooks, and can’t change them or make up your own; “house-rules” aren’t permitted for use. "
I am so glad that I have finally taken the time to go through every rule in AL and I am able to find this. It shows I am right all along. DMs are not allowed to deviate from the rules stated.
Outside AL games, you probably right but I think it is better to explain the ruling logically than simply say this is how it is without any explanation. People dont like to be ruled without reasons, and if people kill kings and queens for that, DM doing it simply asking for trouble.
In AL games, DMs are not allowed to deviate from the AL rules. Too many times DMs say that they use AL rules because they want to limit players using all books (this doesnt apply anymore) and then they do not follow AL rules requiring them not deviate from the written rules and that probably breaks the game.
Sorry my game is AL game and hence the DM is told off for failing to follow the AL rules and if he does not agree he is not allowed to DM in AL games anymore. If you accept to play the game according to the rules, it binds DM as well as players. Just cant have one rule for DM and one rule for players. This makes the game unbalanced and thats not good for anyone.
If that is the case, it is no longer a rules discussion and a new thread should be started a more appropriate subforum, probably general discussion
